Ninja Theory are very good at face modeling

As per the marvel talk - HULK ultimate destruction begs to differ. Makes the deadpool game look like farmville.

As per NT - Every single game they've made this generation has at first seemed to have a high level of polish and the mechanics kick in and it's a generic, boring, walk in the park of an experience.

DMC and Heavenly Sword have points of merit to them. things you can single out and say "Well.. the writing and the acting and their attitude towards the franchise and their battle/balance/power mechanics are all completely fucked BUT - this level was incredibly pretty and this bad guy was honestly fucking crazy AND hilarious and their cut scenes are pretty good..."

But Enslaved is a pile of shit. A sometimes pretty and always laughably underwhelming pile of shit. The opinions of those who defend that ridiculous drivel should be summarily dismissed.

Old school Dante for the win. 1 and 3 shit all over everything NT have ever done and ... after their next commercial failure.. i expect them to quietly dissolve as their incredible artists and mo-cap engineers go on to actual teams with other talented like minded individuals.

Someone most probably did not play Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising. Possibly also Wonderful 101? Though W101 is next gen lol.

Bayo runs it a very very close second, but Rising isn't in the same league as either. PC goggles give DMC the edge as at 100+FPS it's like melting butter and Helix Mod is a dioramagasm.

This thread needs some Pigsy. If someone could make a gif of his running animation, that would make my day. It's so fucking funny.

Playing DmC on the PC at 250+FPS on max was what made me really enjoy the game. The PC port was one of the best I have seen. It made excellent use of UE3. Though even with that, I would still top those three games above DmC. Now, when MGRR releases on PC, is it possible that you will change your mind?

I actually recommend most people to try DmC on PC at 60+ FPS before judging the game. Makes a whole lot of difference. I hated the game when I played the demos, but the impression was better when I played the game on PC.

They would be fine if they didn't remove the goddamn lock on lol.
Improvise my good man!

Ask yourself this question. If Hideaki Itsuno didn't step in to salvage DmC's gameplay do you guys really think you would be praising DmC?

I'm admitedly a bit of a action game noob, as I only really got into them recently with MGR, DmC, and Bayonetta but I think DmC is great. A little too linear (my short time so far with the DMC1 on DMC HD Collection intrigues me with it's semi-Resident Evil world and feel, and yes I know it was originally RE4) but still a pretty well executed story that made me sympathize a lot with Dante. I'll be honest, his brash attitude allowed to live vicariously through him as I am not nearly so outspoken emotionally, so I got to really liking his character. So far Dante seems to like that real human element, he's still cool in his own right, but I've never heard of him described as anything but a cool anime character.

Gameplay wise I can definitely tell that Bayonetta has more depth, but not as much as I think most people make it out to be. Platinum has a lot of other great games (I also bought Vanquish recently) and I loved MGR, but that game was actually sadly missing complexity DmC provided. I know the game was a salvage operation for MGS:Rising but still, the level design was pretty boring in that game, mostly I loved it for its bosses, music, and 60fps Raiden without awkward feel.

I played the game on PC so maybe that's a big factor, but I think general gameplay, story, and level design in DmC was better than MGR. Bayonetta has more depth, and a equal quality story for the tone of the game, but is not so much more god tier than people make it out to be IMO. I just felt like I was pulling off more cool and diverse moves in DmC compared to MGR which is definitely in part due to the lack of real weapon options. I never felt it was all too easy either, for reference I played DmC on Nephilim difficulty and MGR on Hard first time through.

However, MGR did have better bosses as did Bayonetta, DmC's were a little too "set-piecey" and easy.

I really hope Ninja Theory gets another chance to really explore the world they've created, in the mean time I'll be appreciating the classics. BTW should I bother with DMC4, I know it and DMC2 are the most divisive of the old games, with DMC2 being a far worse game.

Edit: Red and Blue invincible enemy's suck though, a lot. I wish there was a mod to turn them off. They should just let the player experiment with the weapons not force them into any situation. I'm just now going through Vergil's Downfall (I think I got it on sale for $2.49 very recently) and it's nice not having them.

Who cares about what-ifs like that? For all we know, Capcom could have made it worse. The game is good, why the theories to take credit away from NT?

They are the best in faces animation. Better than Quantic Dream and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better then Naughty Dog.

There's nothing like Kai.

Well, as I always believed, NT did a decent job, although the combat was, for me, kind of lacking and the PR just drove me away from this game.

The absolute stupidity in this thread regarding Ninja Theory is straight up embarrassing. I don't know how anyone can see their games they've made this gen and call it trash.

I consider their games trash. I also, for reference, consider God of War trash. This is because I have a very particular and specific set of criteria for Character Action Games that these two groups of games do not at all meet.

These games are all style and no substance, and substance is what I'm into video games for. My favorite games are ones that I could conceivably take to a desert island and never get bored of because I'm always finding ways to get better and more efficient at beating them.

