I'm used to it, it's not a big deal at all. The experience is still far better than with an N64 controller (Curse that crappy analog stick to hell!) since you can use the face buttons for items like in Wind Waker!

I'm not saying it's unplayable on the GameCube, as I've completed both OoT and MM on the disc, but the C-buttons are still a better method of controlling the ocarina.

I'm of the opinion that the N64 controller is the ugliest controller Nintendo has ever made.

Ugliest? Probably. It's not the best overall controller by any means, but it was great to use for the games that were actually released on it.

Updated the OP - sorry it's a bit late today.

Someone needs to actually update the thread title when Nintendo actually gives us something of value to buy. I'm tired of the weekly dissapointment digging for the press release.

Well, other than today I've always had the OP updated within minutes of the PR going live. All the new games are listed at the top of OP and the PR is archived just below.

So there's a leak about an upcoming DSiWare title from Gameloft. Should we talk about it or leave it until it's officially announced?

It's a port of the iPhone version.
Which sucks.

Yeah, but porting from mobile is pretty much the extent of Gameloft's efforts on DSiWare and WiiWare, so it's not really a surprise there.

I really wish that my Nintendo Points, or whatever they're called now, was tied to my account rather than the hardware. I loaded up 2000 points on my DSi shortly after buying it and doubt I'll be using any of those for a good long while at this rate. I could have at least purchased Super Punchout if I loaded them on to my Wii. I ended up buying Dr. Mario for the hell of it.

Can we include the DS demo downloads from the Nintendo Channel as part of this thread? Because the Knights in the Nightmare demo was the best part of this week's update.

Based on my experience with the GameCube Collector's Disc, the GameCube controller is actually a slight hindrance to the game compared to the N64 controller. Using the C-stick for the ocarina isn't exactly ideal.

Free-aiming the arrows sucks with the GCN stick, too, which is particularly irritating when trying to go for 100% completion (horseback archery, shooting gallery, etc...)

Never bothered to quadruple-dip on OoT, so I don't know how well the CC works for this.

I'm as disappointed as the next guy by recent releases (I bought Bonsai Barber and it's my last purchase), but I have to admit I'd find it mildly hilarious if the vaunted GAME 300 was a garbagey Master System game or something just because everyone seems convinced it will be something they desperately want.

Serving Up a Plate of XBLA, PSN and WiiWare Fun with Diner Dash's Sabine Duvall

Serving Up a Plate of XBLA, PSN and WiiWare Fun with Diner Dash's Sabine Duvall
By Louis Bedigian

“The online leaderboards will be tracking top players, so you’ll both have some incentive to keep the diner running; but it doesn’t take long for things to get amazingly chaotic!”

By the end of the current generation, there will be more games available for Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 than any other consoles before them. Part of this is due to the increased number of players, which opened the market to more developers. Another part comes from the creation of WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, three services that let you download hundreds of smaller, lower-cost games.

One of the games set to benefit from this service is Diner Dash. Based on the popular PC franchise, the game caters to the mainstream market console manufacturers have really been pushing for. "The digital download movement in this generation of consoles has enabled an entirely new audience to game on consoles," said Sabine Duvall, VP of Product Development. "With the immense popularity of Diner Dash and the sequels and off-shoots it’s created, we wanted to get this new audience into the crazy addictiveness that is the gameplay of Diner Dash. Throw eight-person multiplayer on top of this and the game becomes a perfect fit for the new services."

How is the Diner Dash gameplay being adjusted/upgrade for the consoles? It's clear that the graphics and gameplay perspective have changed from 2D to 3D…

Sabine Duvall: The most noticeable adjustments are upgrading Diner Dash gameplay into a more social experience. Co-op gameplay Diner Dash is here as you and a friend can take on the classic “Endless Shift” mode. It’s the single player gameplay, but tackled with a friend! As you continue to manage the diner, you’ll be able to get upgrades that will make running the diner a little easier, but at the same time add in new gameplay elements you’ll have to tend to as well. The online leaderboards will be tracking top players, so you’ll both have some incentive to keep the diner running; but it doesn’t take long for things to get amazingly chaotic!

Will we notice a distinct difference between the controls of this edition and its predecessors?

SD: Naturally, the transition from mouse and keyboard to controller will be different, but you’ll have just as much control over the action. We implemented hotkey functionality on the controller so certain buttons are mapped to specific tasks you’ll need to do in the diners. You still have full control of the character Flo with the analog sticks, but you’ll be able to breeze around your diners with ease.

What are some of the new challenges that will keep Diner Dash veterans busy?

SD: Veterans of the Diner Dash should have something to prove with these new editions. With online leaderboards, they’ll want to represent their skills on the console of their choice. The co-op and head to head gameplay will also allow them to challenge their expertise with or against others.

How are the point-and-click hotkeys being implemented, and how will they make the experience more intuitive?

