That play was awesome - I watched that again last week sometime. If he had scored, it would have been legendary.
Mexico really has no class. When the US loses at Estadio Azteca they take the loss like men. I really don't remember the last time the Mexican players shook hands with us after they lost. Either way it's good for us. They can keep blaming a curse or whatever instead of wasting time trying to correct themselves.Cornballer said::lol
A couple notes from the game yesterday courtesy of Ives Galarcep:
Grant Wahl said:Mexican Soccer Lesson #2: To Understand Mexican Rivalries You Must Understand Ardido. As the teams leave the field at the end of the Clásico Tapatío I notice a familiar sight. Not one of the players shakes hands. Nobody trades his jersey. I've seen this before, of course, whenever the U.S. and Mexican national teams meet each other. When I ask my friend, the journalist Miguel Ángel Briseño of Reforma, about it, he mentions the word ardido -- a sort of rageful pride or courage that's common among Mexican soccer players.
For years I have tried to understand why great players like Rafael Márquez would spear Cobi Jones with his head in the final moments of Mexico's 2002 World Cup elimination, or why Oswaldo Sánchez would try to cut down Eddie Johnson following the U.S.'s second goal in Phoenix last February. Now, after watching the way the Chivas and Atlas players respond to their rivalry, I have a much clearer idea. Later, I track down what Sánchez told Mexican reporters about the incident in Phoenix.
"It gives me a lot of courage," he said, "because they make fun of us and enjoy it. It makes me angry that they make fun of me, it's true, and much more that they make fun of my country. Therefore I gave him a kick of ardido (rageful pride)." Ardido. I don't have to like the explanation -- nor did coach Hugo Sánchez, who replied, "one must maintain his form. I'll speak with him to avoid situations like this." -- but at least now I understand the phenomenon. It's not so much about the Americans (although that's certainly part of it) as it is about the way Mexican players treat all their most heated rivalries.

I don't think he would have been able to perform as well in England with his increasing risk of injury and increasing age. Spain might be a nice fit for him.
La Liga - Henry passes Barca medical despite hiccup
Eurosport - Mon, 25 Jun 15:41:00 2007
La Liga - Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has passed a medical at the Camp Nou despite evidence of a groin problem that requires treatment, club doctor Ricard Pruna has announced. He will be unveiled by the club at a 17:00 BST press conference.

Henry arrived in the Catalonian capital on Sunday evening and underwent the examination on Monday amid a heavy presence from both the media and supporters. He is set to put pen to paper on a four-year deal.
"He has passed all the tests satisfactorily," Barcelona team doctor Ricard Pruna told the club's official website. "There are no problems, everything is in order. Henry has no injury or after-effect that prevents him from joining the club.
"We paid particular attention to the groin area because we are aware of the problems he has had there. We believe it is due to an imbalance in the muscle groups in the area.
"He will undergo a special programme in Paris to redress the imbalance in the area so that he can join up with the rest of the team on July 21st."
Henry earlier spoke of the reasons for his decision to join the Blaugrana.
"It is incredible. I am looking forward to playing in the Camp Nou and helping the team in every way I can.
"The most important thing that made me come [here] is the way Barca plays, the fans and the support they give. Without good fans it is difficult to have a good team and vice versa.
"Their style of play has attracted me.
"Barca is more than a club. Everybody knows about Barca."
The former European and Spanish champions have moved to sign a player they failed to secure last summer after they faced him in the Champions League final.
Barca were hurt by the loss of their Liga title to arch rivals Real Madrid on the final day of the season.

Thierry Henry transfer to Barcelona agreed
Arsenal Football Club can confirm that Thierry Henry has agreed his transfer to Barcelona for an undisclosed fee.
Everyone at Arsenal would like to take this opportunity to recognise the massive contribution Thierry has made to the Club since joining in August 1999.
During his time at Arsenal, Thierry became the Clubs all-time leading goalscorer with 226 goals from his 370 appearances. He was also an integral part of the 2003/04 unbeaten League season, won the Premiership twice, the FA Cup twice, the Premiership Golden Boot four times, was voted the PFA Player of the Year twice and won the FWA Player of the Year on three occasions.
Everyone at Arsenal wish Thierry the best of luck for the future.
Speaking exclusively to Arsenal.com, Arsène Wenger said:
"Thierry has been tremendous for us since he arrived in 1999. He has excelled both as part of a team and individually. In short, he has become an Arsenal legend.
Personally, I would like to thank Thierry for the huge contribution he has made to the Club's success over the past eight years. To his great credit, he has mixed skill and style together with an appetite for winning. This wonderful combination was integral to our historical 49 games unbeaten run and all the honours he won at Arsenal, together with Thierry becoming the Club's record goal scorer - an achievement which in my view is unlikely to be surpassed.
It was Thierry's decision to leave Arsenal but he goes with my blessing. On behalf of everyone at the Club, we wish him the very best for the future."

