I'm speechless. I mean the guy can pitch but our organization needs another quality bat. The guy wants to go to medical school and has something like a 20 million dollar inheritance coming his way. Fuckin' hell.

That dude is like the DB in the NFL Draft who was a 1st rounder but every team passed on because his knee is being held together by toothpicks and dryer lint. Wasn't drafted until the 3rd round LOL.

Does anyone else hate when they show the strike zone on live ESPN games? It's really annoying.
... you're the only one. Do you have a family member who is an MLB umpire by chance?

Never change Mariners.

Cause his medicals might be borked?

Why is everyone else passing on him?

Who has Jack Z and his scouts picked in the past first rounds ...

Prince Fielder
Rickie Weeks
Mark Rodgers
Ryan Braun
Matt LaPorta
Jeremy Jeffries
Brett Lawrie
Dustin Ackley & Nick Franklin

Boy they must be retarded huh?

Haha no, I do not. I mean, I like it when they might show the strike zone in the corner after a controversial pitch but since umpire's words are steel, showing the zone on every pitch is pointless and distracting.

I'm on ESPN DraftCast... ANSWER MY QUESTION BOWDEN!!!

EDIT:
Kevin Goldstein:
The question is how for Rendon drops, but related to that, is how does it effect Bubba Starling?
Good point.

EDIT 2: Bowden assures me Rendon won't drop past Nats.

because the M's need a bat, and besides Bundy and bauer were still on the board.

They probably want someone close to the majors. While I do agree with you in taking Bauer before Hultzen however.

I don't know man. I'm not paid to do this shit. Maybe they plan on drafting bats the rest of the way ... I don't fucking know ... or play the free agency market ..... bleh.

Ugh, so boring to wait until 13. MLB needs to take NFL Draft's example.

Damn shame Duane Cunningham isn't posting. One of the few Royals fans I know, they got your hometown boy.

Nice local pick for the royals.

I mean it's not a terrible pick, but there were better options imo. From what I've heard, Bundy is way ahead of the curve when it comes to his development. They say he's closer to a college pitcher than a hs pitcher.

Yeah I know man. I dunno. We'll see. They grabbed the best left hander in the draft to go behind the two righties in Felix and Pineda I guess?

Its hard to be pissed about a lefty who struck out 366 in 298 innings.

I bet Arizona at 7 grabs Rendon.

Comment From William
If Nats take Rendon, do they move him to 2B to not bump Zimmerman?

Kevin Goldstein:
I don't know ANYBODY who thinks Rendon can play up the middle as a pro.

Blehz.

I bet Arizona at 7 grabs Rendon.

The 2011 season has been as much about the 6-foot-3, 200-pound Hultzen as it has about the Cavaliers. He has played key roles as both a pitcher and hitter, making him a leading candidate for national player of the year, and attracted droves of scouts to every game he has pitched.

An unsigned 10th-rounder in the 2008 draft, Hultzen has not only witnessed his team’s amazing success first hand over the last three years, but has played as big a role in it as anyone. He dominated as a freshman for the Cavaliers, going 9-1, 2.17 with 107 strikeouts in 95 innings. Like his team, though, he has only continued to get better over his next two years. As a sophomore, Hultzen went 11-1, 2.78 with 123 strikeouts in 107 innings. In his first 96 innings this season, he was 10-3, 1.59 with 16 walks and 136 strikeouts. He has also swung the bat at a .305-1-29 clip.

Not coincidentally, Hultzen has made a significant upgrade in his stuff and command over three seasons. His fastball, 89-92 mph earlier in his career, is now a consistent 95-96. His curve and slider have become more-refined secondary pitches. His pitchability, always the key to his game, has become more refined than ever this season.

Doesn't sound horrible.

Yeah Starling isn't gonna go to college.

Hopefully not! They were putting out a lot of pub that he was real interested in getting a degree and going to Nebraska. Hopefully it was just push for more money talk

Could be all the reports of Bundy telling some teams not to select him cause of his long toss program and the M's could have been one of those teams.

I know a scouting director who predicted that pick on April 9th. No joke. #shouldhavelistened [via Twitter]

Jim Bowden:
Danny Hultzen is close to the big leagues....gives them a lefty behind King Felix and Pineda....knows how to pitch 11-3....6-2 195 Fastball in mid 90's
7:15

Kevin Goldstein:
This is a real shock folks. Hultzen is an outstanding left-hander who has a chance to reach the big leagues faster than any player in this draft.

Next pick will be Trevor Bauer, UCLA. [via Twitter]

Comment From Peter
Hultzen in that park is gonna be awesome but according to my twitter feed, the "whoa"s have it
7:15

Jim Bowden:
I agree with Kevin G on Hultzen....maybe June of next year?
7:16

Kevin Goldstein:
Like Keith says, that pick all but guarantees Bauer to Arizona at 3.
7:16

Comment From Gene Mullett
How low does Rendon fall now?
7:16

Kevin Goldstein:
I'll tell you Jim, if it was faster than that, it would not shock me. No pitcher in this draft nearly as polished. He not only throws strikes with all of his arsenal, he throws GOOD strikes.
7:17

Jim Bowden:
I would take Rendon and Bundy over Bauer......but I think Keith is right that AZ will take Bauer

How far Rendon falls is now the million dollar question. Also, my mock is now a mess. [via Twitter]

Comment From Andrew in Lincoln
At this point do teams expect Starling to sign rather than coming to Nebraska?
7:17

Kevin Goldstein:
The industry in general expects Starling to sign.

keithlaw:
Devil's advocate? Limited upside relative to alternatives. RT @Slowhiteguy: @keithlaw Lefty and Safeco equals a good fit. [via Twitter]

Jim Bowden:
I think Starling will sign...baseball is first love....but huge price tag w/Boras
7:18

Jeff Sackmann:
Don't worry, M's fans, Hultzen hit .336 this year.
