ok buddy how about you shut up

How easy is it to just not be an asshole on Twitter and hire someone to take care of PR?

I have no earthly idea why developers/creators answer questions on Twitter. It never ends well.

No, it includes the VAT/custom already. The tweet just shows that Palmer doesn't know how customs work.

What if customs doesn't stop your packet? Yoy pay a tax as well?

Amazon for example takes a money in advance for possible customs fees and they return the rest of the money.

The "oh shit this is VR and it's awesome" feeling early on is absolutely there with all the main players. However, as someone who's had a DK1 since launch and a DK2 since launch and who has used everything else available since, that feeling alone doesn't keep the headset on you. Don't get me wrong, PSVR is a lot of fun and totally worthwhile and Sony looks like it's backing it solidly with software development too, and I could see myself playing through games on it, no question. It's obviously a more budget minded solution, and the capabilities reflect that, but it's still cool and will be worth buying. The cost of entry for people who don't already have high end gaming PCs but have a PS4 will be hilariously, astronomically different. By all means, get a PSVR instead.

But, after the "OMG THIS IS VR" fades to the background, as it has for me a long time since, I can barely be assed to even put a Samsung Gear VR on my head. The only thing I'm still actually craving is more time on the consumer Rift with high fidelity gaming experiences. I want to plug it into Assetto Corsa and grind on the Nurburgring and feel what I've felt in real life there in ways that are impossible on my 80" tv. I want more experiences like Edge of Nowhere. The Rift captivates on a different level.

Okay, now you're just hyping me for Rift; like my body isn't ready for VR and you're making it sounds like it stilk won't be ready when I play/buy PSVR and the desire for more will be genuinely there. Is Rift that big of a difference compared to PSVR in terms of putting 'reality' in Virtual Reality?

That's it. It's all over. The first iteration of VR is moderately expensive. It's doomed.

These type of comments are laughable, people can't be this short sighted can they?

You underestimate god crazy cheap people on this forum are. Look at the Xbox Elite controller threads.

Meaning? Are you acting like EviLore is some kind of authority on VR?
There's plenty of impressions of PSVR out there. Nearly all of them extremely positive. That's all i'm saying.

I'm sure a lot of of those extremely positive reactions were first time VR experiences.

Anyone know if Oculus is having a live press conference from CES today?

I can't seem to find any info about that anywhere.

This makes a lot of sense to me and was something I was wondering. I haven't been able to try any of the VR headsets and so I didn't know if just the experience in of itself would keep pulling me back in time and time again regardless of a lot of varied software. Just like everything though you still need a compelling reason.

Everyone is expecting a cheap VR system that has been in Dev for like 4 years to be like 300 and 400 bucks....dont think so. would I rather of paid cheaper of course anyone would have but if you want the experience its cost money. Plus he said you need a high end PC from the start.

Oculus should hire you as a spokesperson, dang. You basically may have sold me on this sooner than later. Might have to put psvr on the backburner.

Have you tried the Vive? How does it compare?

He must have gotten a wave of pre-orders if he makes fun of Europeans just like that. Good way to isolate what could be the biggest market (Europe) to look cool. Now all HTC and Sony have to do is making sure that they don't price their headsets for more than 600 Euros to make Oculus not even remotely competitive in Europe.

What kind of lemon-stand business is he running? Why not get a proper Eu branch. First of all you would save on shipping by shipping from Europe. It would also arrive faster. Secondly, you would avoid import taxes that are usually 30% as opposed to 20% VAT.

I blame you (Palmer) for not understanding how every other company branches into European markets.

So Palmer Luckey is basically going Full Mattrick on people complaining about the price of the Rift internationally.

That's some fantastic marketing there.

What exactly is making him look like an asshole here? Being transparent about pricing is like the opposite of being an asshole.

You have to assume at some point Oculus will find it's way to distributors in Europe and then you won't have to pay customs.

well...
Responding to a question about why he made the jump to Oculus, Planck described a consumer model falling in the 300-400 dollar price range and was quoted saying, “Plus, May is getting close.”

Well... I would have been pleasantly suprised at $399, would have begrudgingly preordered at $499, but at $599 I was successfully able to back out of my preorder at the last minute, take a deep breath, and wait. If everyone is raving about it in March, I may put money down then. That was a close one. Didn't really need to spend that money right now anyway.

This guy is kind of a dick, huh?

Kind of?
Well, if we are to blame our countries, why is Oculus charging us more out of the gate (£500 or €700), if VAT is not included? Shouldn't the price then be just an exchange rate equivalent?

So, no, we should blame him, he deserves all the crap he can get.

On my DK2, from a purely polished visual immersion standpoint, I think Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Project Carts and Elite: Dangerous probably give a good idea of how awesome a VR experience can potentially be - and those are all tacked on VR experiences. I can only imagine the possibilities of big budgeted experiences designed from the ground up with VR in mind.

Right, but the whole point of the 'VR revolution' was to make it affordable to the point that people would even want to have this first experience.

At least that's how it was marketed on Kickstarter. It's morphed into something completely different since then.

are we expecting amazon orders to go live today? they sure are late if so.

oculus.com wants $33 alone just for shipping... LOL no.

Well, too bad. I expect a stupidly inflated price in Euros and that's quite a bit more than I'm willing to pay. I'll need to see what these VR units can do before I decide.

Show me

I'm just doing a comparison about the cost and expected performance of PSVR and Oculus. Don't pay much attention it since I have little knowledge about PCs and VR.
Wait until they are both out.
Try them both, if possible.
Decide which one you want and how much you want them based on how much they cost you.

It's true though. The PSVR won't match up to the Rift, because of the hardware and the budget.

The question is how much different the experience will be. Obviously the resolution is lower, and most games will be running at 60 and reprojected at 120hz. But will people still feel presence? Will the move controllers still give you the sense that you can manipulate the 3D space in front of you?

So um I can't seem to find any trace of my order other than seeing it go through and picking the option to be notified about the controller. What should I do?
