Nintendo bleeding talent; Takashi Tezuka is retiring

This guy basically IS Nintendo along with Miyamoto. The best game director of all time.

Sad to see him go of course but he no doubt has very good reasons for leaving the company he loves so much.
I read somewhere that there's a a working culture in Japan, that companies set an age for their employees where they are advised to retire. It seems like mid 60's is the for Nintendo, as many of that age are retiring. That would mean Sakamoto, Kondo and Aonuma do not have many years left at Nintendo. That is, if what I heard is true.

Miyamoto, of course, is a exception to that rule because of his importance to the company. Whu knows when he retires, if ever.

The man with the original dev team made all the new ips back then, they were genious.

New tik tok generation cant match that.

The combo Tezuka-Miyamoto were gooses that lays the golden eggs. From the different interviews i have read here and there, i retain that they are not gamers themselves and that their game design philosophy is mostly about taking experiences from real life and making those funnier in video games. Zelda was based on Miyamoto exploration of caves and Donkey Kong (the first arcade game) was inspired by one of his quick-tempered uncle who threw stuff around. You can't pass that knowledge entirely because the life they had was from a different era (they both grew up between the Japanese economic miracle and before internet). IMHO, that Nintendo is now gone.
This is effecting every form of entertainment, unfortunatley. People who used to write books, movies, and songs had lots of real-life experience before they ever picked up a pen.

Tolkien fought in World War 1, Gene Roddenberry was a pilot in WW2, Christopher Lee was a spy; so on and so forth.

Ten Ten! All of the industry is heavily indebted to him. The architect that laid the blueprints that perfected video games and inspired everybody who came after.

So grateful to him for shaping a huge part of my childhood

Oh wow. I hope he enjoys his well earned retirement, thank you for decades of joy, for making my childhood what it was, and making so many of us so happy.

I cannot say enough kind things about him, I feel like he and his teams gave me so much.

You wish, lol. They've been mentoring and nurturing the younger generations of developers over the last decade +, with great results like Splatoon/ARMS/Echoes of Wisdom and much more (and the ongoing quality of basically all their IP, with near misses like MP4 attributed to the old guard too).

This guy directed my childhood in video games! An absolute legend who deserves to enjoy a very quiet, peaceful retirement.

Absolute legend. I'm worried about Nintendo.
No need to worry new Generation of developers are following the same path , just look the new Zeldas , DK and Marios.

If there is a company that keeps it's legacy is Nintendo

Well deserved retirement to a legend! It's not bleeding talent though but rather a guy getting some rest finally after a life of designing and producing some of the best games Nintendo ever made.

And whatever you say about Nintendo they are actually good about cultivating talent and not firing people right after a game has been made.

I think they are doing a pretty good job with transition to younger generation of producers and directors. Games are taking longer now though even with Nintendo's less reliance on graphics vs others but it is what it is.

And Harrison Ford was a... Carpenter from what I've read before he started acting.
