NHL February |OT| FIRE ALL THE THINGS

The coach is always an easy scapegoat. He also hasn't had much success here (if you call this season a success), the special teams have been terrible for his whole tenure except for a couple of months this season. It used to be the coach, the GM, and Kessel. Kessel and Burke have silenced the critics a bit, but they still get it at times. The people that get paid the most, the captain, the starting goalie, GM, and coach on any losing night get downgraded. On winning nights the show can get mind numbingly optimistic.

----------

I know people complain about Connolly, Komisarek, Lombardi and Armstrong but they really are the Leafs best options right now. Their biggest negative are their cap hits which are all gone after next season (and Komisarek in two years).

Connolly (Colborne: would rather him play big minutes in the AHL, Boyce: good grinder but probably best on the 4th line and has been hurt)
Lombardi (Frattin: good player but AHL time will benefit him the best, he has played well down there. Kadri: ditto)
Armstrong has been hurt and that's his biggest issue.
Komisarek is in the press box. Aulie and Holzer should be playing.

Leafs can be shut down pretty easily (not versatile at all offensively) and these three guys give the best opportunity for offensive support. And of course there are injuries and you need guys that can come in and play and then go back down to the AHL.

Really nervous about the game tonight. Detroit's gotta up their game and make history with a 20-game home streak. But Philly's gonna want to put a stop to that. Should be a good one.

Haha, Detroit has only had 4 1st round picks since 2001 with the lowest being the 19th pick.
I knew we never had high picks but I was actually shocked to see that we've only had 4 pick at all in the 1st round the last 10 years.

And I don't think Detroit would pick anyone except Brendan Smith in the 1st round again if they had a do-over.

Would be interesting to know which teams acquired the other 6 picks and which players they drafted.
Washington drafted Mike Green in 2004 with Detroit's pick. Not sure how that makes me feel.

Didn't see any other notables except Jeff Tambellini.

I know a lot of the time when we've traded away 1st round picks we've done it to have two 2nd rounders or something. Having a late 20's pick is like a 2nd rounder anyway so whatevs.

2001 - Chicago - Adam Munro
2002 - Buffalo - Daniel Paille
2003 - LA Kings - Jeff Tambellini
2004 - Washington - Mike Green
2006 - Phoenix - Chris Summers
2009 - Tampa Bay - Carter Ashton
2011 - Ottawa - Matt Puempel

Corey Perry was taken after Tambellini. 2003 draft was unreal.

Yes!

Who does Perry think he is, Viktor Stalberg?

On the gorgeous charts? Not even close.

(I got Stalberg in my online NHL HUT game thingy last night.. Thought of you straight away).

I just want a win. We were 8 points from 8th, picked up a point from Detroit and now we're back 11 points. Stupid coyotes and their 5 game winning streak...

Eugh, fuck those undeserving motherfuckers. Move to Quebec/Seattle already.

I was drunk as fuck all weekend at a bachelor party, but I did get to see the Habs dummy the Leafs.

lololol

And DAT ELLER GOAL unf unf unf unf

Does anyone have a good stream to watch the Det-Phi game tonight? Kinda interested in seeing if Detroit gets their 20th...

They gave that to Bertuzzi? Didn't look like he was even close to touching that.

EDIT - Oh, looks like they just fixed the goal and gave it back to Kronwall.
