With the purchase of inXile, Obsidian, and now Bethesda, MS has united a great deal American RPG talent as well as IP. But now they have a bit of a problem...
Their two biggest RPGs now are Avowed -- an Elder Scrolls-like set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, but essentially a new IP -- and The Elder Scrolls VI, which will have a similar market but with a much larger, more established fanbase.
There's a bigger opportunity here: Bethesda is not currently working on a Fallout 5. Obsidian has a lot of people who have a connection to the classic Fallout legacy, as well as New Vegas. inXile has some Fallout vets as well. MS would be much better served by having Obsidian lead up a proper Fallout game while Bethesda concentrates on TES6 and Starfield. It's a huge missed opportunity if they don't.
