Nintendo want every developer to publish on wii u

Console maker wants more developers to make games for it's console.
Realistic or not, I'm a believer though, I really think Wii U can gain momentum and attract more third party devs.

A big part of me wants this, and it looks like Wii U is well on its way to being a total turkey that will struggle to hit Gamecube numbers. I'm hoping this gives the stubborn old men in Japan a good kick up the arse, but I think the company is so set in its ways that it will carry on doing everything as it wants to, irrespective of market trends.

I love this argument.

if the current situation is with strong relations with 3rd parties, i don't want to see where nintendo would be if 3rd parties hated them lol.

When will Nintendo learn that the size of installed base doesn't mean shit if the target audiences of 3rd-party franchises are not in there? The only way Nintendo can convince 3rd-parties to jump on board is showing them that WiiU owners are willing to buy games outside Nintendo first parties, which is not the case at all.

Which is because they (fans) are getting burned the fourth generation in a row now. Chicken and egg...

nintendo needs to start paying for the ports of the bigger games at the very least. if some of those ports get decent sales then others might be willing to port.

In what way is this "unique" when they've got two direct competitors in exactly the same position?!

does MS produce software? serious question here, like recent examples

Wont work

Juggalo in GTA5
Juggalos threw bottles and hurt method man
Juggalos wont buy RZA edition

WU is doomed

macca? i dunno man, at this point "THE SYSTEM JUGGALOS WONT BUY" as a tagline might help move a few units

...did they really throw bottles at Meth? man im glad i don't go to the fests, idve caught a case

No Nintendo, you do not have strong relationships with third parties. You're the freak on the bus everyone tries to avoid eye contact with.

And developers want to sell their games.
So what about releasing decent hardware at a decent price, a competitive account and online structure and games that people who buy third party stuff actually care for?

Of course they'd love to, but they have to get rid of the stigma that their users only buys Nintendo games only.

Sad the whole Nintendo and 3rd party situation is a joke now. Why Nintendo doesn't just do what they need to do to succeed is beyond me. It's obvious they can't move tje system on their IP alone. Shit it is like they don't accept their failure AND don't see they are losing fans with their delusion.
I
Would imagine it's because there's no silver bullet for success. Every entity, be it individual or corporate, has differing methods to get there. If it were that easy or simplistic, Vita would be outselling 3DS. Since Sony is now lauded on GAF as some grand champion of listening to their customers' every want and desire by comparison to Microsoft or Nintendo, it really should have success in the bag any minute now, right?

No, success isn't as straightforward as giving GAF everything it wants. Shit we like that gives us everything we dream of fails ALL THE TIME, sometimes through no one's fault.

They're getting burned because Nintendo have made a piece of hardware incompatible with the demands of modern gaming.

Many devs can't even keep up with the demands of modern gaming because of the vastly increasing costs. It seems we have already forgotton how many studios closed this gen. Are things supposed to get better next gen? Are will we see a repeat of the same, with only a few huge companies, in a small range of franchises, having success on the platforms?

That makes no sense since there would be still absolutely no reason for gamers to play their third party stuff on the WiiU.
Nintendo needs to bring exclusive games that appeal to this demographic in the first place.

They can't lose money selling consoles like Sony and Microsoft do.

I'm a happy Wii U owner, but I won't play any third-party games on it unless they're exclusive.

1. Arkham City was a bad port with a bad framerate, hideous new costumes for Batman and Catwoman, and more compression on the cutscenes.

2. Assassin's Creed 3 went a really long time with no word about getting patched, even long after other versions had been patched multiple times. I don't know if they ever did update it because I got tired of waiting and sold it.

3. Injustice got the DLC a long time after other versions, still doesn't have all the DLC today, didn't link to that shitty iOS game for unlocks, didn't get a season pass discount, won't be getting an Ultimate Edition or whatever they're calling it, and I don't think some of the costumes are even available in this version.

Those are just the three bad experiences I've had in the very short time I've had the console. And in addition to those specifics, there's a general issue where you can never get any kind of collector's editions or pre-order DLC if you buy the Wii U versions of games. And instead of just including that stuff on disc for Wii U owners after making the decision to not support that version the same as others, they just say fuck it and give people the shaft.

