Next gen Gundam VS in development, possible global release :O

Excited for whatever it is!

Some Bamco guys were checking out the EXVS tournament at Evo so hopefully we get some kind of global release. They seemed pretty happy.

So this most likely means we are getting a roster reset correct? I really hope they try to keep it as similar to the arcade experience as possible while providing good single players options for others as well.

I also wouldn't be opposed to a model like SFV where we keep the same disc but get updates as they are released. Still bummed that consoles missed out on Maxi Boost and are most likely missing out on Maxi Boost ON as well.

Because they don't want to piss off the arcade owners. I don't understand either as the current set up until recently was that the arcade always had the newest system stuff and the console would be based on the previous arcade version's system.

Bamco was accused from arcade owners heavily when first EXVS hit PS3, with top-of-the-line netcode that literally killed many arcades. From that point Bamco had to ensure that arcade will have always have one gen newer than console version every time when they make presentation slides.

With that being said, the guy is clearly referring to something new, not EXVS. I personally prefer this for make the franchise more "International" because currently EXVS is no different from fighting game (entry barrier is now way too high).

It's going to be like Overwatch, but with Gundams.
I'll take that. And also Smash Bros but with Gundams, and DOTA but with Gundams, and maybe a side order of Gundam Musou 4 and a Battle Assault reboot. Maybe even a full remake of Gundam vs Zeta Gundam with ZZ and CCA.

Give me ****ing Gundam, is what I'm trying to get at here. Gundam Breaker 3 has somehow only increased my desire for more Gundam, rather than satiate it.

It's funny you mention this, because I feel the same way. I've always felt that a strategy RPG with Gundam would be awesome (no, not SRW with Gundam in it, but a pure Gundam only RPG)!

Gihrens Greed was something like that. Never played it though. Honestly not even sure what kind of strategy game it is.

I loved the hell out of this game.

EDIT: Ah crap, like Sum of Zero said... well there is the G Generation series and a new one is coming out soon that I believe is going to be localized(?): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk1xi_8567Q

But yeah, they clearly say 5th gen is not EXVS, so no more Sthesia waifus at least. It will still be a VS game, but to what degree?

See, call me crazy, but I actually almost hope things become a bit slower and more complex.

I was actually a HUGE fan of the general pacing of the early Gundam Vs titles (like the GOAT Gundam vs Zeta Gundam, despite its flaws). So I like a lot of the quality of life changes in the new Vs games, I like the greater melee depth, the manual block, the boost dash, etc. But it almost feels like the GvG games are running on fast-forward when compared to the actual fights in the series, and nothing feels like it has any weight. The Gundams feel more like anime characters in a licensed fighter than actual giant robots.

So, yeah, I hope they keep most of the increased complexity and general improvements to combat, but I hope that it runs a touch slower in general to better match the pacing of most fights in the actual show. That's one way that the older Vs games really nailed to me.

EDIT: Of course, if they want to keep arcade owners happy, they can keep EXVS running as an arcade fighter and make their console game something a bit more oriented around a home console release.

iirc Gihren's greed was like a very strategic version of SRW or Gundam Gen Wars(whatever the SRW equivalent is called which i also believe is being translated into english for the chinese version) and was super super Text heavy which i wish i could play (you could go into What IF scenarios with people living , joining other factions and etc.)

Yep, and that system was really good as it drove people to the arcades if they wanted to play the newest suits.

It would be cool if they could throw one out on XB1 for the American fans, but I get it. I assumed the reason the franchise is traditionally PS exclusive was more cultural than moneyhat. Gundam isn't quite as bad as Dragon Quest in terms of getting the overwhelming majority of its consumer enthusiasm from native Japan, but it's not far removed, at least afaik.

I mean here in the US, I'm not sure it ever reached the same level of success as Wing did on Toonami, but I could be wrong. Did any TV network even touch the franchise again after CN broadcast 08th MS and the original series? It was like total darkness until internet TV became a thing, with Crunchyroll etc.

The EXVS series continuing with MB On is still a consistent top earner in small cabinet arcades in Japan as well. Was #1 in June over Tekken 7: http://www.am-j.co.jp/

That old ass Gundam pod game is still bringing in dough every month too.

The latest Gundam series, Iron Blooded Orphans, is running dubbed on Toonami right now on top of new blu-ray releases of older Gundam series in the states.

That, and 00 aired on Syfy a couple years ago.

They say that, and yet I wouldn't be surprised if/when a few months after the console port, the arcade version gets an exclusive update.

Speaking of which, I'm enjoying my time with MBON. V2 with all the packs (finally) is amazing.

You know, Gundam VS still is the way to go, but I wouldn't mind an Exteel-like Gundam game. Though I guess this kinda exists with MSGO...

It's going to be like Overwatch, but with Gundams.
I kinda wanna see what that would look like.
It already existed. It was SD Gundam Online. It was a TPS where you could play a huge list of grunts along with almost every other Gundam unit in existence, and without the arbitrary bullshit like having to press a button to activate Akatsuki's beam reflection or putting a timer on using V2AB.

There's already an English version of Gundam Breaker 3, and it's very well translated. You'd think it was a proper NA release. Pull the trigger, buy it. You won't be disappointed.

I second this - Breaker 3 is so good (PS4 version). Not the deepest combat, but it's not super shallow either. It's a shame it got no official U.S. release.

Well, 08th MS would've aired in 2001-2002? After that they aired 0083, then G Gundam in 2003 or so. Then a few years later we saw SEED on Toonami weekends, followed by 00 a couple years later on Sci-Fi.

You're right though, it's definitely never been the success it is in Japan aside from G. I think Build Fighters could've done wonders if they brought it over, but oh well.

Nice.

I enjoyed Vs Force for what it was, but if they honestly thought they could satisfy fans of the Vs series with that as their only offering, they were severely mistaken.

Hopefully this means the next one will be coming to consoles as well as arcade.

Need to see the game in action and what sort of gameplay techniques the game has. Would have just taken maxi boost tbh but as long as age 2, 3 and fx are in ill buy
