Nintendo Sets Release Dates for Q1 for 3DS/Wii U

aw, poor weegee...be brave, little guy!

honestly, FE and SMT are like day 1 since a) i want them and b) they're hard to find when they sell out

Having a stellar lineup early on is pretty rare it seems. It's not like 360 and PS3 had amazing lineups in the first half of the year. A shame Nintendo doesn't have much of its own developed IPs to offer for the first half of the year ,at least ones most of us will care for anyway.

Here's what 360's 2006 lineup for the first half of the year:

note: not sure if there were other multiplatform games where 360 received an exclusive version of a multiplatform title.

- Fight Night Round 3 - (exclusive version/multiplatform on last gen consoles) - February for NA (March for Europe)

- Dead or Alive 4 (exclusive) -January for Europe & March for Australia

- Burnout Revenge (multiplatform) - March
Current-gen versions came out 6 months earlier

- Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC port) - March

- Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (multiplatform)- March

- The Outfit (exclusive) - March

- FIFA World Cup 2006 (multiplatform) - April

- Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (multiplatform) April
Current-gen version came out 6-7 months earlier

- Final Fantasy XI (multiplatform) - April

- Tomb Raider: Legend (multiplatform) - April

note: Microsoft itself only had like 4 games out in 2006, but only two of them it developed. Nothing offered in the first half of the year.

I think the two situations are vastly different. The 360 had developers lining up, MS was in the blank check writing mood, and you knew great games were coming. Gears, Ghost Recon, and Oblivion were all GOTY candidates in 2006.

The WiiU is the first next gen console in forever, and it feels like third party companies don't give a shit. Nintendo has been quiet in marketing and getting info out, and I don't think anyone is really holding their breath for tons of great third party support down the road. Hopefully it looks better as the year goes on, even if that requires a price drop.

For everything wrong with the Wii U's launch period, Rayman alone is better than anything that came out during that disaster. Nintendo's biggest game for 8 months was OoT 3D
Haha, I remember that. Truly a sad time (even more so when you consider the experiment behind it).

Also never mentioned in "list wars", is that multiplatform games should have an asterick saying:

*On everything except Nintendo systems

It may as well be exclusive as far as Nintendo only owners go, because its not coming for it. GTA, Elder Scrolls, DMC, Metal Gear, etc are the same as to 360/PS3 owners as Mario, Zelda, and Metroid are to Nintendo systems because neither are coming to the other. But some still list them as multiplatform, ignoring that fact.

My guess is Game & Wario is being delayed due to the poor Wii U hardware sales. It wouldn't sell well and be quickly forgotten if they released it now. Releasing it when there is a bigger userbase to sell to gives it a greater chance of success.

It won't be that hard this time around though, DD versions will always be there as an alternative, that's like the most awesome thing about DD in my opinion, if a game ends up being super rare, you won't have to pay above MSRP to a random guy in eBay (or whatever) anymore.

Day one:
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate March 19
Etrian Odyssey™IV: Legends of the Titan Feb. 26
Fire Emblem Awakening Feb. 4
Luigi’s Mansion™: Dark Moon March 24

Looking forward to:
LEGO® City: Undercover March 18
Shin Megami Tensei®: Devil Summoner®: Soul Hackers April 16
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate March 5

I'm really happy with the 3DS line-up, now I think it deserves to sell well. Let's keep this steady stream of releases going! Can't wait for Animal Crossing!

unless they get delisted due to expiration of publishing rights, a company dying, or just cause. Nintendo even pulled the Donkey Kong Country trilogy off the VC without warning and no apparent reason right as the WiiU was coming out.

At least the one game I will be buying for my Wii U for the next three fucking months is going to be a good one.

I'm almost convinced Nintendo deliberately delayed Wii Fit U and Game & Wario outside FY2012 in order to get the most loss this FY and most gain next FY.

Terrible Q1 list for the Wii U. Whatever happened with the "all games revealed are within launch window"?
I think the window just expanded in size.

Also Reggie's 'surprise' coming for fans in the launch window seems more like 'surprise! we aren't releasing anything'.

I don't think Nintendo is in a position to artificially delay anything.

Yeah, but that doesn't happen that often outside of games with licensed content or games from past generations (i.e. old games). They obviously must have had a reason to pull those titles off, maybe an issue with Rare or whatever, I don't see that happening to FE which is developed internally and with 0 licensed content.

I know those games aren't guaranteed to be there forever, I just said that it's a very good alternative to get harder games which could also prevent the retail versions of those games to get excessively expensive.

3DS is getting the momentum rolling in February and March. Hopefully they keep it going and then top it off with some announcements at E3. I was pumped before all this with having what amounts to at least one title a month I'm getting for the 3DS, but this just shows that the momentum is growing for the West. A lot of it is first party stuff, but you also have a couple good 3rd party titles in there. Then you have Animal Crossing probably in May/June to keep things going.

The Wii U is a disaster. I'd almost rather drop $130 on a Wii and catch up on Wii games instead of buying a Wii U for it to sit. A friend of mine bought one and I've played NSMBU quite a bit and it's fun but nothing I'd pay $400+ for. I feel bad for people who bought one thinking it would have all these games in the launch window and now Q1 is here and so much has been pushed back with little info other than that these games are eventually going to release.

That said, it would be nice for Newegg to do another one of those $10 off preorder deals so I can get some of these new release games for $30 instead of $40!

