No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

It kinda doesn't, why would the ship sellers sell ships that are super weak when you are near the center of the galaxy? Isn't that supposed to be tougher and thus would require higher upgraded ships?

The game isn't really tough on your ship unless you start picking fights. Outside of that it's just a mode of transport.

If the game let's the player know, hey, maybe you should upgrade your shit and we'll provide you with more shit, it's alright.

But if you are left in the dark, you'll end up the streamer and just go around fighting things you have no business fighting.

Edit: Even saying that sounds weird. Does the rest of the game operate like that? Design wise, it just sound weird.

watching these streams, there seems to be a distinct lack of explanation for half of what you're doing with items and in menus. obviously people don't like to have everything handed to them, but at a certain point when people are straight up missing entire systems in your game, maybe something has slipped through the cracks

I dunno. It seems like an easy enough fix I would hope but dont other games operate the same way? Like to unlock something big and powerful, you need to first unlock the less powerful things? Like, I get that its not exactly logical in its context but its makes a tid bit of sense. Kinda like a skill tree or something.

It would be nice if it was explained.

When people are straight up missing things? It's just one guy so far who missed this stuff.

True, but for guys like me who want to lay into a fleet, I'd get wrecked and not know why.

Yeah, I hope that's not the case. I absolutely hate it when games either hide necessary info in vague places or don't show it at all.

Well, most games, as you progress at least, give you a decent explanation or warning that you can (or should) upgrade.

I know we may get a more in-depth look at the maths once people start datamining/rev-engineering this on PC

I'm also really curious how locked-down this is going to be for PC players. For example I don't see how NMS could reasonably foster any kind of mod community unless they allow PC players to generate their own seed and spin up a galaxy locally for local play only. I don't think they'd allow you to interject some user-created object-- even something as benign as a ship skin-- into the game proper if data like discoveries, major conquests, etc.. are meant to be shared between players in the same universe. Wouldn't the object and its variables need to be included in the initial galaxy generation before you start the game? etc.. etc..

Anyways, I know a lot of people are chomping at the bit to tear NMS apart (technically) and get into the guts of it. It's going to be fun to watch the effort.

Maybe. I think the idea is to get people experimenting. I think there are actually lots of mechanics that aren't revealed.

I don't know. It might have been really obvious but he missed it. People do sometimes play games missing something completely obvious. I mean I watched streams of people who played Doom and completely missed how to use ththe weapon mods or didn't know what the BFG ammo was. Some people actually do need to be spoon fed this information, personally I'd rather a game doesn't pander to them. But it's hard to criticise either way until I've actually played it.

Whatched a dude get the "Not enough inventory" on a multitool blueprint pickup. So either there are so few multitool upgrade blueprint that you can get them all within 12 hours, or there is a limit to the number of blueprints you can have.

If you are in to the space combat, I am pretty sure you are going to either buy a better ship or find and repair a better ship. Just because that one streamer was booking it through the game missed that, doesn't mean that most will.

I mean the other guy picked up a better ship right away by fixing up a crashed one. I mean it made it fairly obvious you could, and what you needed to collect to do so. I think the first guy was just barrelling so hard towards the centre he overlooked a bunch of stuff. He'd seen crashed ships, but just took their tech and moved on.

Upgrades fill space in the inventory too.

It's bullshit.

Arent certain slots specified for your upgrades? Like, you can have 5 upgrades in your inventory but if your multi tool or ship only has 3 upgrade slots, the other 2 are just taking up space? Or something like that?

Thats my understanding. And it makes it interesting to have to choose what upgrades you want until you get a better multi tool or ship with more upgrade slots.

Have we even gotten confirmation yet that you even need v1 of an upgrade if you have v2 or higher? That video from Dal had him dismantling them from v3 to v1, which I found ass backwards.

I'm not really sure right now, what I said is just what I think it is, you might be right.

I'm probably mixing the blueprints with the upgrades.

Agreed. I'm really looking forward to see what people will come up with. If it mods well, the potential is insane.

That's really fucking cool. Ruins of any kind just allow the imagination to run savage. I was hoping we'd see some stuff like this; particularly if this is something that is extremely rare that the vast majority of us will never see personally. It's a great "sci-fi book cover moment": a lone explorer standing in front of a ruin on an previously unknown alien world. Nicely done. Didn't expect to see it a week before release however, but I'll take it.

There is so much the streamers have not even discovered yet

Have not seen any of these in the leaked stream

As far as I'm aware no one has found a portal yet.

Seen a few flying eels though.

I'm gonna take a guess and say the really cool stuff they didn't spoil in their own trailers.

Actually, I think the very first streamer of this game (the one before the guy who made it to the center), saw one in the distance, but I guess he didn't realize what ti was, and instead walked past it.

