No more f*cking boss battles!

Honestly, if I was trying to convince someone to love boss battles, I'd recommend Gunstar Heroes or Alien Soldier.

Shadow of the Colossus is a great game. I just don't think that the Colossi in that game are good representatives of what bosses are in other games. Gunstar and Alien Soldier have bosses that are somewhat conventional in their approach, just insanely awesome.

Boss Battles are usually the highlight of games for me. Lost Planet for example, which I just played a few days ago, had some fricken awesome boss fights.

I know young people don't like school anymore but common. You're one step before wanting a game with no ennemies or challenge whatsoever.

Thats just retarded. Im glad to see some people agree with me though. The annoyance comes from the irrelevance of the boss fight compared to the rest of the gameplay. I just find bosses a chore now.

I should probably clarify: Im not universally against the concept of a final climactic encounter against a formidable enemy. So yeah its probably not entirely accurate to say that Im against boss battles. Its just those useless bosses that force you to learn a pattern and gradually decrease its health bar in measured increments. A few times in the Metroid Prime series I felt like this, although I finished MP2 without getting annoyed.

Im not against the concept final fights to conclude a sequence.

Gunstar Heroes over Alien Soldier. Alien Soldier gets pretty damn hard in the end compared to Gunstar Heroes, Gunstar Heroes also has co-op :) I love that weird flying eyes boss that can't kill you:lol

I love bosses. Metal Gear Solid are the boss imo, then Gunstar Heroes, Megaman and Alien Soldier. They are fun, challenging, changes the gameplay of the game. It also gives the devs a chance to just make these crazy ass dudes with 200 lasers on their shoulders and shit. It's awesome.

I hate hard puzzles more than I hate hard bosses, you normally know straight away why you lose to a boss, you don't when you "lose to a puzzle", if you know what I mean.

Boss battles are often some of the best parts of a game. Metroid Prime had great bosses.

MGS3's The End is possibly the single most memorable boss battle I've ever experienced.

I'll probably catch hell for saying this, but the most memorable boss battles I've had in recent history were from the Metroid Prime series.. I found them to be mostly innovative and fun. And yeah, I'm talking about ALL 3 GAMES. (even the much maligned Echoes, which is my fave)

So Im sick to death of boss battles right now. Maybe its just because Im getting older and have played too many games, or maybe Im right(I am). Whats the point of progressing through a fun sequence of game that rewards me on the basis of skill and strategy and is completely satisfying only to finish the sequence with an entirely irrelevant boss battle that forces me to learn a pattern just to progress?

Am I getting lazy? Theyre a real drag and they occasionally cause me to stop playing a game because I havent taken the time to die enough times to learn the boundaries and rules of this current battle. Oh yeah and I havent bothered downloading the play guide either.

Im not really sure what the best substitute to bosses would be. Maybe a puzzle. Puzzles are fun, patterns are pointless.

So what game are you playing lol

don't listen to them. The Prime series has the best boss battles in the history of gaming IMO

Also SOTC must be this guys worst nightmare.

Then you're fighting crappy bosses. The best bosses force you to apply the skills you learned in the levels to overcome the challenge.

Out of curiosity, which games with bosses have you been playing lately that prompted this thread?

If there were no boss battles, games like Rez would suck all of a sudden, so I'd like to have them stick around. Just because some bosses suck, doesn't mean that the industry should just abolish them completely.

Boss battles are a rare relic from old school games that I'm glad to see again. But I hope developers continue to keep things fresh and don't add them in just for the sake of having them.

Tomb Raider Anniversary actually inspired the rant.

I personally rather remove back of box bullet point features (like hundreds of moves, millions of unlockables, billions of hours of gameplay, etc) over cutting down on the number of enemies (as long as there aren't trillions of types of enemies). More things to kill = more fun.
My point was that even something utterly horrible in every way (halving the enemy diversity) still isn't as horrible as getting rid of bosses.

Personally, I'm willing to accept a few bad boss battles here and there, because the good boss battles form some of the best gameplay you'll find anywhere.
