Start releasing all your games on PC, From/Bandai/Namco. No more of this Bloodborne on PS4 only shit. You'll make your money and more on everything. (I basically bought a PS4 just for Bloodborne and PS3 for Demon's Souls. Dust gathering machines afterwards).

DS3 at 1440p + G-SYNC + Microsoft Wireless Controller is just...

Uhm... You know both of those games were fully paid for by Sony, right? They're Sony games, invested and paid for. I'd have thought this post was a parody, but I can't tell anymore...

Sigh.

As others responded in the exact same way, saying that Nintendo is making a traditional console hasn't really been true since the GameCube. Therefore, if someone thinks that Nintendo really is making a traditional console that will debut at E3 they are likely to be surprised.

Didn't know this was such a hot take.
You're right, there was no way anyone could have interpreted your post as thinking you had some insider knowledge. My bad.

Silly post dude.

And I love my PC as much as anything.

Does anyone think that the primary motivation for a PS4K is the collapse of last gen sales?
I think primary reason is because they can, doesn't hurt them if they do it right and last gen sales have nothing to do it. People are a bit more used to technology moving faster from phones, tablets, pcs etc... Of course the console space doesn't allow for yearly or even every couple of years upgrades. Three years seems like a sweet spot and right about the time a slim version usually comes out. The only difference is they are going to just cut the price of the original and make that the cheaper version and release a slightly more powerful version to entice people to upgrade. The fact this allows for 4K media enhancements which supports their tv initiatives is a bonus.

I think their primary motivation is to test if the gaming market is open to iterative hardware cycles, because if it is, it allows them to have multiple hardware profit streams in a single generation.

You're assuming they are acting out of fear or a weak position. I do not think this is the case.

This is a market leader, with dominant position, looking to capitalize on that position.

This move allows the current enthusiast base the opportunity to buy another box (which they believe will happen) while also reaching the 4K early adopter market with a box on which they can purchase content. They also have the OG box available to new entrants and more developing markets around the world, that need lower cost of entry and don't need the 4K options.

I can't think of anything other than phones that the general public have accepted as coming with quick updates. Even then, I think it's accepted because of upgrades in plans and things like that.

I do agree with you about both companies possibly just doing it because they can, though. Slim models have the benefit of essentially being the same console whereas these possible upgrades appealing to a niche market either way.

It should be really interesting, though.

If communicated correctly it should work. Just the good old: add a few bucks and you get so much more.

There are a total of 97 MS Stores in the US, compared to the 4,434 stores Gamestop has the US.

Actually a little surprised the count is that high for MS. I remember when the first one in the world opened up not too far from here. Doesn't feel like that long ago. Edit: I lied, holy shit that was almost SIX years ago? Shit, I felt like it was 2014.

They opened another one even closer a while back, really should check it out more.

Just saw this one here:

Microsoft may have sold fewer than 20m Xbox Ones, EA reveals.
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/apr/18/microsoft-sold-xbox-one-ea
Is this even news? Unless my memory is failing me, I recall this "55 million install base by the end of 2015" estimation from EA to be from quite a long time ago. Correct me if I'm wrong, but two months later, a more recent estimation said 60 million, which was obviously inaccurate. 5 million for both combined in the first two months is next to impossible. In any case, unless we get concrete evidence, I'm going to hold on to my prediction of 18.25 million sold through for XB1 by the end of 2015. Should reach 20 million by the end of April.

There was this thread though... http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1206788

You expressed your skepticism there as well ;)

Well, yes. What was inaccurate back then is still inaccurate right now. :p

Anyway, I do remember posting my skepticism in that thread. It was quite lengthy and I didn't want to do the same here.

Edit: Whoops, I was thinking of another thread. The thread you linked is far more recent.

I found the "60 million consoles sold" estimation thread. Turns out it wasn't from EA, but another source.

http://.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1182614

Anyway, the 55 million sold estimation was indeed from months ago and nothing new. No idea why The Guardian only posted this now when it could have been figured out months ago.

So we officially at 2:1 now?
Depends, due to Microsoft's reluctance on sharing the sales of the XB1, estimations can vary greatly. Personally, I'm estimating 40 million sold through for PS4 and 20 million sold through for XB1 by the end of April.

It's cool. Just pointing out that there was a thread contradicting the one posted here. I believe it has merits for its own thread.

I agree too, just for the fact that people who actually do follow numbers, and were questioning the thread’s accuracy were labeled as having some type of agenda by the defense force.

This data is old, Xbox One has been over 20 for awhile.

Oddly, or maybe not, for this month t seems Quantum Break is selling out around many areas around my way. Found a wal-mart with a few stand alones.

Along with the price drop it "may" do something but we'll find out in May. Get it? Ok that was a bad joke :).

Please, show me concrete evidence that the XB1 passed 20 million sold through. And don't use that estimation from EEDAR. They screwed up the 3DS number big time and the XB1 numbers being exactly at 20 million is questionable. Also, in the UK, Quantum Break debuted lower than even The Order 1886. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case in the US as well. Your anecdotal evidence means jack in the overall market.

I would agree that the 20m figure (whether right now or worse end of 2015) is questionable.

Some base estimates with how the XB1 is performing in the NPD, but you have to realize just how badly the XB1 is selling in rotw...
Japan may be the worst outlier by far (with monthly sales ratio up to 100:1 or worse in favor of the PS4), but aside from the UK the tidbits of data we get from other countries are generally pretty bad.

Yup, the US is by far the biggest market for the XB1. I'm not saying it is DOA at most other countries, but I get the feeling that those who don't actively follow the numbers believe the XB1 performs better in those markets than what is likely. Also, the first three months of 2016 has not been bright for the XB1 in the US. I doubt the RoTW is faring any better. But it should reach 20 million sold through by the end of April.

I'm going by the thread.

Also this doesn't make it any less true the data is old.

Also why are we using the UK for anything. The sales results haven't really been the same imo in recent releases from the UK to U.S. the fact you take that as a serious sales measurement is curious. Also not sure what's with the tone in your post.

Who is denying that the data is old? My first post regarding The Guardian's article is that I remember this estimation from months ago. What solid evidence do you have now that the XB1 passed 20 million a while ago? Do you at least have a breakdown of how you came to that conclusion? As for the second part, I don't know if you're being obtuse, but the UK is basically a mini US and nothing has changed. No need to accuse me of anything. And my harsh tone is because I dislike people using anecdotal evidence as facts.

Fair enough for the QB statement if you weren't referring to the overall market, but your own observations only. What about your "20 million XB1's sold a while ago" then? Are you going to conveniently avoid that now?

I told you I got that from the thread. Specifically the thread that talked about the old data. I assumed it was a thing on here that the Xbox sold 20 or over since quite a few posts in that thread said that.
