Oculus' Palmer Luckey funds white-supremacist/misogynistic/anti-lgbt harassment group

It might be a good time to re-evaluate things.

- Trump's political career is owed to leading a racist conspiracy theory for almost a decade to 'other' the first black President.

- Trump's introduction to the public eye was due to being sued for discrimination against black people, he took out a full page ad in the paper during calling for the execution of kids accused of a crime (4 black, 1 hispanic), is quoted as saying 'laziness is a trait in blacks', and the list goes on.

- White supremacist groups have rallied behind Trump, and consider Trump a savior for their movement. They see Trump's political career as mainstreaming the white supremacist ideology.

- He called for a ban on all Muslim immigrants and suggested they carry an ID that identifies them as Muslim.

- He called for the use nationally of stop and frisk, a notorious bigoted policy that overwhelmingly targets black people.

- Trump and his family repeatedly re-tweet white supremacist tweets. Seriously this has happened many times since he announced his candidacy.

- Trump relies on a smorgasbord of bigoted political rhetoric and blatantly racist rhetoric on a regular basis, including suggesting a judge recuse himself due to his heritage.

A few highlights.

This, spot on.

Trump and his candidacy should honestly be made out to be a complete and utter disgrace. Because honestly it is. That a man with his views, "policies", and drives could become a contender for the Presidency should be heavily frowned upon in this day and age.

At this point, looking the other way and voting for him because he isn't Hillary or because you agree with his stance on taxes is highly irresponsible. Republicans should have acted and removed him as a possibility from the very beginning, but instead caved.

He should never have even once been ignored, thought of as innocent fun, thought of as incapable of getting this far, dismissed by opponents, and supported "for the Lols" (which was NEVER funny, NEVER cute, NEVER safe. I don't care how ridiculous he was to watch. He's a madman.)

There is absolutely no way he should ever be considered seriously for office.

I truly believe he will lose in November, and I sincerely hope that this election stands as a massive wake up call for this country.

Pretty much this. It's unfortunate that someone like Trump has obtained so much traction, but let's not kid ourselves. The alternative is not much better ( if at all really ) ...

I can't say I agree for calling for this guy's head for his political views though. No matter how indifferent you feel about them.

That being said, I'm not very educated on this movement he's trying to push here.
It's a white supremacist movement that is spreading it's message through internet memes. He is funding a hate movement.

His girlfriend, who's Twitter has just been deleted, was full of hate speech.

Luckey has liked and retweeted several racist posts on his Twitter account.

Palmer's statement on this is totally going to be about freedom of speech, calling it now.
And about how bad it is to label people as racists just because they support and give money to racists.

Yes, the alternative isn't much better if you're a middle class white dude who isn't affected by any hate speech in the first place. And also are looking forward to WW3. And hate your fellow man.

If you want to fund satirical hit pieces then fine. It's perfectly reasonable to think that he could do just that through other avenues, he's entitled to it. To approach /r/the_donald and ask for their help explicitly in pushing his ideas was braindead stupid by any measure.

I was talking about a poster who said something sarcastic. I never said anything about Luckey in this thread until my last post which specified I think he isn't being satirical and only mentioned it at all because someone replied to something I said possibly thinking I was talking about Luckey.

I am sympathetic to the argument that Clinton is a moderate who mostly represents the status quo. Still, don't you see a problem here? You don't know what the movement is but you do think it's the same as Clinton's?

I disagree here. I'm not a huge Hillary fan but she's a much better alternative to Trump. For starters, she's actually qualified to be President. I think people are vastly underestimating the amount of damage Trump can do to this country and the world if he gets in a position of actual power.

lol wut

I'm not high on Hilary but this is a silly statement.

I knew very little of Luckey other than a few quotes and pictures; can't help feeling a bit smug that my "ignorant douche" radar was blipping all along, Hehe.

Actually, going back and looking now. Her entire Twitter is gone: https://twitter.com/nikkimoxxi

Palmer's likes and other pages are still there though.

I apologize for not taking screenshots earlier. I am at work and didn't think this would actually spill out that far.
I half-expect them to run with a Milo narrative where they were driven out by PC culture and libruls trampling their free speech, while an asshole billionaire scoffs and jumps in to defend them.

r/the_donald is not the campaign. Go read what are considered acceptable posts by the community there and tell us it isn't a hate group. Much like /pol/ the overton window there has shifted so far that it fully encompases white nationalism.
I didn't know the terminology for this concept, but honestly even the campaign itself has massively shifted that window already and popularized notions that had to be implied so far.
I'm not saying Trump's campaign is equal to these crazy online spaces, but iif this campaign is indicative of where mainstream GOP discourse is headed, I'd say these places aren't an unbelievable asymptote.

