Wii sales have slowed but it's still selling great and at a faster pace than the ps2....why are there so many reports about the platform dying?

Naaaa, he just can't wait to hear Matt say " . . . ITS A DARK GAMEEEEEEEE! :O"

That's true, I don't think he will get anything from them. Maybe an interview on Metriod Trilogy and how everything is going down at the studio after the departure of the big three. I don't think Nintendo will allow Retro to talk about their future games. Some hints would be cool tho :D

I'm not sure if it's a banned site, but they have the summary. It's from Nintendo-Everything:

Nintendo Voice Chat podcast summary

- Not much game news
- Was a lot of Avatar
- Not much was Wii-related
- Capcom brought Spyborgs and Resident Evil
- Thought the LucasArts game might have been the MotionPlus Star Wars game but it wasn’t…Maybe next year - Bozon thinks it’s coming eventually

Red Steel 2 delayed

- Not coming out this year
- Early 2010
- Makes picking Game of the Year a little easier
- Matt was really looking forward to it
- Not a whole lot of Wii choices if you’re a hardcore gamer looking for a traditional game for the rest of the year
- Maybe they’ll go back and refine MotionPlus support

Wii Sports Resort

- Craig doesn’t think people will buy the Wii for the game
- It still will sell a lot of games
- If Bozon was a new system owner, he wouldn’t care at all what Wii Sports Resort was since he already was going to buy the system to get Wii Sports…It’s the game people have been talking about for three years
- Wii owners won’t buy Wii Sports Resort on day one, will just buy it whenever
- Probably won’t sell like Wii Play
- Nintendo hides the fact that MotionPlus is in the Sports Resort box, just says in the bottom left “Wii MotionPlus inside”
- Matt wonders if it would sell more if there were an extra remote with the Wii Sports Resort package
- It’ll sell regardless but it won’t sell consoles
- Don’t be surprised by the initial numbers because this is the slow time for video games - Best time to sell is during Christmas

Scribblenauts

- Craig digs it
- He has it
- It is the real deal
- Puzzles are really cool
- Controls clunky - Control the character by tapping on the screen, but also need to tap to control objects
- AI of lead character sometimes won’t follow taps
- Controls alright, for the most part it works pretty well
- Overall some the puzzles are fantastic, idea is solid
- Official release date is September 15

Lack of VC games

- No VC games the past two weeks
- They’ve been favoring WiiWare recently
- Rumor going around that Nintendo is doing this because the VC sales aren’t performing as well as WiiWare sales
- Matt doesn’t believe the rumor since he doesn’t think NOA would say anything like that but he’ll eat a broom if it’s true
- Still don’t really have a good way of telling people what’s new, what’s out, etc.
- Games have huge dropoff after awhile since they are taken away from the Wii Shop Channel main page
- Situation even worse on the DSi, need to shop by how much the game costs
- Not a lot of efforts going into DSiWare either…Hudson released a 200 point Sudoku version of the 500 point version

Nyx Quest

- It’s a terrible name
- Very good WiiWare game, worth your consideration
- Stylized graphics
- A lot of platforming
- Use Wiimote to pick up/slide/manipulate objects
- Puzzles can get really tough
- Bozon doesn’t dig the overall style and feel as much as LostWinds, still having a blast with it
- Can triple jump, glide
- One of the better WiiWare games

Night Game

- Matt played it a lot recently
- Coming along nicely
- Looks good, music is awesome
- Controls and physics system have come together
- Adding motion support to it in the future

- Cave Story coming out very soon, just about wrapped - Going into the submission process soon
- Moves at 60 FPS
- It’s like WiiWare’s Super Metroid
- Controls work well
- Nicalis has a good lineup - Also picked up La-Mulana, working on other projects

Wii sales slowing

- $250 price point still nice sweet spot for Nintendo
- Now can actually go into a store and buy it
- Need to entice the package a little more - Don’t pull out Wii Sports, maybe include Wii Sports Resort
- Craig thinks numbers might start taking off again when September/October come
- Matt thinks it’s time for at least new system colors

Metroid Prime Trilogy (in reference to the Japanese Prime versions)

- Matt has played 3-4 hours
- Very much like Corruption
- Nice to be able to go back and play with the Wii controls
- Still holds up well
- Going to make a real difference when they get the retail copy with all of the goodies
- Embargo lifts the first week of August
- Not sure if Trilogy can use Corruption file but Craig doesn’t think it will

Reader questions

- There’s not much to the Wii update 4.1 - Fixes a bug in Wii Sports Resort involving the intro video
- MotionPlus probably drains the battery for the Wiimotes
- Professor Layton twitter account was fake
- Don’t have to worry about calibration for most games, many are already disguising the process
- No online multiplayer in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for Wii
- When sales truly dip then Nintendo will scramble on the next console - Would probably allow for backward compatibility - it’s impossible to predict what Nintendo will do - There will probably be an advancement to the controller for Wii 2/Wii HD
- Article about The Conduit on examiner wasn’t written by Matt - Can’t say the game sold poorly yet but not selling like it should
- Matt would suggest upgrading to DSi if you have the original DS - If you have a DS Lite and the color is important, you should wait

- Matt going to Retro Studios in the next week or two
- Leaving August 15th for Germany - Should get a lot of good WiiWare stuff from WiiWare devs
- No keynote, old E3 demos from Nintendo at Germany - Will get regurgitated previews
- Doing something Guitar Hero related soon
- Might and Magic got terrible traffic on IGN even though it’s an amazing game

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
So much talk of Sports Resort sales. It just fucking launched, and its a 'Wii' game in line with Fitness and Play. I don't know why they're talking it down as if it's going to be a difficult sell. I wouldn't be surprised if it stuck around in the charts for ages.

