I think the best thing that we could do this offseason is trade a 2nd round pick for Kevin Kolb, and try and get Mark Ingram in the first round.
Trading a 2nd for Kolb would be the worst thing any quarterback-needy team could do. I can't believe this post came from a Dolphins fan too. Did you guys learn nothing from AJ Feely?

Whatever good Flynn did he made me forget all of it by his horrid clock mismanagement in the last minute of the game.
That was more on the coaches. When you take that timeout, you're supposed to give the QB a few plays to run because you know you don't have any more timeouts.

Also, Flynn kept signaling 4th down back to the sidelines by flashing the sign. I think McCarthy forgot it was 4th down. :lol

Of course, if Flynn was more seasoned, maybe he would have thought of a qb sneak, then spike, but what do you expect? :\

He'll never show it on the field. The most demonstrative I've seen him was in New Orleans last year when he was ripping Bradshaw a new one for totally missing a blitz pickup.
Yesterday when Manningham (or Hagan) missed being the hot read, Eli was jumping up and down and swung his fist angrily like he was going to call whoever the WR was out, then was like "aw forget it". What stops him from being angry? doesn't he watch how his brother destroys Offensive lineman and Donald Brown?

24/37 250 3 td's?

I'll take that from a game manager. Plus, he can only play the role they gave him. He looked damn impressive on some of his throws. The roll out hitting Jones for the first on 3rd and 8 was a great throw. He showed pro arm strength and for the most part read the defenses well. His struggles were clearly a result of nerves (understandable) and talent.

Obviously this is hyperbolic because it was only one game, but if you're telling me you'd rather have Grad'ski/Campbell than Flynn I am going to call you a liar.

The last minute wasn't Flynn's fault. McCarthy didn't get a play in because he thought they got the first and expected Flynn to spike the ball. That's why Flynn was yelling and gesturing at the sidelines.
The Packers were running the ball all over the Pats, they have a ton of talent on offense, and the line was giving him time to throw. He played well but lets not go crowing this kid just yet. Even after one game I would take him over Campbell but I am not sure about Flynn and Grabasski. Neither one is great but Grabass has proven himself to be a backup caliber qb in this league. Flynn is still an unknown.

The same thing that stops him from deflowering his wife of 2 years. Or I should the same lack of something...

Everytime I read something about this incident I cant help but chuckle. How in the hell do you get a penalty when two guys on the same team are fighting?:lol
it wasn't for fighting it was because the refs thought cushing took his helmet off, he didn't it was knocked off, which in fact should not have been a penalty.

What was the deal with Jason Babin being in the victory formation for the last play? Was that really what I think it was?
Didn't see that, i had long turned the TV off and went and looked for some Bald Eagles on my way to softball game.

Not surprising a few weeks ago when the Texans shut out the Titans Babin was noted trying to egg the crowd on when he got a sack, and doing other things. John McClain noted that it seemed like he thought the fans here remembered him, but he pointed out that not only was he a failure here but he's had one good season in the NFL which is his current one.

Rorschach said:
Flynn really wasn't all that great. All hyperbole aside, he made 1 great throw and then he managed the game for the most part. It was impressive for a young QB getting his first start, but he wasn't that good.
Yeah I agree with this. The Packers recievers and rbs were very good after the catch last night, I think Flynn's numbers don't tell the whole story.

He showed great composure and confidence though...........until that last play.

The interception for a touchdown is bound to happen, a lot of screwy things happened on that play.

He needs to work on his tackling though.

He's no Todd Sauerbrun.

I was gonna say his composure was impressive, but it disappeared when he was blitzed from the weakside. :(

I'm curious to see what he can do if they open up the playbook for him. McCarthy should bench Rodgers -- McNabb style!

There was no Titan player near the two when the flag was thrown. I know the whole story but I am still amazed by the whole situation.

QB controversy in GB!

Send Rodgers home to SF. Right the wrongs of the past for FMT.

Goals:

1. No injuries
2. Joe Webb has less than four turnovers
3. Close loss

I have a strong feeling the Bears will not put up any fight today. Vikings will get points off of Jay Cutler turnovers (I predict 2 fumbles) and the Bears offense wont put up anything.

Why does Rodgers have to be punished to make up for for the imagined past wrongs of FMT?

That doesn't seem fair at all to Rodgers.

Flynn's staying in Green Bay as our backup.
We have an 18-game season on the horizon people.

Anyway Flynn did a great job, play calling didn't help at times.
Needed short 3-step drops: slants and the like.

But McCarthy has forgotten it's one of most potent weapons.

For anyone interested in what Eli said during his team address:

http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/giantsblog/manning_calls_players_only_meeting_Qk5UhGoYCOcibl0sEBS6gI

“I wanted to say a few words,’’ Manning explained. “I went up to coach [Tom Coughlin] and asked if I could beat him to the punch a little bit and address the team before he came in.’’

Coughlin was happy to oblige and Manning’s message was clear and concise.

“We’re going to write the ending to this story, no one else,’’ Manning said. “I don’t want to make a big deal of it’’ and indeed he didn’t even want his talk to go public. The Giants, despite their historic and epic collapse, will gain an NFC wild card playoff berth if they are able to beat the Packers this Sunday in Green Bay.

“We don’t have time to moan, it’s not the time right now to start going in the tank or start slacking off or being in a bad mood,’’ Manning said. “Now’s the time we got to be excited, you kind of have to look at the bright side of things, you got to be optimistic that hey, we got a great opportunity to make the playoffs. We got to go in, play a big game in Green Bay, we just got to take care of our business. We’re going to be on the one to decide whether we make the playoffs and what happens. It’s only us. We don’t need help from anybody else.’’