SD: You’ll come to find that certain buttons on the controller will be mapped to specific tasks. For example, take the 360 version. The L trigger will instantly go to your que of customers waiting in line. The B button will guide Flo directly to bus tables. The X button takes Flo to the counter to drop an order off to the cook. These are meant to be a choice for the player to take; they can either control Flo directly, or, if the action is getting crazy, use the hotkeys to automatically put Flo on a quick set path so they can use that time to keep a look out for where their next move will be.

The gameplay is primarily timed, but will there also be a mode (perhaps for practicing) where no time limit exists?

SD: The closest thing to this is the Endless shift. As long as the customers are staying happy, you’ll be able to keep playing this mode and hone your techniques. We recommend setting it on easy so the pressure won’t be as intense!

Online multiplayer supports up to eight players. Is this a competition of who can serve the customers the fastest?

SD: There are a number of different factors that will affect the tips your character will get. Whoever has the highest tips at the end wins. Serving the customers is just one of the steps. If you can be the quickest on seating the customers, taking their order, serving their food, collecting the tips, and bussing the tables, then you’re in good shape. However, your rival can step in and do any of these tasks at any time the customer is ready, regardless of who had been serving them. You can also lose money if you’re not taking care of customers as well. Throw in a crowded restaurant, people constantly waiting in line, and upgrades for your character throughout the match, and you’ve got a pretty intense game!

Are there any other multiplayer competitions?

SD: Definitely! You can bring the competition with the head-to-head modes in the game. The cool thing about the head-to-head modes is that you can go one-on-one, or get a partner and compete against up to three other teams in the Team Dash mode. It’s as crazy as it sounds. All of these options are local and online multiplayer enabled, except for Team Dash, which is online-only.

I assume the one-on-one battles are for offline play?

SD: Online play is an emphasis in Diner Dash on XBLA, PSN, and WiiWare, but you’ll find that one-on-one battles can be played both off or online.

Tell us about the different diners within Diner Dash. How will each one differ in gameplay and aesthetics?

SD: While the core gameplay from diner to diner won’t change much (except for a surprise reserved for expert Diner Dash players), the themes will certainly make for some fun changes of environment. As you move through diners, they’ll also have unique side dishes or appetizers that customers will request while waiting for their food. If you can deliver these to the customers in the right amount of time, you’ll not only keep them from leaving the diner, but you’ll also gain some extra cash!

Thank you for your time.

Swords & Soldiers
A Little Bit of... Magic Made Fun: Shuffle Games

All the 12 year old boys with credit cards that bought launch DSis must be loving these gradual releases of the year old Magic game they would already have if they wanted it as it comes with physical props...

S&S does look like fun though, but I'm not using the Wii much at the moment.

Swords and Soldiers is just great. There is nothing more to say here BUT

This is this years World of Goo so far (As long as there is no wow title at E3)

IGN Review of Swords & Soldiers

After de Blob and now Swords & Soldiers, Ronimo Games is definitely a developer to watch. There is nothing else like this on WiiWare, and the production values are much higher than most other games on the service. Strategy fans should find their fix here – just don't expect as deep an experience as some of the better-known real-time strategy games on PC. Removing a dimension and making the gameplay side-scrolling was a great way to get this genre working on a console. Swords & Soldiers was built for Wii, and as such it plays very well on the system. Don't let this one pass you by -- it's one of the best console RTS games ever.
8.5 Presentation
Swords & Soldiers has a great art style, held together with easy to navigate menus and controls.
9.0 Graphics
One of the best-looking games on Wii. Vibrant visuals and smooth animation. Runs in widescreen.
9.0 Sound
A rousing orchestral soundtrack and light, comical voice acting.
8.5 Gameplay
A streamlined RTS that is simple to control and provides a nice challenge.
7.5 Lasting Appeal
The three campaigns will each only take a couple hours to complete, but the versus mode will extend the experience.
8.7
Great OVERALL

I mean, yeah the stick made for quite a number of thumb calluses, but it was very cool-looking. Plus, playing N64 games with the loose CC stick makes me miss for the rather forceful precision of the thumb killer.

Oh, good, I was starting to be afraid that after the DSi launch they were going back to alternating weeks for VC/(Wii|DSi)Ware.

Are the EU numbers running close to any landmarks, incidentally? We hear a lot about how the US is approaching 300...

As of yet, there is no hack or manipulation you can use to access the JP DSi store on a US system right?

Will this even be possible?

if you have a japanese wii, then you just need to buy JPN point cards from like NCSX or play-asia.

The PV mentioned the 26th this month. And I am pretty sure you can buy Nintendo Points from the Wii Shop Channel with your credit card. At least it worked for me.

Edit: The game is called "Muscle Koushinkyoku", or "Muscle March".:lol

Okay what in the hell is that? Let's Muscle?

That was so damn awesome my eyes started to water. =(
This will never hit the US. Why does life suck so bad?

Been playing Swords and Soldiers for a while. It plays like a Tower Defence varient. The game is pretty good and fun to play. You make soldiers and they just keep moving towards the enemy base. All you do is heal them or use magic spells on the enemy (and yourself). The strategy is pretty much building the correct units for certain situations and using magic effectively. Its pretty addictive .