Regardless of the specifics, there is something wrong with the Wii U version of every multiplatform game I've played on the system.

Never again.

there are still a ton of people who only buy one console so they are currently missing the bigger 3rd party games.

Yeah and these people are not going to buy a WiiU anyway if they are interested in the kind of games third parties release.

They can't lose money selling consoles like Sony and Microsoft do.

Well they are losing money on Wii U and possibly similar to Sony (1 game and/or PS+ makes profitability)

It's that Nintendo put so much into the GamePad, low power use and BC that that inevitably affected the cost.

Fine, 2+1+0.5 gens. N64 and GCN were decidedly not underpowered, Wii was underpowered but had enough of an install base to dedicate more teams towards it and the WiiU is powerful enough for every single game not being released on it this year.

Yeah Nintendo.
Be more innovative for gods sake and copy MS and Sony.
We need 3 identical consoles.

I don't think you have to worry too much. Third parties are aware of the problem and won't produce bad ports in the future.

Nintendo aren't cheap, they actually made a reasonable gamble, make a low end system, because it's cheaper to develop for. They just mistakenly thought anyone would want a uPad.

Even if they'd have waited till this holiday and launched a PS4 spec console, they'd have been destroyed.

Sony made much bigger losses in other departments than gaming, so your point makes absolutely no sense.
Many of their losses were amortized by their gains in others. That's how large corporations within multiple fingers in multiple pies do things. It's why Sega still lives, pachinko makes great money for Sega Sammy Holdings to suffer repeat losses.
The only other business Nintendo has outside of games is merchandise and licensing, which would have no value without the games.
So no, cash lost is cash lost for them, PERIOD. They have nothing else to cover that.

It's your point the one that makes no sense. Just because they lost even more money outside of gaming that means they didn't lose money with gaming? Okay.

Yeah Nintendo.
Be more innovative for gods sake and copy MS and Sony.
We need 3 identical consoles.

Also, this.

Yeah Nintendo.

3 identical consoles would be much better than one good, one meh and one shit console that has absolutely zero demand going for it. Nintendo should diiferentiate themselves from the others via software, not over having garbage hardware for ridiculous prices.

Wii U will be worse than Wii was in third party support, with only a few games from Sega, Ubi and Capcom to really pad out their lineup and with only few of them selling respectable figures.

It's that Nintendo put so much into the GamePad, low power use and BC that that inevitably affected the cost.

wait, what now? can you cite something that shows these were particularly expensive ventures for them? because it's the first ive heard of that, in comparison to say the tech used for the pad.

Of course they can. They are a multi billion $ company.
But the launch price of the WiiU would have been more than enough to create a much beefier console without losing money anyway.

You keep saying this as if you know what the hell you're talking about.

Many of their losses were amortized by their gains in others. That's how large corporations within multiple fingers in multiple pies do things.

Except that Sonys gaming division was never carried by others since most of the others were doing even worse and gaming was one of their most profitable branches for ages.
The "Sony can make big losses in gaming because they have other division that carry the weight" myth is bullshit.
SCE has to carry it´s own weight just like they did all the years before or they will be shut down. Simple as that.

Agreed. Rayman Legends is probably the first one to be better on Wii U. I'm not hopeful for Watch Dogs being any good though.

He's obviously right though, the uPad is a money pit.

You realize how much of a loss Sony's taking on the PS4 right? Wii U's loss pales in comparison.

Then again the PS4 will most likely be just fine in sales. Here's hoping the attach rate's high enough to make them a profit.

Why don't nintendo actively do something to make the WiiU attractive to third parties instead of just relying on a few first party games instead.
Lower the price to €150 and throw in a Mario game.

It´s called common sense. I can walk to the Pc store around the corner and build a rig for 350€ that blows the WiiU completely out of the water.
Are you telling me Nintendo is paying more for hardware than i am?

Yeah Nintendo.
Be more innovative for gods sake and copy MS and Sony.
We need 3 identical consoles.

We already have three identical consoles: Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U.

"B-b-but the Gamepad makes it innovative!" Yeah, try releasing some games that use it.

They have both said they're in the black with a single game.

But people won't buy any 3rd party games then.
