• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Next gen 1st party is looking really good.

Its looking good for both consoles.
You forgot Astrobot lol.

And no point putting up projects especially since Ninja theory hasnt even shown gameplay for Hellblade 2. Project Mara might be years away

I can't quite put my finger on it, but my perspective and propaganda o-meters are spiking.

No, he's technically right.

Housemarque and Lucid are not owned by Sony.
Thus this makes them a 2nd party developer making a Sony funded IP.
Like Fromsoft making the original Demon's Souls for the PS3.

The games are still first party. Doesn't matter who was paid to make them

I dont care who makes the games. I only care about who owns the IP. Microsoft owns the Flight Simulator IP. Does Sony own the IP to Returnal?

Publishers always own the rights unless they expressively give them up to the developer or licence it out to others.
That's why Bungie couldn't keep Halo, Demon's Souls is Playstation only and Konami can suck a bag of dicks.

Man, I remember those days. Target renders and fake captures. But people blamed this "downgrade" on SE going multi-platform and having to compromise to avoid comparison. By then, it'd been a little too late with the first screenshot being the expectation. That's just how folks were (and still are now apparently).

For Xbox Series X, I have 6 out of the 9 pictured games on my list.
- Avowed, Everwild, Fable, Halo Infinite, Hellblade 2 and State of Decay 3

For PlayStation 5, I have 3 out of the 6 pictured games on my list.
- Horizon 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider Man: Miles Morales

That's 9 games just based on the pictures alone. I also have Crossfire X (campaign), Gears Tactics, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Second Extinction and The Ascent for Xbox Series X and Returnal from Housemarque for PlayStation 5.

15 games total excluding multi-platform games and of course, games that haven't been announced yet. Based on my games list for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, im already at 35 games which is literally 1/3rd of the amount of games I completed for the PlayStation 4/Xbox One/Switch generation.

NEXT GEN is going to be amazing and I wish it was November already!!!

1st party game developed by a 2nd party studio. That's why I said technically he's correct.
Unless someone was specifically asking about IP or Studio and clarifys which the fuck they mean, both are true. A 1st party property made by a non first party studio.
Niantic aren't a first party Nintendo studio and yet they develop a 1st party Nintendo franchise.

Crazy how people are making purchase decisions based around games that only showed CGI.

My decision was based on halo, and it just looked really rough and uninspired. I was likely getting a ps5 either way. I'll likely just upgrade my PC and play all the xbox games on the cheap.

Also VR. That's the only gaming experience I've had that truly felt next level, and for xbox not to do it with that power feels like a waste. Forza, Avowed, so many games that would work well with the tech

If you are pushing stuff like Project Mara you are really reaching.
Then you don't even list proper games like Returnal and Astro's Playroom.
I noticed a lot of Sony's AA titles seems to be conveniently left off certain lists, but Xbox smaller titles are always counted, curious.

The OP lists Sackboy and Demon's Souls which would also fit under that category, so either way it's inconsistent.

So there's probably where the confusion stems from then.
1st party studios and 1st party franchises are not the same thing.
So if the question is what are the other 1st party studios like Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica are doing? Well... That's what everybody wants to know.

The variety of games that we have coming going into this gen is hands down better than any previous gen. Sony's 1st party looks strong as always but most of all its really good to see that Microsoft's 1st party is also looking strong which in the past has not been the case. Looking foward to seeing these next events in August to see what else we get. :messenger_beaming:

Why are there so few PS5 games on that graphic? Why include games Microsoft didn't even mention in their big showcase but omit a lot of games Sony did mention in their big showcase?

Yeah, Xbox seems to have announced a bunch of stuff that hasn't even really even started development.

Halo Infinite will be launching with the Series X, whether it's ready or not.

Everwild hasn't even decided what type of game it will be. How do you even announce a game before knowing that?

Hellblade 2 will be made in Unreal Engine 5. But, UE5 won't even be available until later in 2021.

Fable didn't show anything, but a likely completely unrelated video of a frog eating a fairy. I'm not convinced that game has even started production.

Avowed didn't show much more than that and expecting that by holiday 2022 seems presumptuous.

Even Forza that was an annualized franchise apparently didn't have gameplay ready to show.

The show felt forced, like they knew they had to show something, regardless if things were ready to show or not.

The Medium looks good, but now it sounds like that's just a timed exclusive which will come to PS5. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that
Hellblade 2, Avowed and Fable are the three biggies on the Xbox side, but they're all XSX only which means they're far off, plus there's virtually no game footage. They are all late 2022, Fable probably 2023.

It's so strange Hellblade is a major pillar franchise now. The original was good, but it was basically an indie walking sim with a bit of rudimentary combat thrown in. I have to wonder if people are putting way too much hope in it.

Yeah I don't rate Ninja Theory that highly after Heavenly Sword and the first Hellblade game, but it's been getting a lot of hype recently which is why I listed it.

I actually think CrossFire X was the best looking game they showed, but that's not first-party and is a timed exclusive.

Isn't CrossFire X already out in at least Beta form? Or am I thinking of something else?

Wait Crossfire X is a timed exclusive?

Why would anybody call a game 1st party if they do not know for sure that the game is 1st party? If you do not know then just wait until it is officially announced by Sony or the developers.

Very well, then. Let's put this dog and pony show to bed once and for all.

With nine titles announced tonight, this is the largest lineup of first-party games PlayStation has ever showcased heading into a new platform launch.

You're welcome.

LMAO, you too late to the party. This question has already been answered.

Xbox still has the better line up. 1 PS5 game is $60 and you still have to pay for PS Plus. We get 4 months of Game Pass Ultimate for that price. Thats Game Pass PC, Game Pass Xbox and Xbox Live all for $60. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Your opinion.

And Gamepass...well, Value is inherent to the buyer. It's subjective.

I don't find any of Xbox's exclusives worthwhile to buy the system, therefore, them being on Gamepass is moot. I'd rather pay 60 bucks and get a game like The Last of Us P2 or Ghost of Tsushima God of War or Spider-Man et al,

And to be clear: PlayStation Now has added all those titles at times on that platform. So, Sony has followed Microsoft's lead in that regard.

But, that being said, the proof is in the pudding with Sony delivering quality titles that people are willing to pay a premium for upfront.

You're totally entitled to choosing Xbox's lineup. You're also totally entitled to think Xbox has a superior lineup because you jive more with what they're showing.

I truly hope they knock it our of the park this generation with their "exclusives". I'd love to have a reason to buy their machine.

We got a Release date for Demon'S Souls?
I only saw the intro on the conference and a few images after, nothing about a release date.

Edit : Given Polyphony History as well i'm surprised you are putting it in 2021.
It was Bluepoint's statement, that they are aiming to set graphical benchmark on the start of nextgen, that's why we are expecting DS Remake on launch or short after it.
And what Polyphony history? Aside from GT5 that took 6 years, all their other games had devcycle of 2-4 years.
