Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

Except by then 1070 owners will have gotten 2 years of fantastic performance out of their cards, and will be happy to upgrade. The Titan X came out just over a year ago.

There will be a new Titan soon and it will be as much faster than 1070/1080 as the current one was over 970/980. Not sure why this is bad or surprising.

Probably a dumb question, but if I was going to buy an FE card, is there really any difference in any of the ones from different manufacturers? I don't know nearly as much as I should about how this works.

Wtf newegg is now restricting orders from overseas, it's taking both 1070-80 from my cart when I try to order. I'm not paying bloody $780 for a mid range card.... Selling my 970 was such a shitty mistake.... :(

I personally went with the EVGA model because of the step up program, in case I want a better card down the line, it'll be cheaper to upgrade

These prices are obscene. I'm not paying more than the equivalent of $350.

I've got other more important things in my life to spend my coin on. Like we're thinking of getting a pet pig this summer, which can't be cheap either.

Yup. Nvidia still bullshittin. I really wanted one, but now...... Damnit.

Meh, fuck this. Im going to buy used or a new ATI(whenever the hell it comes out). Nvidia ain't getting a cent from me.

Crazy cos I sold my 980 early thinking these would be freely available kinda about now and that card would plummet in re-sale value. I got the money from selling it so I'm either going RX 480 or a cheaper AIB 1070.

Meh I was planning to swap to team green, but i kinda hoped for abit lower prices.
Got a 10% voucher for Ebay so I might still use it on a 1080, might be better bang for buck.

Lol I got one of those. I used it to pick up a second-hand GTX 960 for £112 total. That's on its way to tide me over until these prices normalize. The 750 Ti I'm currently rocking is being returned for a full refund.

Looks like the MSI Aero OC (which should actually be under $400) and Sea Hawk X may come sooner than expected. Amazon has pages up!

Stock seems a lot more abundant for the 1070 than it was for the 1080 at launch. I have faith.

Edit: Nvidia has the FE in stock again.

Wait are the MSI Gaming versions already going on sell?

Not yet, unfortunately. It'll probably be at least $470 anyway.

These are ugly as sin though. I've noticed nearly all the 1070/80 cards look pretty bad, reference and AIB. EVGA are usually sexy but their new designs are pretty terrible.

Well, one of those is basically a plastic reference card so you shouldn't expct much from it anyway. It's just meant to be cheap.

Don't know why people are being so indignant about the pricing... this is exactly what they said it was going to be when they announced it. If you don't want to pay a premium, just wait a bit.

the thing that's disappointing is that the majority of the partner cards will be over Founders pricing when the 1080 is the opposite

right now for the 1080 the only card that's higher than Founders pricing is the 1080 Gaming X from MSI...for the 1070 the only non-blower cards expected to be under Founders pricing are the ACX 3.0 and SC from EVGA at $420 and $440 (just $10 cheaper so almost a wash)...all of the other 1070 cards are expected to be $460+ if not $500

that's why I said the 1080 pricing seems fair in comparison to how they are doing the 1070

No, it's not what they said at launch. It's what you expected based on what they said.

To be fair, those are also the only cards with known pricing. There's still a chance that others will be cheaper.

Wait an item with low supply and high demand is being price gouged? What type of world are we living in??

I think anyone with a basic concept of economics knew this shit was gonna happen.

If this is how the market plays out, AMD could have a big win if they release an awesome $300-330ish card. If most decent cooler aftermarket cards are going to be $440+, that is pricing themselves out of the sub $350 market that the 970 sold a ton at.

1070: 529€ here, and 1080 is 709€.
Can't believe I was hyped to pick one for 399€, this is how dreams die. Even when the Founders Editions are replaced it'll still be like 459-499€.

Has anyone who purchased one from Nvidia recieved a shipping confirmation? I paid for 10am arrival and it dang well better be here.

I'm in the UK, any idea how much more expensive is the FE card Nvidia are selling going to be compared to the non-FE edition? It's £399 on their website.

edit: Ah ok, it'll be £320.

So, as I understand it, the only reason to buy a 1070 now is if you're impatient? As in, the FE is actually only superficially different from the partner cards which will launch later?

Yeah it's literally just an early adopter's tax.

I'll be waiting for the MSI Aero model, if that comes in at $380-$400 I'll bite.

Give it a month for the prices to settle down. The 970 was the popular card and card makers are probably marking it as such. The 1070 is exactly what I thought would happen when you make the founders more expensive, i.e. Higher prices on better performing cards. The $379 is the bullshit entry level like the 16gb iPhone that nobody buys. Hope we get lucky and can get something decent like an asus strix or gigabyte g1 for $400 in a month.

I grabbed one of these off newegg for a friend (I got a 980ti) it shipped and should be here by Wednesday. I am personally waiting for the 1080ti... It should destroy this card...

Newegg had me nervous since they were about an hour behind nvidia.

As someone who bought a 1070 a couple hours ago, here's how I see it: new technology is always coming out, and stuff is always getting faster and cheaper. If you buy a 1070 FE now, you're getting substantially more performance per dollar than if you'd bought a 980 TI a month ago.

(And, in my case, I'm starting my first job after college in a few weeks, so this may be one of the last times in my life that I have this much free time. Would rather get my new card when I still have lots of time to play games.)

I just grabbed the EVGA founders edition off NCIX. I had an ancient gift card from an old purchase lying around that saved me the shipping insurance too !

With GST and and everything it wasn't much more then the 390X I grabbed a little while ago to tide me over.

I really did want a 1080 but the cheapest one is 829.99 canadian and I'm on a 1080p (3D... that I barely use) monitor for the near term so I just couldn't justify spending the extra 210$ (minimum). Leaves me open to upgrade in another couple years I suppose.

Only shame is that my card probably won't show up until next thursday or friday ... but I have to say I'm curious to return to team green and finally check out all those nvidia exclusive features I've missed out on in roughly half the games out there :P

So are non-FE 1070's ever going to actually be at Nvidia's suggested non-FE MSRP?

Seeing those benchmarks and still playing Witcher 3 on my 760 is just painful. I'm not even getting DOOM until I can upgrade.

My kingdom for a MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X. I can't wait for july / august. Hopefully in that time there will be more stock and lower prices.

What's bad about that?

Nothing. I'm just warning you that they'll be blowers and won't have cooling as good as actual custom cards. That's basically an FE with a plastic shroud. If that doesn't matter you and you just want the card it's a good buy. Going from a 760, even a stock 1070 will more than double your performance.
