Nintendo reveals Wii MotionPlus -- 1:1 motion control add-on

This better be attached to a Lightsaber game as part of the package, because nothing would be more bad ass than 1:1 lightsaber battles.

oh fuck. oh fuck. that would win everything.

Using two will give a better readout of direction and movement, think like you were holding a sword with both hands on the handle.

better control etc.
Using two?

You do realize its an attachment on the bottom of the controller.

Its not the ability to use 2 at once.. Samba already does this.

A few questions:

Can this new device be used with the nun-chuck? It looks like it covers up the slot.

Will games which have already been released be further enhanced? Or will they remain the same in motion-detection accuracy because the games weren't developed for this device? Does it work that way?

What does this mean in terms of game development? Will Nintendo continue with the same type of motion-control, or will they develop specifically for this new precision? In other words, will it just augment the experience or change it?

Not to sound like a dick, but this is annoying to me because the controller is supposed to exist to do this very thing already. It's like an admission that the controller sucks at the one job it has beyond a standard controller.

So, now games will have like ten different control schemes?

With the motionplus
Without motionplus
With balance board

What else? :)

:lol Nintendo just loves their upgrades! Reminds me of the rumble pack, and the memory upgrade for the N64. Snap that shit in, and BAM better games. This just continues the legacy of snap-in awesomeness.

Also, can't really see it, but is their still a connector for the classic controller, and nunchuck? I think it does.

So, basically instead of one sense of motion, it has two and uses them together to help balance and understand position better? that is actually pretty awesome. Only shame is that it doesn't seem to allow use of the Nunchuck with it, that is unless this also acts as a wireless hub for a new official wireless Nunchuck. That would explain why Nintendo sued Nyko! OMG THE PIECES ARE COMING TOGETHER!

I am actually pretty excited for this. Motion controls to add immersion are very interesting to me.

That.....is amazing. I'm really, really blown away by Nintendo's move on this. It's even really, really tiny and probably cheap to boot. Almost certainly will be packaged with a big name game.

Probably because MS/Sony will announce some motion thing and they wanted to get theirs out first :lol

Yup. They must have gotten the heads up that Microsoft is definitely about to drop the Newton at their press conference. What a shot across the bow.

I thought add-ons are always doomed to failure? Oh, right, it's Nintendo.

If you ask me, I think this vindicates people who said the current Wii Remote is inaccurate.

I'm afraid Nunchuk less games means more non-game applications.

But it could be interesting depending on what demos they show for it.
There's still a plug at the bottom for the nunchuk

And OMG I forgot about Zelda and the comments of it being first person with 1-to-1 hoped controls!

So... what the wiimote should have been in the first place?

 That's what I was thinking too... so is this the first ever "patch" for a piece of Hardware? Just stick it on the bottom of your Wiimote and it's "fixed"?

Question: Will this just be an accessory for the older wiimotes, and will this tech be integrated in wiimotes manufactured from now on out?

So how are they going to get this into the 26+ million consumer's hands?

Same way they got people to buy multiple remotes: bundle it with a game, same as they did with WiiPlay at launch.

I can see the Microsoft keynote people hitting their heads of a wall and scrambling to change their "We beat the Wii Remote" wording of their huge speech. They have to be a bit pissed considering it is only 2 hours to go!!

I think we all, to varying degrees, have wanted 1:1 control potential for the Wii. This is pretty huge. Drop it in a Wiiware 2 that shows off the technology and you'll have very high userbase penetration.

Hey, maybe my Wii will get some playtime now if it's used properly and works. I've always felt the motion was broken, I really hope this fixes it.

Pretty much. I thought the comments on the first page were sarcastic. I'm not all that excited about this personally; I feel like I have to buy more stuff again to enjoy the games. I wish it was built-in into the controllers.

Interesting that they announce this now. Do they know something about what Microsoft will be showing today?

so one hour or so before MS announces their waggle controller nintendo goes ahead and announces the next gen waggle, which is going to be a cheap upgrade.

I am REALLY digging the expandability of the Wii controller that is one of the best things i have ever seen on a controller and i suspect all future controllers will have this on them.