Really guys, really.

Really dumbasses, really.

These are the guys that marketed The Conduit for a year and they can't think of at least six better games on the machine that would appeal to traditional gamers for the rest of the year? I can think of three that are platformers.

Did people even saw or played the Red Steel 2? If so, can anybody tell me why this game needs to use WM+? All the slashing looks canned.

I agree with you. I'm sure they were either drunk or just being IGN :lol

I didn't even know RS2 was supposed to be this year at all. I am immune to disappointment!

I don't see TVC or Final Fantasy out this year (and A Boy and His Blob is a maybe), and Spyborgs and Fragile may not be that good. I'd add Icarian and Dead Space to the list though.

The slashing was a bit off the movement of the Wiimote, its not 1:1.

Crystal Bearers better come out this year or there will be bloodshed.

Depends on what you really want to play. After August things are looking kinda light for me as far as the Wii is concerned. I have Fragile, Muramasa, and Sky Crawlers already so I don't see a point in buying them again. I don't like horror games, so those are out of the picture. There won't be any big RPGs or shooters coming. A lot of family stuff on the horizon. Heh, if you're a Wii only owner, things are looking grim.

It's not canned, but there's too much actual movement involved. You'll be surrounded by 3-4 enemies and each one will require several sword slashes to finish them off. And you really have to swing the remote or else you're not going to do any damage. To make things worse, holding a button (I think it's B) separates the shooting from the swordplay, so sometimes you'll be moving the cursor around the screen like crazy instead of swinging the sword.

And the level design was extremely basic (though it was just a demo/intro. ...but on that note, Silent Hill's demo/intro was very cool so it's kinda not an excuse).

You're not into platformers?

But the point isn't that people with particular preferences have nothing to look forward to. Platformers, horror games, and the stuff you have are all traditional games. This is not a repeat of 2008 (which is probably the worst year I've ever seen for a single system in its heyday holy shit).

Red Steel 2 feels like the next in IGN Wii's line of hyping up shooters over other genres because they're the most "mature." Metroid Prime, The Conduit, Red Steel 2, The Grinder. Bah.

Didn't the developers talk about some kind of calibration or something in which you swing and it judges the strength.

If they don't fix that it will make the game horrible.

Sports Resort could get some people who have played Wii Sports at friends house and maybe the newness of Resort can force them to buy.

Second slow week and the second week in a row they essentially ignore Little King's Story. Bitch and moan about a vacuum of quality software while ignoring one of the better games on the system and it just came out. Okay. I don't understand their agenda, they shill so hard for The Conduit and then turn around and ignore something like Little King's Story.

I'd say it was something about bloody games being mature, traditional games for them, but then I remembered how hard they pushed Zack and Wiki.

Doesn't belong on Wii, feels like Gamecube game something something.

I'll never forgive Bozon's terrible Fire Emblem review.

They started fine with the hints and all but now it's just terrible.

I miss the times Matt used to hint about the "Dark Game", it used to give some suspense at least.

(I skimmed it to see if they talked about it.) I believe the moneyhat reference at the beginning was a reference to this criticism. He "totally owned the haters" by not defending his review and referencing the game in passing during 1 podcast.

Like I said, it depends on what you want. I'm looking forward to the following:

Metroid Trilogy
Black remotes and nunchucks!!!
Wii Sports Resort (wife wants)

I think that's it. I'm not into the platformers of today and don't even remember the last time I played one. These days I'm all about shooting stuff or slashing stuff. Hmmm...really just ass kickin' in general. Not many of those games coming and I could care less about Spyborgs. Next year should start off pretty well with No More Heroes 2, but outside of that I'm not sure what to pick up. The Wii is just lacking in the kinds of games I like to play. I guess it's good I have a 360, but every time I think about it I just feel like it's a wasted opportunity by devs.

Oh, and I might break down an pick up Dead Space: Extraction since there just isn't anything else to get.

Come on, AniHawk, even you can't be that mean to Metroid Prime :(

Also, what's sad is that Matt and Bozon are pretty representative of the 'hardcore Nintendo' gamer these days. Atleast, that's the impression I get by reading the IGN boards. I used to think these type of guys would be willing to over look the need for violence for a game to be 'hardcore', but that sadly doesn't seem to be the case.

Mind you though, Radiant Dawn actually was a Gamecube port up, so technically, Bozon was right :lol

No doubt. That's been bugging me too. Little King's Story is so obviously a superior product in terms both concept and execution, but they hardly ever mention it and dock the game half a point in the review based solely on the lack of IR (despite the controls being perfectly serviceable). Meanwhile the Conduit, which is unremarkable in every way except for customizable control, is hyped to hell and back by the site and held up as some sort of shining beacon of traditional gaming on the Wii.

I'm hoping it's going to be good, but seems like it's hype keeps going down the more and more they talk about it. Not sure if I'm gonna pick it up or not. I was originally super hyped, but now not so much.

For Crystal Bearers, take a look at most of the E3'09 previews. Some were saying it's like Zelda (gameplay), some Disaster : Day of Crisis (QTE), some even said GTA elements (sandbox overworld).

In regards to the IGN Wii team, anymore I have to take any comments and opinions they give a grain of salt, IMHO they simply aren't reviewing and discussing the Wii platform reliably, they have too much of an "agenda" with it so to speak.
