Nintendo going red - a rebranding in progress?

Yes, I'm so happy they're going back to the red scheme in preparation for NX!

The good old days is here. I hope this means hardcore Nintendo is back too!

Well that shows how much I've been paying attention to their logos.

I don't blame you, their branding for the past 10 years got bland quickly. I'm really glad they're using colour again, but not overdoing it and keeping things simple.

Fucking commies

Thank god they're back to red(which is also my favorite color) instead of the deliberate safe sterile look they were going for.

I like the blue theme they use for the wii u but ive never been a fan of the grey white logo.

But red nintendo is the best nintendo so im glad to see this. Looks really good. Also representing me ;)

I actually liked the Wii-era branding, but this is good, Nintendo definitely needs to rebrand themselves.

This just makes me more excited for the rest of this year though 0_0

But the Miitomo app still has the grey logo

Yeah personally I'm expecting them to keep the white/gray logo and just use a lot of red around it. Which seems like the best option to me, the red logo had it's day but I honestly prefer the way the white logo looks in most places.

This is a really multi-faceted icon.

-The obvious Mario iconography symbolizes that Nintendo is first and foremost a game company that will continue to produce quality games.
-The cloud shape represents Nintendo's increased focus on its online environment (which started with the launch of this and Miitomo).
-And to the astute observer, the Game & Watch face is an honorary remembrance of Nintendo's past and their continual influence on the industry.

Or maybe I'm reading into it too much. =P

Regardless, whoever designed this should get a raise and immediately be put to work on branding the NX.

Definitely noticed this one too.

Uh weren't they always red ?
They were red up through the N64. In the GameCube/Xbox/PS2 days they were associated with purple for console color while Xbox and PS2 were green and blue, but the logo was still red. When the Wii and Wii U came along they used grey.

Anyone have some "before" pictures of Nintendo stuff to compare these to? I think something like that should be in the OP to have a nice clear idea of the difference with the color change.

It's not the same as it used to be, since the red and white are inverted now, but maybe this is actually better. It looks really good. I like it and hope they continue this.

I'm glad they're changing back to red. Even though it's white on red, instead of red on white.
But it might be a great change for things to come.

I am excited.

Generally speaking I'll bet whoever designed that logo was influenced by and intended all if not most of that.

It's just good logo design for your logomark to tell a story, regardless of how overt or subtle it may be.

Good, their best logo was the red one:

I'll take the reverse as an acceptable compromise. Move away from the ugly grey of the Wii.

The Wii branding is among the greatest in videogame history. Even electronics in general.

Yeah, the Nintendo brand was pretty damaged back at the time and Nintendo tried to start fresh from the GameCube and the Nintendo-is-kiddy stigma, so they created the Wii brand and changed the color Nintendo logo. It was funny because the official name was not Nintendo Wii, but just Wii, and the Nintendo logo was tiny, almost hidden in the box. Nintendo told the media not to call it "Nintendo Wii". It was an amazing success.

Now that the Wii brand is burned, and the Nintendo brand itself is "clean" again, it's time to go back to the origins... proudly :p
