Nintendo Sets Release Dates for Q1 for 3DS/Wii U

Rayman: Legends and Castlevania: Mirror of Fate before E3 is plenty for me.

PS3 is giving me more games than I can afford until then: Bioshock3/Dead Space 3/ Raiden/ TombRaider/ God War 4/The Last of Us. 8 games over 4 months is insane...Holy crap my wallet is whining and so am I to my wife.

I still need to bargain bin wait for Resident Evil 6/Assassins Creed 3/Journey Collectors.

As a 3DS and WiiU owner, I'm pretty happy with this lineup.

I'll probably be picking up:

Fire Emblem : Awakening
Luigi's Mansion
Rayman Legends
Monster Hunter

Damn that Luigi's Mansion Box Art. I think I'm finally going to break down and do it when that's out. I've managed to hold off on a 3DS this long but I swear I think it's going to break me. I love love love love loved the first one.

Yeah your early comment seemed to be pretty harsh. The overall lineup may be barren when compared to the 360/ps3 lineups but when I look at the games I really want to play on the Wii U and compare those to my other devices, I realize it's pretty much the same number. I've made a list in StreetsAhead's thread and the total was 7 games bought or are a sure buy until Q2. (Nintendo Land - Zombi U - NSMBU - Rayman Legends - MH3U - Pikmin 3 - TW101). These are games that fit my taste and not just something I'll spend an hour or two on, think it's pretty fancy and move on. I am pretty sure I won't have time to complete all of these in this window of time.

Now of course more choice is better, and I totally understand that most people would consider it bad if they're not interested in even half the games I am interested in but I thought I'd weigh in with my opinion to balance out the posters calling it "shit". I agree that the console doesn't offer right now enough games that fit in different genres and if you are going to make one and only one gaming console purchase then it's probably not the best choice. But for people like me, it's a pretty great purchase and I'm pretty sure there's a few on this forum.

haha quote please :p Thanks

Yeah you are right. My original statement was indees to harsh because Legends will be great, Monster Hunter 3 is great (though a port), and hopefully Lego City Undercover is good + Most Wanted/Aliens are worthy ports. I could see me buying three of those games if I had the time to actually play them, which is plenty enough for me. I think what makes it seem so bad though is the extra strong lineup on the other consoles and even the 3DS for Q1.

Anyways, I know I will be picking up Wonderful 101, Pikimin 3, and Wii Fit U in Q2 so five to six games I would strongly consider buying in the first half of the year is pretty good overall for a system in its first year. WiiU just needs to land more variety and quantity of titles, because otherwise it is a bad sign of things to come third-party wise.

I'll definitely echo your sentiment here. I'll be a really happy owner if I can get 6 to 7 games I'm really interested in every 6 months or so like this has been the case for the launch window (unless pikmin 3 or tw101 get pushed to Q3 or something) but I pretty much know this won't happen. It is the future I'm really worried about but for now I'm pretty satisfied.

I'm of two minds on that subject. I can see the benefit of that strategy, as you would think it would help push back against the anticipation that people have for the new consoles. On the other hand, I can see doing what I think Nintendo is doing, and that's hold off on trickling out game announcements, and then blow them off all at once in an orgy at E3. That way, Nintendo has an entire keynote event to announce a bevy of software titles that are playable on the show floor and available for sale in the coming months, and you leave Microsoft and Sony to spend most of their events detailing new hardware, and maybe showing off a few demos and teasers for the new consoles for late in the year.

I see both sides also, which is why I originally asked if people thought it was a good idea for them to wait. It just seems the less risky avenue is to go ahead and start building that momentum now and have as many people buy into your console as possible. That will delay some buying the next system from MS/Sony while also building the install base so you don't get overlooked on ALL multi-plats.

To be clear, I love my Wii U and the release schedule is completely fine for me. I don't regret buying my Wii U at all. That said, the concern is the upcoming releases doesn't offer a lot of "system seller" type of games, IMO.

Edit: Should have said overlooked by 3rd parties...

The Wii U is getting enough games for me since I need to split my gaming purchases across other consoles so I'll be fine and I think its kinda funny that a lot of people are reacting the way they are to old news about some games coming in Q2.

also, why are people surprised that Animal Crossing isn't coming Q1 when we have a ton of titles coming five of which are being published by Nintendo? It would be stupid to just shove it in there when they can release it during the summer and put a huge focus around it and the bundle if they end up bringing it over.

Love the picture of the woman doing steps on the Wii Fit controller while two-handing the gamepad in front of her. Just what you should be doing while you exercise. Nintendo. Come on.

Just looking at those Wii Fit U promotional pictures, I can't fathom why anyone who was pulled in by Wii Fit would feel the need to purchase it...

Stepping on the board while holding the controller out as it mirrors the TV screen?

I wonder if a lot of it has to do with Nintendo wanting to save stuff for the start of the new fiscal year since this one is probably going to be a loss anyway due to the launch of the Wii U.

Looks pretty stupid, I agree - I really think Wii Fit is just a way of drawing people into an exercise regime (or cashing in on people's quick-fix mentality to fitness) rather than being anything particularly effective at raising fitness or endurance - so I'd think that anyone who had Wii Fit would probably have moved onto real exercise if they were really intent on starting something.

Isn't it kinda odd that Wii U Fit artwork is shown there, yet all of the other games are slated for Q1 release.
Probably a April game. Which means Pikmin is probably atleast May...then again, they are releasing Pokemon and Luigi's Mansion on the same day. Wat.

