The cotext is the same. I punished someone for acting like a fool.
and Obama said the statements were misguided and Wright is no longer an official part of the campaign. that's not punishment?

People love using words like "force". There is nothing forced or to be forced here. Nobody should have to be forced to do anything. I simply said, "I would like to see more diversity in games". And when I said that, GAF went haywire. I almost got laughed out the goddamn thread. Comments like: "A Mexican in Gears of War would be ridiculous!!" Not realizing that Dom Santiago is a hispanic character.

So from going by the reactions in a stupid forum about a stupid game, and going by how EVERYBODY is blowing this whole Obama pastor thing WAY out of proportion now that they finally have some kind of excuse, how do you expect me to believe that America has any intentions on seeing him as the next US president?

As he stated in his speech yesterday, he can no sooner dismiss his black pastor for saying what he has said as he can dismiss his white grandmother for her racial remarks. But America doesn't want to hear that. They have closed their ears and have opened their mouths for blood, which is exactly what they have wanted from day one.

Obama has been led on, and so have we.

its clear that since he knew wright was controversial he should have disowned him before he started running for president.
cause being fake is so much more presidential
he now can only do one thing. drop out of the race. its rough but its what he must do.

But that is a telling point. Why wasn't Huckabee raked over the coals by the media for his comments, and he's the actual candidate?

I think it's because he's not an angry, black man personally.

I think he would have been if he became the nominee. Just like the NY Times waited for McCain to become the nominee before running their smear. Huckabee would have been buried if he had gotten the nomination. I feel that he was being propped up by the media throughout the primary. Having said this, I admit that I am probably being at least a little paranoid (I was a Romney supporter).

The only people blowing this out of porpotion is obama/hillary supporters. Reps don't give a shit, they'll wait til general.

And are you really using a dumb comment about this videogame industry to measure the american people. Good god, you aren't even sure of all of those people are american.

Your attitude is the reason why obama will lose. It's hard to fight for change when you think the people you need to work with are in some big conspiracy to just work you over.

maybe we need to push black people in terms of race relations, if my people are this weak-willed and hopeless.

Er....have you listened to anything on FOX or Hannity?:P

I think you'll see that "conservative" pundits are devouring this and spewing it back in peoples' faces. Hannity himself has dedicated the past 3 shows on the radio to 3 hours of playing Wright's sermons and telling people that Obama has never loved America.

1. fox news.

2. most reps went crazy and got banned

3. using an experience on gaf and video games clearly shows the beneath the surface, sub conscious rasicm. like how you rarely see movies or tv shows with mixed race couples. though in the last 5-10 years we have seen a uptick in minorities and mixed races getting prominent spots in movies and shows.

4. reality to those of us who have experienced the subtle racism and reaction over this issue brings up deep seeded doubts about this country. Out support will not lessen or our enthusiasm leave us. But that reality of the world we live in will always be there. and a part of obama's speech was explaining that people need to realize its still there. and won't be fixed tomm or this election cycle. But we will perfect this union.

Why? Are you insinuating that black men who have those names are some how denegrated more than others?

I don't know what he was trying to say, but I certainly think such is the case. Some Afro-centric names are denigrated amongst other black people, so it seems reasonable that if they aren't even fully accepted in the black community that others would have a similar reaction.

I'm saying people wouldn't vote for someone named Jamall or Leroy.

Yeah because they haven't made fun of the name 'Obama.'

There are not roll-eyes big enough to be found on the internet to match your comments.

Don't know if this is old news, but I just saw a poll on MSNBC that was conducted pre-race speech that said that only 16% of Democrats had a less than favorable view of Obama after hearing Wright's comments. I don't remember the exact numbers but I think 31% of independents had a less than favorable view, and of course Republicans were a lot more offended. So it's certainly not the end of his primary campaign, especially because this poll was taken before the speech and he possibly won some Dems and Indepents back. It will definitely be a factor in November if he's the nominee, but like Huckabee said (can't believe I'm agreeing with him), it's only March so it's better that it happened now.

:lol Don't even get me started on that. I can't remember the last time I opened my mouth or unmuted my own headset while playing on Live. I usually don't even bother to put it on. On top of this, I changed my gamertag because I used to use my real name, which is Japanese. So even though I didn't speak, I still got the racial remarks.

Ironically, Obama *NOT* acting like a politician when confronted with this scandal might be the cause of his falling. The good news though is that if he overcomes this while still maintaining his dignity and principles, it'll possibly clean up politics in general. Maybe lessen the effects of smear campaigns in general.

