Background: hardcore stylish action games like dmc, bayo, etc are not my thing.
Will I be able to still enjoy nier? Or to put it in other words: how deep it goes into bayo territory?
Also: any word of a ps5 enhanced edition that will cost moneys or this is as its gonna be?
Sorry forgot to really answer your question:
I'm not really much of an action game master - but I was able to over-level and finish the game pretty easily - other than beginning stage, where everything's thrown at you at once and I was little overwhelmed by the scope and variety of the gameplay... but once I got used to the whole thing, and figured out the rhythm of the play - when to take a break, when to grind, when to explore, and when to focus on the main story... things became much more enjoyable that I rarely died.
My main pattern was basically weak-weak-weak-strong combo followed or cut by evade/dash button. You get some nice projectile attacks with your weapon, and support from your pod system - so if I felt threatened - I just backed away and blasted them with bullets and wave attacks. As long as you level up your character - it's not much of an issue.
I did have more trouble adapting to the twin stick shoot-em-up with bullet hell elements. As I suck at Geometry Wars, I would tighten up... you get hit 3 times and you die... so I was overly nervous... and press right stick in - which would lock up - and die from a panic. LOL.... but then again, while tough, didn't feel like they were excessively hard either.
So yeah. Think of this of much less of an action game, but more of an JRPG in scale than others like DMC/Bayo. It does have its variety in combo, but never really had to use them much.
