You're like a greasy used car salesman. I can see it now:

I like you.Clockblockers said:2 Blackhawks in a row for cover athletes, well when you have the best why would you even look at the rest.![]()
Not really. 2k10's stadiums were incredible looking. No reason EA can't get off their asses and make the arenas in NHL 11 look better.Clockblockers said:As for the earlier comments on stadiums, I think we're almost at graphical peak for this generation, we'll need another generation for all the sports games to make the next bug step forward on graphics. For now refining the new physics system will work.
I told myself when I bought NHL 10 that I wouldn't buy NHL 11 unless the Hawks win the Stanley Cup. Will be the best $60 spent ever
I tell myself every year that I might not buy next year's game. Then 4 months before the game comes out, I have it paid off in advance.
Fix the goalies!
In '10 their moving around is just ridiculous. Goalie sliding from post to post while in butterfly position?
Indeed. I love playing goalie but they need a LOT of work.
In the old world of NHL games, under different producers (pre-Xbox 360/PS3) the philosophy was to put big back of the box features into the game, things that people would get excited about. However, most of the time those were gimmicks that they'd end up scrapping after a year or two because they weren't part of an authentic experience. Under the current team, they don't care about putting in gimmicks or big back of the box features. They want to get things right. Thats why these guys consider 200 gameplay refinements as a big feature instead of something like breakaway cam being a big feature (and that includes fixing exploits from the previous year and they continue to patch the game through the year as well-- with the previous producers, they'd have exploits in there for years before they were even address if even at all). NHL 09 to 10 was just pure refinements, thats something that not many other sports games are comfortable in doing. With 10 to 11 there is a bigger leap though, that real-time physics engine for collisions will start making the game feel a little more dynamic. That being said, the whole engine isn't fully real-time yet, it will take them 2 more years to do it according to the creative director. But thats why I love these guys. They have a vision of what to do over the next 3-4 years at all times and have a clear goal of where they want to take the game. Previous to this generation, the NHL team would never think that far ahead and were living off a year to year basis.Takao said:This series is becoming the king of useless refinements. I get what you're saying, but I'd rather have them fix the broken stuff before putting in things like broken sticks. When my goalie doesnt freeze on a toe drag or my defensemen don't stand still while my opponent attempts his 500th cross crease pass, then they can worry about things like broken sticks.infinityBCRT said:In the old world of NHL games, under different producers (pre-Xbox 360/PS3) the philosophy was to put big back of the box features into the game, things that people would get excited about. Just speaking from a technology standpoint, having broken sticks is amazing because that means they probably have the technology to do animation blending so if not this year, in future years they'll be able to fix stuff like players not moving their feet while doing certain actions (poke checking, stick lifting). And as they make more things in the game based off real-time physics, its going to start looking incredibly good. The skating in NHL 11 still doesn't look great so thats one thing we'll have to live with this year, but I think the final result a year or two out from here will be incredible if they can pull off what they are trying to do.
Also remember that they aren't going to blow their load all at E3, things are going to be revealed over the next 2 months. They haven't even talked about non-in-game features such as whats new to online and offline modes, if RFAs are in, etc.
This is why I hate EASHL right now. The only teams left do nothing but these shitty methods and don't attempt to play anything close to "real" hockey. You want high scoring, arcadey shit? Go play NBA Jam, fuckers. And if it's not some bullshit goal, it's the stupid AI goalie allowing multiple goals that an empty net would have stopped.pringles said:I'm gonna buy it just because of EASHL but there is so much that needs fixing in this series..
Hopefully the new physics works some magic with the core gameplay. Most of all something needs to happen with the basic concept of how goals are scored, since 90% of goals feel cheap or retarded in NHL10. There are a couple of ways to consistantly score goals, which makes games just a battle of who can get into these situations where a cheap goal can be scored the most times.
The trailer didn't give me a lot of confidence that goalies are improved, but they better be.

