Seriously is there anyone that owns a wii that wouldnt want this game? It captured the casual crowd by being a simple mario, it captured the hardcore crowd by having absolutely no competition, it captured the rental crowd by being multiplayer heavy, captured the pirate crowd by needing system menu 4.2(?), and it captured the nintendo fanboy buy having so much fanservice and this is all on the largest install base this generation.

I can't believe a large percent of these 10 million only bought it because of the mario and nintendo names but what can you do. Nintendo probably likes being the market leader and sole developer for their platform.

I see NSMB2 on DS2 as a launch game Fall 2011, if DS2 does come out before I still think NSMB2 will hit Fall 2011.

How about we get one console version of NSMB and one console version of Yoshi's Island every generation. I can dream can't I?

SMG2 will sell well, it may not reach SMG1 sales but still sell well. If Nintendo advertises it with bits from NSMBwii and show that players of NSMBWii need to play SMG2, then it will sell pretty well.
Nintendo will have learned a lot from SMG and NSMBW. They're probably going to introduce a more in-depth multiplayer element (making this a focal point of their ad campaigns) and try to bounce off the success of NSMB. Nintendo are getting better and better at marketing their new high-profile releases, so I wouldn't be surprised if this does a Halo/Kingdom Hearts/etc 2 and sells more than its predecessor.

It also had a pretty good difficulty level.

Kirby has a better chance to be released than a Yoshi Island D:

I want both games ;_;

Jesus Christ, already? Anyone know how its time compares to other games?

In all honesty, it's right up there with Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World.
And I am not joking. It's the first time I question my Super Mario top 3 since Super Mario World release.

Good for you, Nintendo, but this should've been on the DS as NSMB2.
What? Does the DS need as much help selling hardware or software? Uh, not that the Wii does, I suppose.

Hell, if anything this should have been on the PSP.

Edit:

Well, looks like it's not the opinion of most gamers. Having a 2D platformer on a console in 2009 is a feast. 10 millions of people see that.

Also doesn't prevent a futur portable Mario anyways. And if you don't have a Wii, please hurry up and buy.

Captured the pirates? All firmware versions were hacked on its release, and if one wasn't, it would have made pirates less likely to acquire the game...

No competition? The Wii has a ton of platformers unlike other systems, both retail and WiiWare. And yes, side scrolling platformers also.

I hope you haven't played Galaxy. But I guess that wouldn't count, since there's no question; Galaxy simply is your favourite Mario.

Not surprised. Simple game that casuals can pick up, but cores also love it. Like a Wii Sports and Galaxy combined is how I always thought of it. Universal appeal. It is selling a bit better than I expected, but not by too much.

(I was shocked by 4m Wii in Dec though :O)

If you take critics (Galaxy) and sales (NSMBW) out of the equation... I dunno... opinion seems pretty evenly split, at least according to GAF threads and those of other sites.

Good stuff.

I wish it would be an incentive for Ninty to make more where that come from, but oh well. :lol

Not sure how i feel about this. On one hand it's great, but on the other hand there are better Mario games that were more deserving of these kinds of numbers.

Good for Nintendo =)

That said, I still prefer Galaxy.

Galaxy gave me the feeling of being 5 years old again with its sometimes bouncy, sometimes beautiful soundtrack, great graphics, and amazing art style.

NSMBW gave me a bit of a been there, done that feeling, but the excellent level design gave it an almost Megaman 9-esque nostalgia vibe. I personally didn't like the soundtrack and the graphics looked like a slightly better DS version though.

Of course, that's just my opinion, and i'm sure that a lot of the 10 million people who have bought this game would probably disagree with me.

Not a surprise, especially if you were following sales numbers in the past two months.

I'm curious though, how does this compare with NSMB?

I'm left dumbfounded.

I found plenty of other titles I thought were better than NSMBWii and this still outsold all of them combined most likely.

You need to return to the official thread, my friend. That topic was more of a splooge-fest than Hugh Hefner's 50th birthday on acid filmed by an amateur Japanese porn director with a 10 minute deadline and a cast of young adults fresh out of boys school.

I'm too dumbfounded that your opinion isn't ordained by the masses.

Which official thread? Galaxy's? NSMBW wasn't out yet...

Since NSMBW's release, in these types of threads I seem to see one "meh NSMBW" post for every "best Mario ever" post... (for every "wut? nsmbw was better? you're insane" reply.)

Recently played Mario 2 FDS on the VC and had a lot of fun with it. I'm thinking about jumping into NSMB Wii, but considering that the last new release Mario game I played and loved was Mario world on SNES over a decade ago, is it good? Not really into the 3D Marios and missed out on the DS version, so I'm kinda keen on this.

Even if you take the harshest critiques at face value, according to them this game was made for you.

It was on that cool January morning that Dogenzaka discovered he was, in fact, not the main character of the universe.

He was later eaten by a grue.

Well deserved, one of my most enjoyable gaming experience I have ever had. Can't wait to play with my cousin and brothers in july- Bring back old memories.

I've only played the first few worlds with a few friends but how long on average would it take to beat?
