NFL Week 8 |OT| Take A Chill Pill

With Vick you have to win. With Foles you have to prove you made a good decidion taking Vick out AND win. If Foles loses two games, is benched and Vick comes back and the Iggles are barely eliminated from the playoffs? Ha.

Yep. I figure Lurie basically will let Reid sweat but won't touch his job this season, because either he'll self-destruct and wreck the season on his own, or they'll pull out a magical second-half and figure it out. The latter seems more likely, and acting now might have a better shot of saving the team's playoff chances, but if he wants Reid to sink or swim this is the best way.

Of course to the fans this doesn't mean anything because all they're going to see is Reid making panic moves and generally trying to do whatever it takes to prove the Eagles are worse than the Cowboys. (It's a shame those two teams couldn't play each other earlier this season, would be an epic failure bowl)

Well Research In Motion is a Canadian company right? Someone has to support them, might as well be Canadians!

There's no point. Supporting RIM is like supporting canadian bacon. We both know there are better alternatives

If Reid believes his job is at the breaking point, then yes, playing Foles makes sense as his home-run chance. The Saints are the perfect chance (maybe the only chance?) on the schedule for a rookie QB to magically put up 400+ yards of offense in his first start, and if the Eagles destroy the Saints as a result, it's "Foles-Future" and Reid saves his job.

The alarming, "why make this move?" part is that the Eagles are still in relatively good shape thanks to their early-season wins. They're 3-4, and Vick has a very good chance of putting up huge numbers against the Saints. If Reid believes the playoffs is a better route to keeping his job than exploring Foles as a QB, this is a huge mistake and the Saints will probably make him pay.

This is basically on the money. If I was an Eagles fan I wouldn't be asking for a new QB. I'd be asking for a coach, because no matter what Foles does next week the underlying problem is still there.

You have the fans split into groups.

There are those who always want a new QB. Even when McNabb was playing amazing they wanted him gone. The back up, no matter who it is, was always better. After losing the SB they wanted McNabb gone.

Then there are those who wanted Reid gone after season 1.

And they very tiny portion of the fans who can look past just the QB and or Coach.

I loved Reid those first few seasons how he built from the lines out, slowly but surely getting better each season, bringing along McNabb and then making the playoff runs. But that Reid, that QB and team, are long gone. 8 years since the Eagles were dominant in the regular season and I always felt Reid should have been fired at least 5 seasons ago. No they waited till McNabb's contract ran out, then blamed him for all their failures, and ran him out too. Then Reid got his new franchise QB in Kolb. That lasted 1 game. Now Vick.

And it will kill me if by starting Foles he somehow saves his job only because Foles shows promise.

If Reid wants to save his job by making the playoffs he would be a fool for switching now. You have the Saints coming up. Though I don't think the Saints are as bad as their record shows, their D is terrible. Maybe even worse than the Eagles. Let Vick play against them. After the Saints the Eagles have 2 games against the Cowboys, 2 against the Redskins, 1 against the Giants, Bucs, Bengals, and Panthers. The tougher part of their schedule is gone. So if they are to make a run it has to be Vick and within the NFC East.

The secret of this season is that aside from the turnovers Vick is doing quite well. He has good production with that offense. Is that offense something that Reid thinks he can replicate with Foles at QB? They're playing the Saints, so I think the answer for next week is a good "probably" but will that suffice long term?

With Vick you have to win. With Foles you have to prove you made a good decidion taking Vick out AND win. If Foles loses two games, is benched and Vick comes back and the Iggles are barely eliminated from the playoffs? Ha.

Tell that to the people who only look at final stat lines. The Eagles offense has no running game and terrible OLINE. Vick is part of the problems by turning it over but their offense is ranked so low NOT because they can't move the ball.

Their problem is that they move the ball quite well between the 20s but then in the redzone can't punch it in. They end up settling for FGs or turning it over. And that has been a problem since McNabb's final two years here. It is not something new with Vick.

They have small WRs who in the redzone are neutralized. No run game or very little attempt at running, which is laughable with McCoy in the lineup. And then Vick's turnovers. The play calling is terrible as well. Think back to the Steelers game. Vick moved the offense perfectly down to the 2 yard line early in the game. First and goal and Reid calls a QB draw out of shotgun when he knows Vick has ball security issues. WHY? Just hand it off to McCoy. Its always trying to be too clever and cute.

