I wouldnt have thought that Bayern would sell Hargreaves, especially to Man U, and i doubt Hargreaves is that insterested in a move considering the stick he's gotten from his countrymen over the years.
Since we didnt sell ruud to them, i thought that our chances of signing hargreaves would be difficult. If he had the chance to move I dont think he would declkine it. He has said that he would love to play in the premiership sometime in his career and at the moment Man United would be the best place for him to go. he isnt going to get any stick from fans anymore. he was heroic against portugal at the world cup and he proved just about every england fan wrong. During that game the england fans were chanting his name, so it looks like he wont suffer any more stick from england fans anymore.

West Ham have gone and sold their only backup keeper...so now if Carroll gets injured we are screwwwed....and everyone knows if theres one thing you can rely on Roy Carroll to do, its get injured. :-/

I thought the one thing you could rely on Roy Carroll being was unreliable, but I suppose getting injured fits under that umbrella.

It's a shame you guys lost Hislop...I remember him looking shakey in the FA Cup semi final, but he was solid in the final (no goalie in the world would've stopped Stevie G's goals) and was absolutely brilliant in the World Cup. That said he is getting up there in age, so who knows how long that form would've continued.

Makes me wonder who Arsenal are going to get to succeed Mad Jens...as brilliant as he's been this past year (I'd put him up against any keeper in the world), he is 37. And no, Alumnia isn't gonna cut it...too shakey on crosses and catching the ball.

Man City have just bought Andreas Isaksson, awesome keeper but he'll end up playing at a higher level than man city some day me thinks, he's good enough.

Why hasn't this thread been stickied yet :(

I haven't really been following Newcastle Utd lately too.. anyone mind to tell me how they will go this season? I've already given up hope of them ever lifting the premiership cup.

MUTV seems to be the only place it's on, at least in the UK.

http://www.livesportontv.com/sportindex.php?id=1

For North American's, use this site to get an idea of what's being shown on which channel (for example you'd know that the Man U game is on Setanta USA).

http://www.livesoccertv.com/fixtures.php

Interestingly enough the Arsenal/Aston Villa game that opens up Emirates Stadium is scheduled to be on over here, but not in the UK. That's just bizarre to me, though I'm obviously happy I'll be able to watch it. I'll also be able to watch the England U21 game (as well as the Greece friendly the following day), so I'll be able to see my boy Walcott after all!

Blackburn beat New Zealand 5-0 with a mostly first team (maybe not the centre backs), McCarthy got 2, Roberts got 2 and Reid got 1. I know you're all thinking "yeah...but it's New Zealand", but Brazil only beat them 4-0 before the WC and they drew 1-1 with Charlton recently.

Man Utd beat Sevilla 3-0, last 2 goals were amusing. Saha, Ronaldo and D.Jones scored.

Ronaldo looked very good. He did a back heal side pass as he was tackled looked awesome lol.

On that note, West Ham just drew 1-1 with Olympiakos, who beat blackburn 5 - 0 ;)

Sunderland are now in the Championship, obviously, and have promptly lost all their first 3 games. Everyone point and laugh at them.

Bolton's pre-season is pretty similar, 5 losses and 1 draw. Oh, go on then, I'm feeling generous, let's all point and laugh at them too (please don't hurt me Osorio).

I definitely would if you weren't absolutely correct. Since you and Ghost were evaluating how good the teams are by who they played then it's good to know that this year's Bolton Wanderers are worse than AZ Alkmaar, Sevilla, Recreativo de Huelva, Derby, and Burnley. I'm sure Spurs are looking forward to next week as reports specify that Nolan, Diouf, and Stelios are all off their pace. There's still no strikers, there's a short list of names for the midfield, and Jussi seems to have lost something. I like having my optimism low however, since instead of complaining how they finished 8th last season I can rejoice if they finish in the top 10. Sorry for the rant I'm just a little worried.