That game looks pretty fun. I might have to pick that up with NHL 11 on 360.shagg_187 said:Has anyone seen gameplay video of NHL Slapshot for Wii? That game is no where near NHL 11 but the gameplay changes are usually the same.
In the gameplay video, you see that referees aren't just some static sonsofbitches and that they actually lean/jump on the board when players are close to him. Looks awesome for a Wii title!
Let me start off by saying this, EA Sports is doing a good job on the gameplay front; the added features (i.e. physics, faceoffs) are great additions to the game, but I still would like to point out that the presentation is lacking, and has lacked since NHL 07.
We've seen written details, we've seen screenshots, and just recently, trailers and gameplay. The presentation still lacks what a true NHL game should contain.
1) How many people are on the ice at any given time in the NHL? If you answered 12, you are wrong, as in fact, there are up to 16 individuals on the ice during a regulation NHL match. 5 players on the home team, and one home team goaltender (6), 5 away team players and away team goaltender (6), and 4 officials, 2 referees and 2 linesmen (4) for a total of 16. So in fact, this game doesn't really represent an NHL regulation match.
2) How is it that in every single arena (all 30 in the game), teams always enter and exit by the same areas around the rink? Each arena is built unique from the next and each arena has their own entrance/exits from the ice. So, the arenas aren't even authentic, the only thing that differentiates them is shabby arena modeling (only unique features like additional stands or vip boxes are noticeable) where all the arenas have the exact same number of rows for each tier of seats. The sad part about this is that for the most part, these objects are static. Which helps modelers a ton since they only have to worry about how it looks from one perspective. Yet, in almost 4 years of this franchise on current gen platforms, this hasn't been addressed? I'll laugh if the Penguins new arena won't properly be done for NHL 11, but it wouldn't surprise me given the current track record. I also have to mention that jumbotrons are wrong for a LOT of teams, I'll just mention one for now, the Montreal Canadiens jumbotron at the bell centre, yes the 40 foot one, is not even in the game, funny considering the fact EA had this whole "Canadiens Centennial" theme going on a year ago but somehow forgot to bring in their brand new jumbotron, oh and it still wasn't there the following year (in the game... wait isn't it supposed to be EA SPORTS: It's in the Game?).
3) Goalie animations are still horrible, does nobody at EA Sports play the position? Too often does the goalie end up on his rear in this game, in most cases, it's when there is a cross ice pass, the goalie stretched and does the split for nothing. It's called a T-push or even a butterfly slide, puts you into position to make a save without having to fall back on your behind and totally taking yourself out of the play. Also, hugging the post, nobody stands up with both pads stacked up against the post anymore, the new technique used by almost all the goaltenders (maybe except Nabokov) is the loading technique, look it up it's not hard to find. Glove up position is now also dominant amongst goaltenders in the NHL, yet goalie animations in NHL still use the glove down position (yes we've seen enough videos to determine this).
4) How is it that players that have been in the league for years still don't have proper faces? You see a player, his team picture pops up, and the guy on ice looks nothing like him, it's a shame really, like woh the hell is this guy? Oh wait, it's supposed to be "xxxx" but looks like "yyyy". For years players keep the wrong faces, and somehow it changes from year to year but not to the right face. I understand not being able to model every single player in the league, but man, some teams barely have 50% of the guys with proper faces... wait, maybe 25% is more accurate.
5) PA announcer is horrible, not only does he mispronounce a lot of player names, he has no emotion. How does a home goal's announcement seem just as boring as an away goal announcement? No "Goal scored by number 87... SIDNEYYYYYYYY CROSBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY" it's just "goal scored by #87 sidney crosby".
These are 5 of the major presentation issues, there are a lot more that need to be looked at, it's really surprising how this has gone by for the last 4 years despite charging full retail price for the game consumers get a game that is only slightly enhanced (from one perspective).
Hope the development team takes a look at this.
Thanks for reading.
Well said. I got a chuckle out of your "does anybody at EA even play the position?" line. David Littman, who is one of the head producers, was a goalie in the NHL for Buffalo and Tampa Bay at one point. :lolexpy said:Just posted this on their forum...

Marvie_3 said:They're borderline retarded. What else do you want?
Seperate difficulties aren't needed. They just need to improve the AI. They'd be less robotic and wouldn't need the miracle saves anymore. They also wouldn't make the stupid mistakes they do because of the shitty AI.Zombie James said:Separate goaltender difficulty would be nice (ie. Players on the ice = All-Star, Goaltenders = Pro). My main problem is that I can set the difficulty and make myself a set of sliders that'll give me a perfect challenge on the ice, but the goaltenders become a pain in the ass to score against. They're all lighting quick and make completely impossible saves. Constantly. The goaltender ratings literally mean nothing. If I turn down the difficulty the goaltenders let in more realistic goals, but then the other players on the ice become glorified pylons.
It's nice that they're adding realistic touches like broken sticks and actual physics into the game, but if the goaltenders are still their same inhuman, robotic selves, then all that means nothing.
Whoa...Rammer is hella tall. :lolshagg_187 said:Interview + Gameplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56gHWTPyhpg
We'd get scored on anyway. What difference does it make? :lolSnakeswithLasers said:Broken sticks and dropped sticks are going to be a fucking bane.
I'm calling it now: The Banhammers will be consistently scored on because of sticks lying on the ice, and pucks ricocheting in.
Info was leaked a few days ago so I can't say I'm surprised. :lolSquare Triangle said:So Toews is the cover boy for NHL 11. Two back to back Hawks covers? I love Toews but can't say I agree with this. =/