Watching some of those streamers was so annoying they would just bypass whole things I found interesting and would have investigated personally.

I don't think we've seen any gameplay of inside ruins, huh? Badass posted an obviously bigger ruin in the distance but....damn. This is awesome.
Besides this shot and the one from the trailer, I don't think we've seen ruins or non-tech buildings at all (i.e. stuff besides trading posts or those facilities from the previews)

And none on the other streamers have encountered stuff like that

I've been trying to find the interview, but I recall Sean saying how he wanted to have procedurally generated buildings that could act like "dungeons"

Secrets and surprises indeed

Just to think there are potentially things you could find and almost nobody else will already makes me feel how special the game is. Cant wait for the screenshot OT.

About finding new ships

A Quick Note on Finding Better Ships

Just popping in to confirm this once and for all, I've finally figured out the definitive method on "getting better ships"
This is so obvious in hindsight but now I know 100% for sure how the game process works for it.
The game checks your current multitool or ship for the number of module slots, and when you interact with an NPC or weapon rack it offers you a better one. So as long as you keep buying weapons and ships, the next weapon or ship you see is better. It's that simple.
The reason this is important is because you may like a cosmetic on a ship or weapon you find, and you may notice a new ship is only 2 modules better than your current and you may think "I like this one more, it's not worth upgrading for that, I'll wait til I find better down the line."
Trick is, you never WILL find better until you purchase a +2 module ship. Then the next one will be +2 more, then +2 more, so on and so forth. Every time you buy a ship or multitool, you unlock the next level of it.
It's that easy. I finally have a 6x8 ship inventory, and it rocks!
PS. The game also offers you a comparative weapon or ship based on your current equipped Upgrades. This means if you've crafted a fully optimized weapon with tons of weapon upgrades, the weapons the game offers you also have tons of upgrades attached. This, in turn, makes them more expensive.
If you're in the market for a weapon or ship, completely scrap all available upgrades and go shopping with a blank. The game in turn will offer you cheaper, less optimal weapons and ships, but with the same +module slots.
Lastly, the next purchasable level seems to take effect almost immediately. At first, I thought I had to "reset" the game world by reloading or jumping to a new galaxy, but this is not true. Crashed ships you rescue function the same way - my 5x8 ship became a 6x8 ship when I salvaged a downed ship I found. When I got up and flew to a space station, the next NPC I immediately interacted with had an improved ship module version already. So it seems to be almost instantaneous.
And a note about cosmetics - it seems each System has a set type of cosmetic main style of ship it locks in. So when you visit a system, check out the 2 or 3 cosmetic styles you see, and know that those are the only ones you'll basically ever see for sale in that system. If you don't like em, just hop to a new one and keep window shopping. If you DO like one, then you can kind of hold out and window shop for one with the specific small procedural doodads you think looks coolest. That system will always have those types of ships, even if you leave it and come back later. It's a fixed ship type in each system for sale, always.
Those are my ship findings!

Cannot be stressed enough. To anybody that is on the fence about jumping in day 1 for whatever reason; price, skepticism, waiting for reviews, etc... just know that if and when you do decide to join us in exploring the vastness of space that HG is providing, there is high probability that you'll be the only person to discover something, be it a ruin, flora, or fauna, etc... and that the knowledge of its existence lies solely with whether you decide to share it with us or not. That's incredibly compelling, imo. Your participation in the exploration will be valuable whether you jump in day 1 or a year later.

He knows 100% that you cannot find better ships that have crashed on planets?

No he doesn't. But people thinking he is the rosetta stone to NMS due to early access will drive eyeballs to him, which seems to be part of the strategy.

I'm not dismissing the impact he and other street date-breaking streamers are having in informing us as to what the game is in its current state. Just that with something as vast as NMS, not to mention your obligatory Day 1 Patch, taking his experience as a template is probably not the best plan.

I honestly don't understand your question.
The dude is claiming to know 100% how the ship system works, yet we saw another streamer find a crashed ship on a planet and then proceed to fix the parts needed and took off in it. Now I am not sure that ship was better then his first ship, but I think the guy claiming to know how 100% of the ship upgrades work is malarkey.

I saw that stream :)

quite frankly the other dude is spreading FUD...

I wonder if the game allows duplicate names if you're "online". In before an entire galaxy of Balari V's.

I'm going to go ahead and say no. In a stream a while back, Anthony Carboni started naming everything Anthony and then said you'd likely run into that internet problem of having to write things like Anthonyxxx and Sean laughed in agreement.

Time to dip into dictionary of your native language, assuming it isn't English. Should have field with naming stuff by using Finnish :b