Alright I'm heading out to the RBNY-Barcelona game. I predict this is going to be ugly with Barcelona winning by at least 3.

No matter how bad Bolton gets, they'll still find a way to get at least four points from us...sigh.

Yeah but that one point you guys got at Highbury was painful. Nolan got that excellent goal early on and left me feeling some excitement. Bolton seriously in Champions League hunt! Arsenal league double! Then Silva scored in 2nd half extra time. That happened quite a few times actually. =/ Oh and I can't use that FA Cup match either as it's only brought up when the Bolton fans argue with the West Ham fans and they bring up poor fanbase.

Its just manchester uniteds luck that Rooney could be out of the opening game due to a groin strain. Luckily we are playing fulham, so the strikers we do have availabe should be able to get a couple of goals without wayne rooney.

Top Tickets Prices in the EPL:-

Arsenal - £94
Spurs - £71
Chelsea - £60
West Ham - £57
Newcastle - £50
Fulham - £45
Reading - £41
Middlesboro - £40
Blackburn - £39
Bolton - £39
Man Utd - £39
Man City - £38
Everton - £37
Aston Villa - £35
Charlton - £35
Wigan - £35
Watford - £35
Liverpool - £34
Sheffield U - £34
Portsmouth - £30

So I guess the odds of me seeing the Gunners in the best seats is zero. :lol

£94?!?!

Thats chart must be looking only at the most expensive tickets because I know West Ham tickets start at £32 not £57, £57 must be sitting on the half way line vs a 6 club.

Quick look at the Arsenal website shows that their lowest ticket price is also £32

£94 is for Club Level seats or "platinum level members" so they got all the trimmings!

£34 is the average for other members like mine against A. Villa its £34 :-) cant wait till next Saturday!

OK, I've just joined the GAF Fantasy League! Username: tinklez_1983 / Team Name: Melbourne United :D

I know I've pimped this site a few times, but if you're into this sort of thing you have to get onboard Hattrick! This Fantasy Football thing looks like it'll be pretty cool, but already it doesn't look like it'll have the depth and the reward Hattrick gives you. But we'll see how we go. If you have the time, do check it out!

Go Mel U!

Riise! taking the ball from end to end, unleashing a fantastic 30 meter strike that was slightly screened from a Chelsea defender.

1-0 :D:D :D

I completely forgot last night. Barcelona won 4-1 so I was right, but I was proud of my boys. In the first half they played great and gave up a PK which Ronaldinho scored early, but they equalized with a nice goal by Djorkaeff. The problem started when Rijkaard put on Gudjohnsen and Messi. Actually there were about 6 new players who came on at the start of the 2nd half, and Meola was taken off for Conway for RBNY. Messi was a monster and with his speed the offside trap was getting constantly beaten. He got an assist on a goal that Ronaldinho put in, and scored one himself. I believe Saviola got the last goal. It was a good game though, and I don't usually see 79,000 people at a soccer match.

Yay!

Of course, it's a slightly meaningless match, but...

haha. I love crouchy but he had a pretty poor game apart from the goal. Most of the rest of the team had good games.

Im about to head out to watch Paraná Clube - Santos with around 12 friends.

Really exciting game, Parana is 2nd, Santos is 3rd, both have 27 points, but Parana has more goals.

I made it to this too. It was a great experience seeing all those people. Traffic on the way home was intense, but it was still well worth it.

Where'd you sit and what time did you come home? I sat in sec. 240 and with traffic it took me almost 2 hours to get to hudson county. It was ridiculous.

This is excellent news! Ellis has had a stranglehold on my beloved club for far too long. Now with a new Chairman and a great new manager in O'Neill we should be able to push forward.

Does anyone know much about this Randy Lerner? All I know is that he's an American Billionaire who owns one of the NFL clubs. He's not like the Glazers who took over Man Utd is he?

Goalkeeping worries could be over before they really began.