Anywayz: So glad of my most wanted three titles (Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, and Pikmin) atleast one of them is launching in Q1. Fucking finally.

Luigi's Mansion is day one for sure. There are lots of other games I want, like Lego City, Fire Emblem, Pokemon Dungeon, Brain Age, Rayman Legends, Monster Hunter 3DS (Rather play on portables), and even more eShop games.

Sadly, I won't have that much money over the next few months and what money I will have, will likely spend on games that I have yet to get, so I dunno if anything else will be day 1. I still haven't played Rayman Origins so I might go ahead and get the Vita version of that instead of Legends for now. Playing too many RPGs so Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon are probably out aswell.

3DS lineup is good, butWiiU yea...I kinda saw it coming but figured there would be atleast G&W or WiiFit in Q1...

360's launch/first year:

Elder Scrolls Oblivion
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
Dead Rising
Saints Row
Chromehounds
Rainbow Six Vegas
Gears of War
Kameo
Condemned
Fight Night Round 3
Viva Pinata
Amped 3

Most of these are 1st party games or were exclusive at the time.

Most of the notable games in the first year, saying these games were crappy at the time in 2006 seems very disingenuous. These experiences were fresh and new for console owners, I don't know if the same will be said about Wii-U's first year.

How much of that was Q3 and 4?

I'm a bit more forgiving of things like this, but even I think that's a pretty bad Wii U release schedule. Though there's not that huge of a drought for me personally, as I'm still playing through launch backlog, then we get Rayman and Monster Hunter soon after that.

This is the U.S. schedule, right?

3DS schedule is pretty good, though I feel like we were drowning in DS games at the same point in its life (third year). Maybe I'm mis-remembering that though.

EDIT: My body is not ready for Wii Fit U. I can't wait!

EDIT 2: If Nintendo were genius, I would have a 3DS app that replicated that meter instead of having to carry both. But I bet we all know the odds of that being the case.

I can't believe Nintendo is repeating the 3DS launch drought with Wii U.

On the other hand, that made the 3DS go into beast mode to recover, so maybe it's for the better?

I wonder if it's mirroring, actually. Perhaps it's actually a case of holding the pad up while you're in that position, then adjusting the pad's position to perform some in-game task (think using the pad as a scanner in other games etc.) that also pushes the player into certain stretches or poses? How you do in the game depends on how well you execute the stretch/pose etc.

Well, part of it too I think is that this is traditionally a slow period anyway, if it weren't for the final quarter of the year finally overloading (or perhaps just some series getting too huge to work around) it'd probably be practically dead outside of niche titles. At least Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate fills a similar niche Oblivion did for the 360: out within that first spring, and such a big meaty game you could spend more than enough time on it to make being an early adopter feel justified. Except in this case it's probably not as good alone.

I believe it's a game where you hold the Gamepad and look at it as you turn from side to side to shoot things with water or something from a first/third person perspective. It was in the trailer. The TV shows the action from a higher angle.

For everything wrong with the Wii U's launch period, Rayman alone is better than anything that came out during that disaster. Nintendo's biggest game for 8 months was OoT 3D

So perhaps something like I described then? Turning the pad stretches the player in certain directions while they're taking that position, working certain muscles/groups?

Nintendo is in peripheral hell with Wii Fit. How many people with the first game are going to buy the Wii U to play the second? Better question, who's going to dig up the old ass balance board, or hunt one down, of any group of people? Then saying Pikmin is best played with a Wii Motion plus? WTF?

Balance boards, Wiimotes, gamepads, pros, wives, cats, sacks, kittens. How many were going to St Ives?

Nintendo are the kings of disposable plastic shit.

Wii U lineup is predictably barren, though I don't doubt the gold will start coming later. For now I think MH3U and Rayman will do me over. And depending on reviews, Aliens too (whenever it has a release date...) Sucks that Pikmin 3 keeps getting pushed back. How long has it been now?!

Having a stellar lineup early on is pretty rare it seems. It's not like 360 and PS3 had amazing lineups in the first half of the year. A shame Nintendo doesn't have much of its own developed IPs to offer for the first half of the year ,at least ones most of us will care for anyway.

Here's what 360's 2006 lineup for the first half of the year:

note: not sure if there were other multiplatform games where 360 received an exclusive version of a multiplatform title.

- Fight Night Round 3 - (exclusive version/multiplatform on last gen consoles) - February for NA (March for Europe)

- Dead or Alive 4 (exclusive) -January for Europe & March for Australia

- Burnout Revenge (multiplatform) - March
Current-gen versions came out 6 months earlier

- Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC port) - March

- Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (multiplatform)- March

- The Outfit (exclusive) - March

- FIFA World Cup 2006 (multiplatform) - April

- Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (multiplatform) April
Current-gen version came out 6-7 months earlier

- Final Fantasy XI (multiplatform) - April

- Tomb Raider: Legend (multiplatform) - April

note: Microsoft itself only had like 4 games out in 2006, but only two of them it developed. Nothing offered in the first half of the year.

Hmmm.

Since they're both released on March, I'll probably end up skipping Mirror of Fate and purchasing Monster Hunter 3 instead. At least I'll have the opportunity to see some impressions first.

I think there's going to be some weird shuffling with third party Wii U games this year, but I'm less worried than I was a a couple weeks ago.