It doesn't take much to educate yourself. It's racism. I'm sure you're familiar with what that is. If you don't tolerate it...don't vote for him. It's easy. His whole campaign is built on it.

But...I don't know how you could think the opposite is just as bad if you admit to not knowing enough.

Edit...Oh Luckey...well he supports the guy I'm talking about.

I am perplexed that some people needed to be brought up to speed on Trump. Does this mean had there not been a thread on the gaming side about Luckey, some people would never really learn anything about this dangerous, moronic man?

I only like video games, I try to stay away from politics. I'm too woke to care.

Appreciate you posting this list. I will be researching this further as well as some of the other things ive read. It would not be possible for to support someone who has those outlooks.

I never would have imagined that any of those things I listed could allow someone to be a candidate for President, much less all of them.

I'm really disappointed in this news personally, he's the most visible VR innovator to me and someone I feel has a big part to play in mainstreaming what I feel is hugely important technology. Bankrolling anything pro-Trump, alt right or gamergate is disgusting.

Gaming is as much of a form of escapism as anything else. I'd wager you have a fair amount of people who play games as a way to escape the world, whether because they're being mistreated by it, or because they are "tired" of hearing people complaint.

So yeah, I would not be shocked if many people on the gaming side had no idea what was really happening with the US election (notwithstanding those who are just outside the US who, while thanks to the media probably have "some" exposure to it, wouldn't be really expected to know the deep minutia of the Trump campaign)

Not everyone on here is American.

A few highlights.

I thoroughly dislike Trump, but none of this matters. A Clinton supporter doesn't need to stand behind or agree with everything Clinton has ever done or been suspected of doing. Being Republican doesn't make you a white supremacist and that reductionist way of thinking only hurts discourse. I'm sure most 'Trump supporters' want anyone -but- Trump as their standard bearer. But that doesn't mean they want to vote Democrat or have Clinton in office.

I'm not affiliated to either party. I think we have a shambles of an election this year, and both candidates approach my 'worst case scenario ever'. But it doesn't mean I think every Trump supporter is a racist, nor every Clinton supporter is the various things they're called.

We could make just as damning a list against Clinton for the things she's done. They might not be as vile in that specific way [ie, racist], but they are just as damning in other ways.

There's nothing concrete about Trump'a platform besides the discrimination though. So in this case, I really think it matters.

I see, but... Why weren't they called out before all this? What was she tweeting? Do you have any links to said hate memes he was behind?

Sorry for all the questions, but if that's a "clear case" for spreading hate, than yes, Facebook has a case for termination of employment. (Oculus as well maybe)?

How nice of you to say outright white supremacism and putting on the forefront of politics doesn't matter.

I still don't really get it. Surely he knew the outcome and what kind of trouble would come with it. Especially since Zuckerberg is so outspoken against Trump.
When you are 24 with a boat load of money and free time on the internet, armed with some highly misguided views, it's pretty easy to get up to some bad shit.

The only solid stances Trump has had is racism and bigotry, if they are not supporting that, then what are they supporting?

F*** these twits. I seriously wonder how much more devs are going to drop them. I wish Insomniac could but I have a feeling they're in some sort of contract with Oculus.

How can a guy that works in the Cali tech area and comes into work in flip-flops and surfer clothes be alt-right?

Now I have to completely rethink my stereotype of them.

Palmer Luckey has 48.4K followers on Twitter. It will be interesting to track that number over the comings days.

Silicon valley is like the capital of rich white libertarianism that evolves into the alt-right.

Hillary not at all better than Trump? Do explain the mental gymnastics required to arrive to this "conclusion".

his girlfriend was a full on gamergater there's no way she could have deleted all of the awful tweets quickly enough.

That's why she went scorched earth. Of course GamerGate is using this to say she was harassed off Twitter when there was no such thing. It was just a mad panicked dash to remove incriminating tweets off her feed.

I wondered how can a woman be a GamerGater? I guess we both need to adjust our expectations a bit :)

You can not vote at all instead of voting in a racist who's only platform is racism. Who also has a bigot as a VP and other people on his team who believes minorities have always had the same chance at life as whites.

Stop with this argument. We've seen other Republicans say they aren't supporting trump. People who were in the race with him. Others can make that same choice.

You can just picture the Facebook lawyers scurrying around, and dealing with this in a panic after they found out in the morning.
