Oblivion vs Skyrim soundtrack?

Does anyone else like the soundtrack from Oblivion better then Skyrim?

I think its much better then Skyrim and sounds way more pleasant and uplifting.

Nah. Oblivion's OST is not particularly memorable IMO. I kind of blanked it out actually, while I still remember pieces from Morrowind and especially Skyrim. Even relistening to them via these links (Watchman's Ease)...It's still boring IMO.

Listened to a couple others...still a big meh.

Skyrim's OST has been one of the few OSTs hat I've consistently returned to. For me it easily trumps the others. From the Dragon chant mixed in with The Elder Scrolls theme (Ninevar Rising) to the tavern inn music. It all brings a flurry of memories and emotions.

Morrowind>Skyrim>Oblivion

Oblivion had a few good tracks like the title screen and harvest dawn, but lacked good atmospherics or combat music.

Morrowind still has the best soundtrack and I personally think Oblivion and Skyrim's memorable tracks are ones that are from or riff off the ones from Morrowind. I always smile when I hear this one song in Skyrim because of the many, many times I've heard it in one of my many playthroughs as the Nerevarine.

I think Jeremy Soule kicked it out of the park with the Skyrim rendition of the Elder Scrolls theme though. Simply amazing.

The OST for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim all are great.

The critical thing I would to point out is all three OST's are composed in a manner that feel appropriate to their respective setting.

Morrowind felt foreign and alien, but in a majestic and humble way. And you also got the vibe of the Imeprial presence in Morrowind.

Oblivion felt very familiar in its fantasy setting. And you knew you were in the heart of the Empire.

Skyrim had a very mighty and sorrowful feeling to it.

I think Oblivion's OST is the most forgetable because the music is very standard fantasy.

Jeremy Soule really is a fantastic composer. Regret backing his kickstarter, but he's an insane composer, so what can you expect.

Morrowind is definitely one of my favorite soundtracks ever, I just started playing Dragonborn for the first time and was just sitting there almost in tears at the flashbacks. The perfect soundtrack to fit Morrowind's mystical, alien, cultured atmosphere.

Thank you for bringing up Oblivion's music, I think it's been somewhat forgotten and it's just as good as his other works. Definitely check out what he did for Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 if you haven't, it's all beautiful.

It might be nostalgia but Oblivion's tracks resonate with me more. Skyrim was good but Oblivion's overworld tracks are amazing.

I love Jeremy Soule. I absolutely love the man. However, other than the main theme, Oblivion's score just wasn't memorable. Skyrim's I remember much more. However, Morrowind is the absolute best of the Elder Scrolls scores.

BUT.......

I think his scores for Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 beat all of his Elder Scrolls work.

I agree with you op. Oblivion has the all around better soundtrack while skyrim has a few truly stoundout songs. Skyrims best i think is better than oblivions best, but with the whole work taken into account, Oblivion wins.

Oblivion for me. Great exploration tracks. I prefer the main theme of Morrowind. Skyrim has good music too, fits the setting well, but for me it didn't have that "play the damn piano more often" call like Oblivion. I hope J.S. will compose for TES VI too. I'm very eager to see how would he tackle the sounds of Argonia or Elsweyr.

Yeah defo loved Oblivion's setting and sound track the most out of the 3. Yes this makes me a leper.

It just did pastoral, quiet, calm, so well. It was a beautiful thing honestly. And yes it was Tolkienesque, but was an awesome Tolkienesque thing where the mages' guild was the local pharmacy in the little English village, and it was wonderful.

Also best opening theme by far. It's a lot better than Dragonborn

Skyrim had a few standouts, but overall Oblivion was more consistent and the exploration tracks were simply amazing. Morrowind of course has the best of the 3.

I feel like such a pleb saying this, but I actually preferred Skyrim's OST. For me a lot the tracks that play when you're just out and about in the world at night are among the best in gaming. But I've always found subtle background music to be more memorable than main themes.

This is probably one of my favorites in games in general.

I guess I'm weird.

I love both. Happily there is a mod where you can put Oblivions (and Morrowind) soundtrack into Skyrim, so a win all round. Peace of Akatosh from Oblivion is why I will always love Oblivions soundtrack.

For my money it's Skyrim by a good margin, but I did enjoy Oblivion's OST for what it was.

Morrowind.

I'm beginning to think that it physically hurts some Elder Scrolls fans if they pay Skyrim or Oblivion a compliment and don't immediately add the caveat that they still think Morrowind is better. It's especially funny here since the OP is asking which soundtrack was superior between Oblivion and Skyrim specifically. Morrowind wasn't even mentioned.

Oblivion! The title screen music is so amazing and gives a huge sense of adventure and all the other themes are soooo good and memorable.

I still remember the first time Far Horizons came on with the sun rising over the big smokey mountain in Skyrim. One of the most awe inspiring beautiful moments I ever had in a game.

Oblivion I didn't have chill inducing memorable moment like that. Still a great soundtrack.

Nothing from Skyrim really stuck with me like Oblivion's tracks did. Oblivion has some really really good town music. Watchman's Ease and Dusk at the Market are a couple of favorites. Had some great ambient exploration stuff too. Just made the world feel so much more magical and awesome to be in.

Skyrim does have great stuff too, I just don't recall it as well.

Dang. Now I'm listening to the soundtrack and feeling a wave of emotions. The game was just so memorable for me.

I wish Oblivion was remastered with some balancing tweaks...

With all of the great games coming out I know I won't have time to go back and revisit it, but man this thread reminded me of it and it's going to bug the heck out of me.

That's definitely a GREAT song that fits with the mood and tone of the game. Good example!

Both are great, but I like Oblivion's a bit more. Oblivion has the better city music for sure.

One song/experience I remember the most is hearing Peace of Akatosh when it was dark out, and all you hear is the wind brushing through the foliage.

Such a beautiful atmosphere.

Both are good though, The Streets of Whiterun is beyond beautiful.

I spent hundreds of hours in each game, and I honestly don't think I could pick most of the world themes out.

All I know is that Skyrim's version of the Elder Scrolls theme is better.

I find them both utterly vanilla porridge fantasy soundtracks with nothing distinctive about them bar the familiar opening theme. The ultimate in background music.

Oblivion, easily.

The only song I can even remember from Skyrim is the main theme with the chanting, and even that is pretty forgettable. I can still remember all the town themes and tranquil music from Oblivion as well as most of the combat ones.

The main theme is pretty great too but Morrowind wins that one with how great its climax is.

Prefer skyrim main theme, but as far as ambient music goes Oblivion.
Main theme Morrowind = Skyrim > Oblivion.
Ingame music Oblivion > Morrowind > Skyrim

Yeah I think Skyrim background music is quite forgettable, unlike Oblivion's.