That thumbs up is a knife stab to Arsenal fans.
most would agree that Vieira had his best days at Arsenal. He is still a very good player, but he isn't at the same level he was when he was here.celestial body said:Why do they always use selling Vieira as a good example of a Wenger decision? Since he left he has won the scudetto with Inter and Arsenal have won sweet FA. They also haven't been able to replace him in the the midfield strong man role, which has been pretty obvious.

Hopefully Hamburg will be able to find someone that wants to take Feilhaber on loan now....
I would have also accepted "Primadonovan." Though his most recent nickname, given to him by the Mexican press, is "The Mexicutioner." :lolRyck said:What woulda been awesome would be them replacing his name with "Landy-cakes".

The agent for US Gold Cup hero Benny Feilhaber says the crowd of suitors for the unsettled Hamburg prodigy has grown to include clubs from France and the Netherlands.
Fresh from a stunning volley winner to beat Mexico in Sunday's Gold Cup final, the former UCLA Bruin will now head off to join Bob Bradley's Copa América squad with sights set firmly on Thursday's Group D opener against Argentina in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
"We talked several days ago," Henner Janzen told American Soccer Daily. "I told him he can do his work (with the US National Team), and I will do my job here. He is doing great, and we will talk (after Copa América)."
"He had an interest from Switzerland. Now there are two teams in the Netherlands and one from France. They have made the initial contact, so we will see if these conversation deepen. After a good (Gold Cup showing), I am certain that good teams will be calling me with offers."
Several clubs in Germany had already checked into a season loan for Feilhaber, including Hannover 96 and second Bundesliga sides Cologne and St. Pauli. FC Basel were thought to be Swiss club pondering a swoop, while clubs such as Lille, Monaco and Paris St. Germain are busily trying to plug holes in the middle.
UEFA Cup entrants Heerenveen were in the original bidding when Hamburg inked Feilhaber two summers ago and could imagine pairing the midfield trickster with US central partner Michael Bradley. Meanwhile, Ajax could join the likes of FC Twente in searching for a new playmaker if Wesley Sneijder completes a move abroad as expected.
Where Feilhaber will end up for the new season remains a mystery, but it has become clear that a Hamburg return is not in the cards. HSV exec Dietmar Beiersdorfer appears set to deal away a previous plum signing at the behest of January sideline appointee Huub Stevens.
Beiersdorfer recently stated that the club would be willing to part with Feilhaber, who runs out of contract at the end of next season, for a cut rate believed to be in the 500,000 range. It remains to be seen whether or not the American's international performances could hike the price.
"I just spoke to the sport director," revealed Janzen on Monday. "Benny needs to proceed (in his development) and it wouldn't be a good thing to go back under the same conditions."
Feilhaber worked nine Bundesliga contests and three Champions League matches during the first half of the 2006/07 campaign under Thomas Doll, but was relegated to building his HSV II game total to 19 after Stevens arrived.
Yep I was so happy to see DC be the first team to lose to RSL. If you look at the Eastern Conference table it's ridiculous. 9 points separate first from last. Also, someone has to explain why Dallas plays so many damn games.Karakand said:RSL got their first win of the season against DC? :lol :lol

Oh wait, Findley helped them to the win. Stupid trade!

I think DC United was made for the purpose of being the team everyone hates. The black uniforms, the crest that's similar to the Third Reich, and winning more MLS Cups than anyone else. They're so easy to hate and their arrogant fanbase makes it even easier.Karakand said:The evil of United... unites us all as one people, even traditional enemies like New Yorkers and Angelenos.
The cluster **** in the east sucks for fans (well at least their nerves, parity is inherently exciting). In the west you have good teams and crappy teams so there's no worry about putting more than the minimum 1 team into the playoffs.
Assume for a minute this isn't a shitty photoshop that took me waaaaaaaaay too long to do. (F-U gimpshop.)Osorio said:I think DC United was made for the purpose of being the team everyone hates. We'll always have 2005, Dunivant. <3Osorio said:The latest trade rumor in MLS is that Kevin Goldthwaite is coming to New York in exchange for Todd Dunivant. I really hope this is not true for the Red Bulls have given up too many points due to a shaky defense. The defense was shaky in those games because players like Dunivant and Freeman were injured. Dunivant would be severely missed, but the guys on Metrofanatic are thinking this has to do with Arena trying to get one last player before contracts are made final on July 1st. Since Goldthwaite only makes 31k and Dunivant makes 100k we make 69k out of it and if we get rid of someone like Schopp we can get someone for 244k. Who knows what'll happen.
that's a bit disappointing. Although maybe it's for the best and he needs another year to be ready.Hooker said:Babel confirmed in the media that Arsenal has been fishing, and that he might go. But not this season. He'll play for Ajax 2007/2008