West Ham United can confirm that we have had a bid accepted by Norwich City for England goalkeeper Robert Green.

The deal, which could eventually rise to £2million, is still subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.

Green, 26, is currently recovering from a groin injury sustained while playing for England B against Belarus back in May - an injury that ruled him out of the World Cup finals in the summer.

West Ham United will make no further comment until the transfer has been officially finalised.

As a +1 it looks like we managed to screw over charlton in the process.

I think Green Vs Carroll is pretty even, Green has never really made good on his potential and was out virtually all of last season, but still he would have gone to the world cup if it wasnt for the injury so i'll trust the coaches judgement on him.

I guess so, although I doubt Lerner is going to put over £500 million of debt on the club! Its good or bad depending on how you look at it. As a united fan I just dont see the point in being miserable and unhappy about the glazers taking over united, Ive just tried to look at the positives. They know what they are doing and they are all very successful businessmen, so I trust the glazers not to make us bankrupt despite the massive debts we have. We've also had our highest ever ticket sales from this upcoming season and they look like they are splashing out money when we need to strengthen the squad.

I've always been curious as to who you support wes and now I know. I hope you'll post here often. Dont worry the people who post here follow football closely, unlike the poeple who posted in the world cup thread who are only interested in football every four years. Its a shame you didnt post here last year because it would have been great to take the piss out of your miserable failing team managed by a muppet and owned buy an even bigger muppet. It looks like things are getting better for villa though. O Meill is a capable manager and any chairman is better than ellis.

Its a good buy. Green will probably be the first choice goalie, i think he was great when he was at norwich, he was just unfortunate to have such a shit defence in front of him.

Well I wasn't around on here last year that's why! Also not sure if I would have liked to have the mickey taken out of me because Villa did so badly, although you would've definetly had had justification for doing so.

Best bit about this Lerner use is this quote I dug up from the BBC Sport website:
from the bbc said:
Lerner, who is the chairman of credit card company MBNA, has vowed to provide the resources to turn Villa into one of the top four teams in the Premiership.
I know it's rather bland and could be interpreted to mean a lot of things anything is better than the penny pinching of Ellis.

Also it looks like O'Niell is going to sign a longer contract now that Lerner is going to take over, extending the 12 month contract he signed with Ellis for a contract that would be "the longest held by any current Premiership manager".

All sounds good to me!

Not really. Im sure theyre somewhere near the bottom.

Anywya, the game was cool, shame they tied 1-1. Good atmosphere though.

Also:

Real Madrid 2 - 0 Real Salt Lake
Barcelona 4 - 1 Red Bulls

Ah, heres a picture I took at the game yesterday. We got pretty good seats, right where I wanted. For some reason, Paraná doesnt assign seats, or even sections, so you can sit in any part of the stadium.

Tickets were 20/10 which is 8 dollars full, 4 for students, women, seniors, members and fans witht he official shirt.

17,000 people.

I might be the only person on the planet who's pumped up for this England U21 game tomorrow. Of course being a Theo Walcott fanboy, there's a decent reason for that. Barring some last minute calamity he'll be good to go, though Taylor might save him for the second half since Theo hasn't played a match since (I'm guessing) April.

I was in sec. 315 and with traffic it took us like 5 hours to get home to eastern li. About 3 hours on the gw bridge... absolutely nuts.

Apparently Newcastle are cooling on the idea of buying Obafemi Martins from Inter because its emerged he's actually 6 years older than his advertised age (21) :lol

Yeah I knew you wasnt around last year, when i meantt you didnt post here last season I meant at gaf. I doubt you would have liked me to take the piss out of villa, but you understand why. They were pants last year, but things look good for you. You do have a decent squad, but new manes need to be introuced and they have got two weeks to do so. Have Villa even been linked with any player?

well thats been around for quite a while. The Nigerian FA put his age up on their website and it said 27. He refused to play for Nigeria again until they "fixed" it.
