Nintendo Badge Arcade now available in NA eShop

We finally got this!?
YESSSSSSS!
This is exactly the kind of thing I'm a huge sucker for - though I'm going to stay totally F2P.

So what was the hold up, anyway?
Wasn't the going theory that it might run afoul of some gambling laws?
Is anything missing or rephrased in our version?

As someone that spends way to much money on 3DS Themes this terrifies me.

Bring on the stickers, hope theres Splatoon and Tri Force Heroes Art! Would be great if indies could get on this too. Hopefully everything from Japan comes to NA day one.does anyone know if it does?

Almost done downloading.time to see the prices.

Seems like it's not that hard to get free plays (it probably depends on the practice board though). I've already gotten 7 badges.

This is too addicting for its own good. If you guys are able to, try out the Practice section, so you can get some free bonus plays!

you get 5 attempts daily on practice stage. from there, you can have a chance to win few real attempts

Someone beat me to this. Still, this is amazing!

Some of the badges are actually interactive and can substitute things like Settings, Stats, etc.

...But is there no way to remove the old Stats icon if I got a new one? I now have two Stats icons because of the cool Yoshi Stats badge I grabbed.

If it's like any other freemium bullshit you'll get nothing decent from those free plays.

You get 5 free tries a day.

Among the badges in the free play, there's a "secret" one that grants you actual free plays for real badges. However, the game doesn't tell you which one of the practice badges gives you the reward.

Damn it Nintendo.

There isn't a guaranteed secret one, although the blue ones (=1 play) are quite common. Rather focus on getting 10 training-badges every day.

I've gotten plenty of awesome badges from the Japanese version, it's not bullshit in that way. However someone who plays for free will not get to finish most sets. You don't get enough tries to clear some of the designs... because sometimes you might need to get badges A and B before you can even reach C and D and so on. Still, plenty of fun to be had (except for OCD folks).

So.. my wife and I can't place badges. Hit the button, the badge drawer comes down, then it goes right back up. Anyone else having this issue?

Also when I try to go to the theme shop via the Badge Arcade, the rabbit just pops up to tell me there's a promotion, and doesn't actually let me into the shop.

[Edit] Just in case no one else can get the drawer to stick, it works for me if I go to the normal home menu settings and choose "decorate with badges," it just doesn't work from the in-game shortcut.

Although it's possible on a good day!
For example if there is a free play at the beginning, then you get over 10 training badges and among those is a red one = 5 plays in one session. Badge positions also don't reset until you quit the game.

The free plays net you the same stuff as the payed plays would. You don't buy badges. It's basically a crane game, and you buy more chances to use the crane. And if the first free tries are anything to go by, it's almost impossible to not get something with your plays.

Got all the mario ones in the free first try. I also got a free '3 attempt' through the once a day practice crane. I didn't manage to get all the animal crossing ones though, I knocked a couple of them into a corner and couldn't pick up any character badges, only got the furniture.

I can definitely see this becoming an addiction for some people lol.

Oh man, this is digital crack.

This would be insane on mobile (i'm a pretty staunch handheld loyalist but this is made for mobile).

Got Isabelle so I'm happy.

I thought they game showed there's always at least one. In my case, I got a red (3 plays).

Might have changed with the recent update, I remember getting 10+ training badges in a single run, clearing the board almost twice, but not getting any bonus a couple of months ago.

This felt just like gambling because you're playing for chances, not actual content. The free plays are just bait. Sure, they put in big letters "REAL MONEY" but it doesn't really change the essence of what it is. I like the idea of having icon packs for the 3DS home menu and clamored having this since the Japanese release but after actually using the software, can't say it's for me or I support it.

This was happening to me. It eventually worked if I kept trying, but not consistently.

Hmm, when I press 'Place Badges', it takes me to my home menu screen and the badge drawer goes down fine on mine.

and have you bought 10 more plays to get into the theme shop? I think its only after you paid that you get the bonus theme.

The free plays aren't bait. I have close to 300 badges and paid around 5 times because I wanted the theme or complete a specific set.

This is dangerously addicting. I got a free 3 play during the practice and scored the yellow Game Boy Color badge, which is what I was aiming for to put on my Game Boy VC Folder. If I can't manage a free play when a NES badge comes around I'm going to be hard-pressed not to plunk down money.

The Pokemon badges are going to kill my wallet.

This is pretty fun. Threw a dollar at it and got some nice pixel Gameboy and SNES stuff, as well as some LBW themed app icons and, unfortunately, some Animal Crossing furniture when I was trying to get Isabelle.

It's really cool that you can stick these badges on your folders as labels though. A little NES Mario on my NES folder, a little pixel art Gameboy on my GB game folder, makes it look so much more slick. Can't wait for some more Nintendo console stuff for the rest of my folders and I can see myself throwing a few bucks at lots of different badge sets.

It's just too bad that 90% of what's there right now is SMB1. I don't need much of that. SMB3 would be better.

Also: make sure you do your Practice Mode runs each day. I got 3 free plays today from mine and I'm sure I can get more tomorrow.

How many people are going to complain if it shows up in the Direct?

How many people are going to complain if it shows up in the Direct?

It's very odd they didn't release this as a "and you can get it... right now!" thing during the direct but I don't think anyone should be surprised when they mention it during the stream and spend a minute or two explaining how it works.

and then reveal Pink Rabbit as a Smash Bros DLC newcomer

So by the Eshop description by using the five free practice tries a day I can turn the fake badges I collect into actual currency?

When you play the practice machine, the fake badges you get are turned around. Some of them are secretly marked, and if you nab them in the practice machine, you get free plays for any machine you want.

So for example, I used my 5 free plays on the practice Animal Crossing map it loaded up. I got some of the badges, and one of them flipped around with the red mark, granting me 3 free plays on the actual machines.

That Bunny has done it again...

Thankfully, I feel like the daily freeplays will be enough to keep me satisfied.

How do I see what the special theme offer is? I'd like to see if its something I want before I spent money.

Also should I be worried about the Gameboy and Famicom machines expiring in two days? Will they ever come back?

On the lower screen it cycles through advertising the current badges and the special theme. You've just got to watch for it.

Right now it's a Link Between Worlds theme I think.

Badges get cycled often, especially those that are not holiday/seasonal themed (which also get cycled but at certain times). No worries if you don't collect them now.

Oh my god. Gameboy and GBC stickers for my VC folders. No more single letters on the folders!!!
Truth. I just wish they had some GBA badges. All they have are OG GameBoy and Super Famicom. Even though a majority of my GBA games are SNES ports, they aren't truly SNES games.

Oh god, this is evil... I can never resist the cranes at my local Papa Gino's.
