Ninja Theory's new post-apocalyptic title Enslaved

Holy crap. Do want. HS was awesome.

What's more awesome is that they got Alex Garland (writer of Sunshine, 28 Days Later) to write the story/dialogue.

I have no doubt I'm going to give in to this.

Heavenly Sword got too much flack. It was a very endearing and memorable experience.

That's what I meant. Aside from her hair not being nearly as long, she looks nearly identical to Nariko.

Agreed. It almost seems like they're trying to bring her along for the ride, but making it different enough so Sony doesn't come barking.

Either way, I hope Sony does something else with Heavenly Sword. The GoW team could do wonders with it.

I just got my Game Informer and I'm interested in Enslaved. I was one of the people who liked Heavenly Sword despite some of its flaws. What was great in Heavenly Sword was really enjoyable and beautiful to watch. It deserved a sequel where they could build on that foundation and fix the issues the first one had.

Kinda bummed that this is more than likely going to run on UE3. However, the recent Batman: Arkham Asylum looked amazing on said engine (as did Gears of War 2 and Mirror's Edge), so there is still hope. I enjoyed Heavenly Sword quite a bit, so I am very interested in seeing how this turns out.

Not so sure about Namco Bandai as a publisher though :/

As much as I loved Batman (first game I am going for a platinum since it's single player only) and felt the art direction was great, I am really tired of the UE3 look. That was one of my minor gripes about Batman even though I still think it was beautiful. It could have been better with a different renderer.

I think Namco Bandai won't have too much influence other than marketing so I wouldn't worry too much about that. And it's great that both HD platforms will get it.

Of all the stories they could have borrowed from they chose the monkey king. Hopefully they can do a little better with the gameplay variety, they're hiring a lot of big names for the non-gameplay stuff, I hope they spend more time on gameplay designs.

Alex Garland? Didn't expect that to ever see that name associated with a game.

Sold.

Yes it was.

Endearing because of how great the art, tech, music, VA were.

Memorable because of how shitty the combat, arenas, Puzzles and QTE were.

Seriously, i need this game to be good. I also need NT to put more thought into making the combat fun and deep.

Also, i will lose all respect for them in Monkey and Trip develop anything resembling a romantic relationship. I loved it in PoP, but i would really like to see more platonic male/female relationships.

I disagree with the gameplay complaints. At least to the extent you guys are bashing it. I really enjoyed it, and it did have variety. It wasn't perfect but it was a helluva lot better than most titles out there.

But anyway, different strokes.

just read the GI article on this. i was very pleased with HS, personally. the facial and body language in HS created a very compelling experience for me...especially with characters like kai and roach. and the gameplay was exciting and fun.

the way they were talking about refining the body language and facial expression tech, my interest in enslaved is officially piqued. hopefully the gameplay aspect shines like it should

edit: kinda tired of the "find recordings to listen to the backstory" thing but its not a deal breaker

True, though i would argue that it is one of 'most of the titles out there' for most competent combat systems.

I'm one of the people who loved Heavenly Sword. The way people talk about it sometimes you would think it was borderline unplayable. I liked the combat, yeah you can button mash if you want, by why do that, there were tons of cool combos. I also liked Nariko who was well voice acted and one of the most beautiful collection of pixels I've ever seen. I even liked the motion controls which I thought were fun. With a little practice they worked well.

I'm disappointed that Ninja Theory abandoned HS but I'm curious to see if they can live up to the high production values with this game.

Got my issue. For what it's worth, the art style seems very similar to HS (Trip, your partner, actually looks like Nariko with her hair 'up'), and the textures and lighting are better.

Should be interesting to see how it animates using the facial tech for movement now.$

The concept sounds very Ico-ish, only with robots instead of shadow creatures.

Batman: Arkham Asylum looked and ran fine.
it had this certain ugly UE3 look though. 98% of UE3 games have this bad appearance. At first glance, sure, it may look nice, but as you dig deeper it looks hideous.

Just read the GI article and this game sounds very interesting. Plus being a fan of the original Journey to the West has this thing sounding all kinds of good to me.

The screens in GI are beautiful. It's not your typical dirty post-apoc for the most part. Trees and vines have taken over the city.

Oh and never fear HS fans: their female co-op partner has long, bright red dreads and looks scarily familiar.

I've seen the GI pictures... Monkey (the main character) is a total rip-off of Raymond Bryce from Disaster: Day of Crysis.
The face is basically the same, really... We're on Shadow Complex-Nathan Drake level here.

The game seems promising though!

Excited about this game.

HS was good stuff so hopefully Ninja Theory can raise the bar with this.

I am sad there wasn't a Heavenly Sword 2.

Looked quite poor in the magazine, whereas these shots make it look terrible.
Are you talking about the graphical quality, or the style, or the game, or... what?

Looks a mish mash of too many elements that don't gel together that well. You've got a ruined cityscape that looks to be based on contemporary architecture, industrio-futuristic robots and Asian-ed up whiteys.

HS had a really cohesive artistic vision, but this just seems like they chucked everything into the pot that they thought was cool.

Doesn't look as cool as HS visually, but I am interested in how this turns out...tis a shame it runs on UE3 though. I mean it looks pretty decent, but it would have looked better on the HS engine

I'm not sure if they have the budget to carry over HS's incredible production value's but still they've shown us before they know to conveigh a story. HS's character design wasn't that hot either, but they ended up being some of the most believable and likeable characters of this generation imo. Not sure how to feel about the post apocalyptic tropical setting i'm seeing here.

This looks way way worse than HS which came out two years ago but also artistically uninspired which is even worse considering what they accomplished with their previous game on this aspect.

You have to factor in that they don't have an unlimited budget anymore to do things like hire stage and tv actors to do motion capture.