Hypebole much? Can you name me a single successfull system that had an absolutely amazing first year? This is how launches are. It's just been so long since we've had a console one, people just seem to have short memories.

I for one, have really enjoyed my Wii U, and have had awesome mp fun with friends in Nintendo Land, NSMBU, Zombi U, Scribblenauts, Nano Assault, Mighty Switch Force, etc.

I was mostly talking about that Q1 list being a disaster and how many "launch window" titles aren't on it.

At least with most new systems, you get the initial tech factor of more power in the system, a first party game or two showing off that bump, and at worst some third party ports on roids, if not a couple of impressive games.

Nintendo managed the trifecta of releasing a new system not any more powerful that its 7 year old competitors, with somehow WORSE third party ports, and didn't even release or even have shown a game that even takes advantage of the systems meager power.

I don't think thats hyperbole to call it a stinker. They're not even providing the bare minumum of some flash and sizzle of seeing something new on screen.

To be honest, there are a number of games I'll be picking up in the coming months. So I'm not all that concerned as March will be a little full with LEGO City and Monster Hunter as well as Need for Speed (I'd like to drive around in a Lamborghini). Not to mention Rayman Legends and Fire Emblem as well. Too many games to pick them all up.

It sucks that all the Wii U stuff has to be bunched up in the last half of March.

The list is decent enough but if they spread it out, would be really helpful. I'm looking into getting Rayman Legends, Aliens CM, Lego City Stories and Monster Hunter 3U. Plus probably an indie title or two.

If they spread this stuff out it'd really help with the old wallet, especially with the various PC and 3DS titles that'll be interspersed with all of this.

Not saying you're totally wrong but at least for me off-screen play is that flash and sizzle.

yeah i think a price drop is imminent. if rayman wasn't being published by nintendo in japan, i think it would definitely be headed to other consoles within the year.

i think a huge fallout happened behind the scenes, and nintendo was planning to have a more robust third party lineup throughout the year, with a sparse middle-year for first-party stuff. now it seems like they need to spread it around a lot. wii fit u and game and wario should have been out this quarter. doesn't bode well for their end-of-year lineup either.

if this is the last nintendo console, i won't be too torn up about it.

*sigh* There does seem to be a vocal minority on gaf who feel that other people shouldn't enjoy products they personally hate for entirely subjective reasons. It wouldn't be so annoying if they didn't go into every related thread yelling at people to effectively stop having fun.

I think there's going to be some weird shuffling with third party Wii U games this year, but I'm less worried than I was a a couple weeks ago.

hey btw, I think you were the one that hopped into a WUST at some point and mentioned you had seen or heard about something for wii u that made particularly excited. Has that title been revealed already or has it yet to see the light of day?

CLICKY STICKS.

Rayman® Legends Feb. 26
LEGO® City: Undercover March 18
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate March 19

So they have nothing in January and most of February until Rayman at the end of the month
and then they release Monster Hunter and Lego City at the same time mid March?

Why didn't they push to bump Rayman to the beginning of Feb and Monster Hunter to the end of Feb or beginning of March to space things out?

A better release schedule would have been

Rayman® Legends Feb. 5
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Feb 26
LEGO® City: Undercover March 18

That way the games are spaced out a little.

Games are usually finished for a little while before they are released. Moving a game up 2 weeks shouldn't be a problem

Retail shelf and ad space can be a factor, you don't always have the luxury of operating in a channel vacuum

Lol, they've only announced Q1 games and a couple first half games.....how does Wii Fit U and Wario being slightly delayed spell doom for Q2, Q3 & Q4 for the Wii U? Not to mention all the Nintendo Directs that will be on the way full of Nintendo surprises that no projected release list will be taking into account. Funny logic? Funny logic.

A lot sure is riding on E3 for Nintendo, at least for fans not content with Pokemon and Animal Crossing.

ugh I hate being re-quoted ;)

Oh, was that you? I didn't even realise ;)

Is Japan happy with these releases?
Even is E3 is good. That would mean no good games till december.

It's cute you think Japan is getting half of those games. Lego and Rayman will be later than the States, Monster Hunter is already out. Dragon Quest X is basically it between now and March, in terms of big releases, probably, unless one of the other 1st party games launches here earlier (come on W101!).

Considering Nintendo is taking half the entire year (and possibly longer, who knows) to fulfill game releases it had pinned for "launch window" since the Wii U was fully revealed, I would seriously dial down your expectations if you expect a flood of Nintendo Direct reveals and first party releases for the second half of the year.

Is hapan happy with these releases was all i asked. I guess some games sell better there than here.

Just looking at those Wii Fit U promotional pictures, I can't fathom why anyone who was pulled in by Wii Fit would feel the need to purchase it...

Stepping on the board while holding the controller out as it mirrors the TV screen?
Watching TV while doing the proper exercises will come in very handy. I will just prop up the gamepad though.

being a pal 3ds owner i await:

code of princess
luigi's mansion
nano assault ex
castlevania

i am hoping the digital versions of splinter cell and mercs have a patch for cpp play. too much to wish for i bet lol.

these will do me for now.

if colonial marines wii u is the deffinite version then i will have to get a wii u for it. otherwise i will get the 360 version.

John also said 'Wow' about sonething Wii u at some behind closed door event. I think it was GDC 2012???

Not sure if we've seen it, iits still coming or It's been cancelled.
