Do we have a clearer idea if the PC version will actually be released next Tuesday in NA?
We have 6 more days until it's out. Gribble, I think you're carrying the torch a bit too hard. We agree on alot of stuff but, don't do this to yourself.

I'm doing nothing to myself, just rectifying things for people without nuanced understanding of debate. lol

There is nothing to debate. Debating on speculation and whether that speculation is correct is a folly.
Maybe you just keep repeating different galaxies and there's nothing in the middle. Maybe it's like minecraft was and there currently is no end game. Who knows. Just wait a week.
Is there reason to believe we all get a different second galaxy? Has there been two people who reached the centre? There are two reasons why I'd suggest we get the same second galaxy:
1: Sean insists that there is a possibility of meeting another player even though it's almost impossible and unlikely to ever happen. We wouldn't even have that slim chance if the second galaxy was different for everyone.
2: The name of the galaxy (Euclid) is a short word and looks to be created rather than randomly generated. Most planets are unreadable and one would have thought that if the galaxies are indeed different for everyone then galaxies would follow the same formula. This isn't proof but food for thought. I could be entirely wrong there because we don't know how many galaxies there are. If there are thousands then clearly there's no way they've named each one individually.
I suppose it's unconfirmed. I'm basing it on the logistics of the game, there would be millions of galaxies, if they were linearly arranged no one would ever see most of them.
On the other hand there are some interesting bragging rights associated with being the first to 'Galaxy X', so maybe they're consecutive.
People can play as they like and 30+ hours to get to the centre of your first galaxy is well worth $60, but I can guarantee if you polled all the No Man's Sky fans on this site, 99% of them wouldn't be farming their way to the centre of the first galaxy, they'd be exploring and enjoying everything else this game as to offer. This guy just went from waypoint to waypoint and farmed the hell out of Atlas stones. NOW he's exploring, which tells me a lot about his motives, especially when he reloaded an old save to go back to the first galaxy. It shows that he deliberately rushed and wasn't interested in anything else but finishing.
It was just a matter of wanting to be the first to do it.

Dude, who gives a fuck about how someone plays a single player game?
Well exactly. TBH I might still rush to the centre, I want to know whats there. Plus if it takes me 30 hours to 'rush' that's like weeks for me, lol.
I can explore afterwards. The game's designed to be approached how you want.
I'll explore as long as it's still interesting to do so. If that keeps me occupied for 10, 20, 50 or 100 hours is impossible to know until I'm playing it. Once that interest starts to dwindle because everything is getting samey I'll be shooting for the center like a bat out of hell.
Well that's fine, and there's nothing wrong with that, but I'm sure you won't make the same mistakes this guy made and post them on Reddit as problems with the game. He's now rectified those mistakes but the media has already taken his comments as evidence the game is broken. That was the whole point in me making that post. It wasn't to point out he 'played it wrong' but rather that his rushing lead to mistakes and misinterpretations of how the game works. If he hadn't rushed perhaps he would have found out before he posted his thoughts on the game.
I think that's less to do with his play style than his penchant for posting.
(Don't say that with your mouth full).
Haven't been following much in the past couple days. Did any new info on portals come out? Do they teleport you to an instanced dungeon-like place, or just a random planet?
If anyone answers this could you spoiler tag it please.
You're in the spoiler thread, dude.
Wait, so the $1300 guy only got to the center of a galaxy,? not the universe?
I know but that would be a huge spoiler.

Did we know of the Gek race?

Apparently he's done it in the past though. Two Arkham games and Bloodborne, for instant - got copies way early, misunderstood and misrepresented key game features, cast aspersions, and faded into the ether on actual launch.
His complaints sounds pretty valid to me (although he says he has really enjoyed his time with the game) but he doesn't have a good track record.
So whats at center of the universe?

can you name the undiscovered planets as you find them, or does it only list 'discovered by'?
To use Rogue Legacy as an example again, I think that the galaxies in NMS are like levels in Rogue Legacy, and planets are rooms.
The 18 quint. quoted number is the amount of *possible* unique variations (Minecraft also has 18 quint. possible worlds. It's just the theoretical cap for the unique planet generator algorithm in 64 bit.). Since you can't freely travel between galaxies, and a single galaxy is your playground, the amount of planets in a galaxy would be much more "relevant". Have the developers talked about this?
Pretty sure there actually 18 quint planets in the seed, not just possible variations.
If Player 1 goes to point ABCD on the map and Player 2 goes to point ABCD on the map, it'll be the same planet.
So basically a whole lot of freaking out over nothing.Well, at least Daymeuhn confirmed that the ship upgrade "bug" he found was not a bug and was just a lack of his actually jumping into buying a new ship. Seems like the game generates new ships and items with more modules and better stats when you start to buy them. If you never buy a new ship because it only seems like an incremental improvement, future better ships may not appear. So the mantra for me will be Explore and Upgrade, but not rush to the center of the univergalaxy.

Eh. Sure that would make sense. But the gradual upgrading and things getting bigger and better as you invest in buying bigger and better stuff also makes sense.Still sounds like a weird design decision. At least ship sizes should increase automatically as you get closer to the center of the galaxy.
I know we may get a more in-depth look at the maths once people start datamining/rev-engineering this on PC, but this video is a pretty good overview of the tech. This is my favorite piece of press on the game. Overall it's: a great overview of the tech, their vision, and their goals as a company. I highly recommend it to any who haven't seen it before. It's going to be interesting to read about the math and mechanics behind the magic when people start to tear apart the PC version.
Well I mean, didn't we see that other streamer find a better ship that had crashed on a planet and decide to fix it up?Well, at least Daymeuhn confirmed that the ship upgrade "bug" he found was not a bug and was just a lack of his actually jumping into buying a new ship.
