New Tiger Woods Wii commercial starring Tiger

schuelma

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

I'm not a marketing guy, but to me this is a great commercial that really shows off the potential of games like Tiger Woods (in terms of appealing to general audiences, i.e Dad's who love golf).

if the game is half good im gonna buy it..

wii golf was great but way too short and im tired of the same courses over and over again...

I'm really surprised with the way EA is running away with Wii support. Didn't really see that coming.

if EA doesn't screw this game up with the controls, this could potentially be a system seller title.

According to NGamer's review, the controls are broken.

Not that the potential non-gamer will know that before they buy the game.

EGM rated it 7.5/8/6.5

Pretty good scores overall.

Biggest gripe they have is the lack of a power meter for putting but they generally feel future versions are only gonna get better and better

the general response to wii golf was that the controls are broken..

which was not true at all.. at least for me...

I like that there's no meter, you know how far a 100% swing will go, so you just have to gauge it well from there.

That commercial seems almost too good.

I played Super Swing Golf and cried my eyes out. My awful golf skills translated too realistically into that game.

Wii Golf I'm fairly good at, on the other hand.

That timing just looked so tight between the game and the actual motion.

Still, no 1-to-1 controls no sale. Unless somebody could explain to me what is the awesome thing which is being gained by ditching the 1-to-1.

Almost everyone actually sucks at golf.

Wow, that is a fantastic commercial. But am I right to assume that the game's swing mechanics are not as good as that?

Yea.

:lol

He certainly has considerable mainstream popularity. A very effective spokesman for almost any product. Good job Nintendo and EA.

Guess you are right. But I just cannot get excited about the controls they come up with.

In one of the dev interviews, the guy mentioned that tiger woods is first and foremost a game and not simulator. Thats why u have the shaking of the wii remote to induce spin and stuff like that.

Maybe they tested out a super realistic swing motion and people didn't like it.

I'll reserve judgment about the controls until we get some impressions from gafers. Ssx blur turned out to be an awesome game despite some of the lame reviews out there.

It's good to see EA pushing their games on Wii like this. Great commercial, hope the game will be succesfull for EA.

Very effective commercial. The part showing him walking into the living room with the sandwich is the most effective part for me and will definitely grab the Wii Sports crowd.

It has EA, it has Tiger & it has waggle.

Now if only the graphics surpassed XBOX quality like Wii games are supposed to.

With all the weird Wii reviews lately, I would recommend you to play the game and take others comments with a grain of salt. A Demo Channel would help a lot.

Hot damn! Now THAT is how you do a Wii commercial, the kind of thing that emphasizes the draw of the controller and what uses it has.

I'm still trying to pick up the pieces of my fractured mind, but is this really EA?

Don't forget, EA likes money. As long as the Wii keeps selling this fast their support will only get better. They supported the PS2 for the same reason.

Also, their Wii attention gives me hope for a great Harry Potter game. If they make it a Zelda style adventure with a new story and wand casting gestures, it will be a blockbuster. also some 6 DOF quittich(sp?)

yeah it would. without a blockbuster around the way, I'm left waiting for the sure titles.

I remember reading somewhere that their will be wand casting gestures.

It will probably depend on the reviewer..hands on impressions have been mostly positive and EGM gave it good scores..so we'll see.

the SD card support is great and all

but can it support something like 8 GB SDcards through firmware update

or external HDD support (they have USB ports so)

i think there is a piracy problem.. but a demochannel would be sooo nice

If Nintendo can get real NFL players to be seen on a commercial holding the Wii remote in their hands while making a throwing motion, chalk up a lot more sales, too.

As far as the controls in this game go, I hear Super Swing Golf's is better.

Why not? They're the biggest bandwagon jumpers out there. They saw the success Ubisoft was having and decided to jump on board.

Together with the Red Steel ad, this is the type of advertisement which will help sell the Wii even if people don't actually buy the advertised games in question, because in order to show the gameplay, they have to show how the wiimote is used in innovative (non-button-using) ways, which will attract interest from casual "non-gamers" (and non-console gamers).

what is ubi doing anyway

after Raving rabbids and red steel they are focusing on ports... and as far as ports go

godfather seems to be much more interesting then PoP RS

They are releasing Driver (and Blazing Angels which will probably take a while).

Bu that said, they sort of run out of obvious ports (and even not so obvious ones, like PoP).

They've only got a couple notable ports coming out in the next handful of months. I'm expecting news on a Red Steel 2 this year.

Ubis port craze was bevause they wanted to give nintendo alot of support fast. the ports could be done by very small teams very fast while their larger teams work on new games.

Not every port has sucked but its a situation of if you already had it on the GC or whatever dont buy it again.

it already is, my dad is waiting for Tiger to come and invite him to buy a Wii. And my dad has been a console-hater since day 1. Nintendo is messing with my mind.
It's kinda like realizing ur parents are having sex.

Unfortunately, Nintendo is not feeling pressure to do anything this complicated - with the internal memory constraint, it will be pretty hard (not impossible, but hard) to have demos on Wii.

I really wish some other company was bitten by the Ubi port bug. Like, say, Sega. Sega has a lot of stuff which would make for nice sweet easy ports (Virtua Tennis, Virtua Volley) while Ubi's portfolio is not that well suited for Wii. Except for Far Cry. which they f-k up.

Really good. I'm suprised EA has put some good effort in their Wii games unlike another certain developer. *cough* Ubisoft *cough*