I'm going to note that this is my very first response in this topic (and very possibly my last)-- I'm not here to stir up shit, I'm not here to protest the death of DMC or anything like that. I'm simply stepping in to inform you that sometimes people have different opinions and that's okay.

Having experience with good action games to use as a reference helps.

I'm sure if someone were entirely new to the action game genre or thought games like DMC3/4, Bayonetta, and Ninja Gaiden were too deep and hard to master, they'd love DmC.

It's like comparing a steak from Outback Steakhouse to a steak from an actual quality steakhouse. Technically they're both steaks. Hell, back when I didn't know anything about steaks, I thought Outback was pretty decent.

Now? Nah.

Basically agreed. Out of the games they have made, only one had good style and somewhat good substance - Heavenly sword; the other two were made out of already existing stories, and forgive for being a cynic here, but one of NT's selling points is to create games that are beautiful and have original stories (or great stories).

Consider this:

As of DmC? They're better than Team Ninja and Sony SM.

Still better than Noctis Uchiha

Sssshhhhhh!!!! Keep the voice down!

I agree completely, I went into DmC with really low expectations and left with a game that not only shits all over DMC4, but all the most recent action games that are NOT Platinum.

That is very good for a western Dev, here's hoping for a DmC sequel.

The story, dialogue, character design and PR handling of DmC was trash. The gameplay was passable. Why do you think it's stupid for people to have opinions?

You're saying that like DMC and DMC3 had amazing writing and story, they have nothing like that, the core of these games are the Gameplay and nothing else, and Gameplay is pretty decent in DmC

Ninja Theory are great when it comes to visuals but DmC and Heavenly Sword are mediocre games, while Enslaved is just a bad game. Plus, all of their games have framrate issues, and I cannot tolerate bad framerate in a game all about action.

. . .And what does that have to do with who I quoted? Go back and read it again.

You're fishing for a DMC fight.

Story dialogue and character design was actually really good. Production value high, fighting system fun. I'm not about to get into anime weeaboo arguments with people who think the DMC franchise has been slighted by the change. We played the same game, and you're wrong.

Boom.

The subtitles in the DmC pics just reminded me of how abhorrently bad the writing in that game was.

"Fuck you!"

"Fuck YOU!"

Gah.

I find it cute that people still reference that one scene again and again as some kind of evidence that Ninja Theory can't write good dialogue. Never mind the fact that there's an entire game in addition to that one scene, and the fact that the scene is question is obviously (to anyone who played the game, anyway) a deliberately immature back-and-forth between a foul-mouthed demon and an intentionally aggravating Dante.

But no, Ninja Theory clearly can't write because two lines of dialogue taken out-of-context say so.

Please, tell me more about how my opinion that DmC sucks is wrong

Too bad they suck at everything else.

Real talk in the first reply.

They have an amazing art department, but their writing and gameplay is very mediocre to bad. They should restructure to become a CGI/art-licensing house and do art assets for other titles.

You're saying DmC story and writing are trash, okay, trash compared to what?, why would you expect amazing story and writing in a franchise where Those things have never been important, or good for that matter?

Anyway, keep the hate train, I'm outta' here, got some Pokemanz to catch :p

Their faces are very good for the most part but some of the animations need work. DmC Dante has such a freakish smile.

This opinion is unsustainable if you care about deep gameplay. DMC4 is the most mechanically complex action game ever, bar none. In the hands of an expert player, nothing comes close.

I think he was taking DmC on it's own merits.

This is pathetic.

You can pretend like NT didn't try to sell DmC on it's story if you want, I'm certainly not gonna be the guy who links the Shakespearean video. The game, as a whole, was shit - in my opinion, if you hadn't caught on.

yeah, well, I don't have hundreds of hours to master that super deep system, I really liked DMC4, but come on, whi has the time to master crazy combos like those on youtube, many of us have a wife, kids, work, Uni, etc. I can't waste my time like I was 14, 15 years old again.

I appreciate the effort tho, for those who have the time to master this stuff, for me Bayonetta offers better gameplay, deep enough and not that complicated to pull off amazing combos, but that's just me.

Fair enough. Makes sense. Bayonetta is actually my favorite action game overall, but I'll always love the classic DMC games for their exceptional combat mechanics.

Ew, God No. ND actually understand how to design good-looking male and female characters. And oh, their gameplay also 10 x more interesting. There's a good reason why Sony ditched NT like a dirty rag after that game with the red-hair sword-carrying girl.

lol @ ND characters being good-looking. Both Uncharted and TLOU have some of the most generic and uninspiring character designs and art directions this gen.

I called your comment, you know, the one about the "hate train", pathetic. It was.

Oh, of course, I compared DmC to modern (this Gen) action games (Platinum NOT included), DMC and DMC3 are fucking amazing.

I would do anything for another Blade game.

It's got everything you need.

-Good story.
-Cars/Motorcycles
-Gadgets
-Swordplay
-Guns
-Super powers
-Human and non human enemies
-possible co-op gameplay with the nightstalkers

And the way the vamps disintegrate into firey ash would look amazing with next gen particle systems.