Justin Tuck, who along with Manning and Chase Blackburn is a team tri-captains, said he and Manning have addressed the team before but this is the first time he ever recalled Manning doing it by himself.

“He just wanted to make sure we were all on the same page, make sure when we come out here on Wednesday we hold our heads high and fight to go up to Green Bay and get a win,” Tuck said. “He wasn’t loud and rah-rah-ing but you could just tell by the look on his face he was definitely into what he was doing. He was definitely serious. Everything he said was coming from the heart and very meaningful to him. It helped. I don’t know if it was needed but it helped, especially coming from him, because he is our captain. We have three captains but he’s the top dog. To hear him step in front of the group, bring us all close together it really resonated.’’

The tone was calm but also passionate.

“He was probably as vocal as he’s ever been and I think everybody appreciated what he did,’’ center Shaun O’Hara said. “Eli doesn’t get emotional. He’s very straight-forward, it was a good opportunity for all of us to get on the game page. I thought it was a great standup opportunity for him to take this team to the next level.’’

Tuck said Eli received good reviews.

“That’s the first time I’ve seen it from him,’’ Tuck said. “He actually got some cheers and hand claps because it was so out of character for him.”

Sometimes I feel people don't watch the same game that I did. How could anyone blame the Packers playcalling on offense or defense last night? The difference in the game was a 400 pound asshole running back a kickoff 60+ yards and the horrible TAINT, neither was the result of bad playcalling (now if you would have said bad tackling I would have agreed with you).

I thought the Packers coaches did an amazing job of calling the game on offense and defense. Without their star qb the Packers controlled most of the game on both sides of the ball. It was the 3 or 4 mistakes they made that kept the Pats in the game and eventually gave them the win.

Transcript from Kubiak press conference:
Arian forced out with back spasms?

No, ankle. Know nothing about the back spasms.

Code about not angling for another job?

What are you talking about?

Bill Cowher said he likes the Texans.

Hes a damn good coach. Dont know what your asking me.

Isnt there a code?

I dont know. I have no idea.

Houston media finally calling out Kubiak!! Nice guy, terrible coach. Enjoy nyour new OC Denver fans!

I agree with you. Outside of not realizing it was 4th down and kicking the field goal from the 2, I think McCarthy did a damn good job yesterday. I mean, those are two MASSIVE fails but isolated.

if flynn starts against the giants, the giants will blow out the packers. i've already seen this story many times in my nfl life:

1. backup is going to start
2. opposing team knows nothing about the backup, plays it easy
3. backup has a really good game
4. starts again and gets his shit pushed in because teams are prepared for him

but thats fine, guys like matt flynn and kevin kolb are awesome! maybe the eagles and packers can get a couple first rounders for them!!! seems realistic!

We got a second rounder for AJ Feely. Seahawks got a first rounder for Rick Meier way back when. its not like this kinda thing is unheard of

You sound so bitter. I am sorry that Kolb is so much better then small hands. I am not sure why you are taking it so personally. You should be happy, at least the 9'ers found out how bad Alex is this yeaar, before they re-signed him for big money.

in the history of the nfl they aren't unheard of, but it's not happening these days. i think people finally see the eagles qb's as system qb's. mcnabb, feely, detmer, kolb, vick, garcia, etc etc etc. they all had some type of success in andy reids offense, and they all sucked or will suck elsewhere (except jgar had success in san fran before that)

i would maybe consider a 6th or 7th rounder for kolb, nothing else. and at that point he is probably more valuable for the eagles to keep as insurance for another year. but then he will walk and some idiot team will pay him

what do i have to be bitter about? i told you kolb was garbage at the beginning of the season and i was proven right (as were all of your eagle buddies who were pining for vick to start even before the season).

and i blame our coaching staff much more than i blame any player on our team for how this season turned out. unfortunately we might make the playoffs and delay securing our new coach by a week :/

:lol

troy smith has 3 wins in backup duty this year, including one of the best statistical games from a qb since steve young! and that is with one of the worst coaching staffs in the history of the league!

OMFG GUYS GET HIM A CONTRACT EXTENSION! OR MAYBE A TEAM LIKE THE CARDINALS WILL GIVE US A FIRST ROUND PICK!

my point isn't to hate, even though i am a hater. my point is that there are a lot of naive people who think the NFL is like madden and there is a rating that doesn't change on guys. there are other factors to Joey Backup succeeding besides Joey Backup. and those factors that helped him succeed perhaps will not be there if he were traded to a new team ;)

Ez, niners will make the playoffs while the packers won't :p.

Clearly this means Troy Smith and Alex Smith are better than Rodgers!

FMT, we traded Craig Nall to the Bills for christ sakes. Trades in the NFL aren't governed by a FMT/Rors Nazi squad. They are governed by idiots who pay top dollar for flashes in the pan.

(Plus, I don't want to trade Flynn)

How has he shown anyone that he is garbage this year? Player of the week twice, in his first 6 career starts. He torched the Falcons D, and they have a pretty good D. He has shown that he caan put up numbers, and win games in the NFL. In basically 3 games this year, he passed for over 1000yds, and 6 TD's. Every NFL analyst that I have heard talk about him has said how in demand he will be in the off season.

they are certainly healthier than 'ol scrambled eggs rodgers!

and i am actually rooting for the packers because i want them to come into san fran for that wildcard game..... alex vs. erron! then we see who is the first to reach a playoff victory!

Doesn't matter dude! Haven't you heard, it's strictly about talent!

Meanwhile good coaches keep plugging in shit and get results.

I'm pretty sure Nall was never traded for, was a 3rd string backup UFA. Then again Kurt Warner was one injury away from leading the Packers to glory!