I honestly think things have gotten so bad in that locker room and FO, that Foles simply showing promise won't save his job. Lurie made the ultimatum a week after his son died. He didn't even care almost. He said not making the playoffs is not acceptable. There are also reports that Lurie was never on board with hiring Juan but he let Reid make the decisions because Lurie never interferes with football decisions. So Reid has been the one calling the shots on all these odd ball moves with the wide 9, Juan, and now letting go of Juan.

Lurie was actually quoted as saying he didn't think it would work out and it hasn't. Pretty sure if at the end of this season they don't make the playoffs, he will fire Reid whether Foles shows promise or not.

Still amazed Eskin is reporting they would bench Vick because he made two audible mistakes. The D is the bigger problem right now. If the Saints put up 40 on this D, they think Foles can match wits with Brees?

I've got one prepared, I'll get it to you sometime this afternoon/evening.

K cool. Go easy. And PM me the avatar.

Fans just want change. Most aren't rational in what to change and the QB is the most effective target because for better or worse - Vick is the face of the franchise right now. I think it was said pretty clearly a page or two back - this could very well be the end of the Andy Reid era in Philly and what you're seeing is desperation...

Fans also want to run the ball more and want Reid gone.

You can't just give in. If Reid is truly listening to the fans and basing his decisions his ass should be fired this minute.

You can't give in. Even if I disagree with him 100% on his play calling an philosophy, you have to fight if you believe your way is right. Go down swinging with Vick. And then leave.

So stupid to bench Vick at this point. In the back of Reid's mind he has to know he is gone at the end of the season, sans a Super Bowl win, so why not ride Vick till the end of the year? Nick Foles could be complete garbage for all we know. What if he goes 1 TD 9 INT's in his first three games? What do you do then?

If I'm Buffalo I offer a 4th or 5th rounder to get Vick before the trade deadline Thursday.

Might be part of Reid's master plan, have Foles put up numbers against a historically awful D and make everyone think benching Vick was a good move.
He did the same thing with Kolb.

I mean yankee still thinks he is the best qb in the league in large part to his piling up garbage time yards against the Saints. And that was when the Saints were decent. Just think of what Reid could do against this years Saints defense! He might get 3 more years in Philly.

Fun fact of the day: the Dolphins have allowed less points than any other AFC team so far this year.

... 26 more than Chicago and San Fran, though.

This isn't meant as an insult because I do think they have a solid defense, but has any offense besides the Texans, who dropped 30) they have played averaged more than like 17 ppg?

First off, the 30 points the Texans scored were almost entirely due to offensive turnovers setting them up with great field position. Second, it was the first game of the season and the secondary has been improving every game since then. Third, you are exactly right. I mean, the Dolphins have played the Jets twice already --- talk about a handicap!

They've also already had their bye which would could factor in to some degree.

If you are talking about total points allowed then yeah, the bye week might possibly be a factor lol

Hey Packers, since the Panthers have no GM, I'm offering up DeAngello Williams for Greg Jennings straight up. You can even have Steve Smith for the rest of this season! Takers?

Weeden really is an MVP candidate. If it wasn't for that one game against the Eagles, it would be Weeden, not RGIII, with those endorsement deals. Weeden would be the new face of the NFL.
:lol let's not kid ourselves nothing was gonna stop the hype train that was RG3, dude had like 5 commercials out before he even stepped onto a NFL field. Pretty sure not even the chosen one , number one pick Andrew Luck has as many endorsement deals. Heck when was the last Luck commercial you saw on Tv?!

I know. I was just joking. I can't imagine Weeden getting any endorsement deals. He might be able to get into a few Cialis commercials if his play keeps up.

He's been on TV a lot the last few days. Not sure why though

Mortensen reported that Ted Thompson has, in the past, offered "multiple packages" for Stephen Jackson. Packages of what? I mean GB needs to upgrade that position, but Jackson? He had a cryptic tweet this morning, and my guess is they told him they were trading him no matter what

First in the league in PPG, though! That offense is scary.

You're way too nice of a Dolphins fan. I still remember Squish the Fish!

I'm really happy at how balanced the Pats are offensively. They actually do some play action under center instead of this: "oh the pats have a guy lined up in the backfield, they're going to run" idiocy that's happened the years between Dillon and now.

My wife and her entire family are Patriots fans so I am well practiced in the art of maintaining peace. Until gameday of course, when I just have to try and avoid them.

At the end of the day I just respect the Patriots as a team. I mean, I really don't like them, and I probably would even say I hate them, but they've got talent.

It's important for us to remember that we always have a common bond that is a hatred of the Jets.