To you maybe. A lot of people I have talked to found it pompous. Especially the "A different generation" remark becuase that doesn't fly very well if your stupid.

Fixed.

Look I'm white as a sheet, and I realize, that's probably the most important part of the speech, it basically says, "Look Racism has changed, one party isn't down with another on top, we are all sitting on the other side of the fence from each other too afriad to talk." It's about the changing nature of racism in america from outright oppression to divisiveness. That's something that should resonate with everyone as long as they can hear the message.

The name "Jamal" on a resume doesn't help his chances much. The tragic part of this is that people really have to consider names as an important factor in affecting how their kids will be treated by society. If your name identifies you with a certain race you're SOL. I have a friend who made sure his kids would not be affected by this. Daughter named Zoe and son name Cody. He and his wife are both AA.

I think everyone here is making this too complicated (those who are honestly interested in the topic anyway).

If anything, it has enhanced my support for the man.

Why?

Well, simply because he has spoke (and spoke passionately) about a topic that most people in the political realm (be it actual politicians or the media) are too afraid to talk about. Most people play it safe and give the de facto PC robot response on the issue, and this of course, doesn't exactly propel things forward, and never will.

At the very least, we have a chance to vote in a new President who not only isn't afraid to tackle the inconvenient, risky and difficult issues facing us, but who has done so already, with proof now on the table.

I see what your saying, and I do understand why they would do that. But I don't agree with it. After slavery, black people who looked white would alter their documents so they could get jobs and be treated as a privellaged white person. They called this "passing". Zoe and Cody are the whitest names you can find. Kyle, Halie, ect... If the reason your friends named their kids these names is to blend in with white America, they have basically "passed" off their kids as being white. On paper anyway.

Yeah no shit man. After the race for the nomination thus far, anyone thats denying his efforts to address the issue of race is mindwarped. I give him props for having the balls to talk about something that everyone else is afraid to talk about. He's the positively polar opposite of our current negative president in that respect.

I'm not saying it's the right thing to do or the wrong thing to do, but it is one of those choices you have to make as a parent. The reality is that something as simple as a name can have a major impact on your life (yes I know people also give their kids obnoxious names as well). Their view is that they are protecting their kids and giving them opportunities that they might otherwise not have. Some people may think that selling out and giving into fears of racism. There are many sides to the argument but on this one I agree with him. You would not be able to classify my daughter based on her name either.

What the hell? It has nothing to do with many videogame designers being white. it has nothing to do with many cg artists being white. Why aren't black people making indie games of youtube tv shows. Who is stopping that?

or are black people just not doing anything in the industry, and blaming white/asian people for not representing them?

Black people aren't represented in games, because they are not making them. That is not evidence of subconscious racism among 18-35 American consumers.

When XNA comes out, when wiiware hits, etc etc and console games are more approachable by the everday black and white guy, what will the excuse be then when black people still aren't main characters in these indie games?

A perfected union means joining with white people, right? Saying young Americans are racist because of xbox live or whatever is not the best place to start, and just proves my point earlier. Obama did the right thing, but his followers are going to fuck it up

Thanks a lot

Why do Japanese games (and anime) star white people?

Would you believe that I have heard it's because the US won WW2 and bombed Japan with atomic weapons.

This idea seems to carry fair weight amongst Japanese psychologists.

I... I just don't know myself...

for one, many of them are not white. Especially final fantasy.

However their manga and anime is heavily influenced by the comic books that American soldiers had during japan's occupation. A large part of pop culture in japan can be traced back to the comic books that touched Japaneses culture during the 50's.

I thought this was common knowledge.

Fox news is a conservative news network, not a republican one. Are you saying John McCain isn't republican becuase Fox News didn't endorse 2 times. is Ron paul now a democrat.

What do you also say to the libertarians who condemn Fox news, like southpark republicans and young republicans

Are your views on politics that shallow?

wow, i just looked through the forum at Hannity's website and there are a lot of nut jobs in there.

a lot of people in there are saying obama is a racist because he has associated with people with racist ideals.

if they held every politician to this standard, they should hate all politicians. :lol

When was the last time you saw a blonde haired blue eyed Japanese person? They are usually supossed to be a hybrid of Japanese and white.

I don't believe that FOX news is conservative at all, I believe they are Republican. And I think you actually proved my own point with the whole John McCain/Ron Paul thing.

Again though, the FOX was brought up because you for some reason said that only Hillary/Obama supporters cared.
