To be fair though Martin O'Neill had Emile Heskey scoring goals at one point so Marlon should be on 20 a season at least.

We don't want any more from your team thanks! And I personally have complete faith in MON. He can do what he wants, I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing! Just the rest of the Villa lot who are panicked!

Richardson has left?

Richardson has left for a supposed £5.5million?

And if you're an insomniac, Chelsea are playing Suwon Bluewings at 4am (Wednesday technically) and they played very strong sides last game so I see no reason that'll change.
It ain't a night owl match for me. :D

Fantastic. I remember watching that game w/ a Chelsea fan who was talking all sorts of trash after they were up 2-0. Then Kanu decided to win the match single-handedly. :lol

Does anyone know what is going on with the new EPL shirts?

My birthday is coming up and I told my girlfriend I want the new Arsenal away kit with a player's name and number on the back. She tried a few different places but everyone says the jerseys with authentic letters and numbers and EPL patches aren't available. I think the EPL will be using a new letter/number style but is it still impossible to get an authentic jersey?

I got mine from the official Arsenal website - it's the authentic shirt and you can have a players name on too. I don't know if they are shipping to the US, but I think they are.

:(

Raymond Domenech has a bit of stick up his ass, he's saying Faubert should be playing for one of the top 4 teams (somewhere in Europe), but he's only played 1 game for France.

West Ham have apparently tabled a new £14 million bid for Defoe...now I thought the only reason we failed with the £11 million bid was that Defoe was scared of our fans...so that strikes me as a bit wierd. Personally i think as long as he got some goals quickly the fans would forget his past indiscretions. Bellamy vs Defoe to Partner Ashton up front would be a good contest imo. It's an extreme long shot though.

He is only 24 of course and I think he would do well, 14 million is quite a lot though.

For 14 million you could probably buy a better player.

Right, how many age groups and international tournaments are there this summer? It's annoying me now, why are there teams for every year? 19 year olds, 20 year olds, 21 year olds...can we not group these together? If you're a good enough 19 year old you're probably already in the U21s, so the 19 year olds we get aren't the best.

This was something that struck me when I logged onto the England FA website last year...

Take a gander at the left menu. :lol The redundancy is just mindblowing to me.

Even the Arsenal players didn't have their names on their jerseys on Saturday. :lol

This is why I'm still waiting to pay between 150-200 bucks for a Galaxy ticket.

:lol :lol

got to love the newspapers

:lol :lol :lol That is awesome...good on 'em. The rumour never made any sense to begin with (Wenger spending $15 mill? Bitch please)...neither does the new rumour that Arsenal (along with Spurs) are in with a shot at SWP. I can see Spurs getting him, but why's Arsenal gonna bother now?

the last thing we need is a right winger really. We have Walcott, Hleb, Rosicky, Ljungberg there already and Van Persie can play on the right wing too if needed.

Unless Wenger thinks he can convert SWP to a left winger I really don't see us buying him. Certainly not for 12 million anyway.

I can see him going to Spurs too, but the price is a bit on the low side for them. 15 million sounds more realistic.

Who's the one in the back with the sun shining out of his crotch?

I don't know! I think Shaun Maloney. And I also thought the guy on the far right was Mikel Silvestre at first :lol (it's Big John Carew)

SSN Breaking News:

Villa sign Marlon Harewood on 3 Year contract.

"Meh." Is all I've got to say. Back-up to Carew I think.

Well MON's comments pretty much sugggest he wont be a starter. So if we can afford to put £3m rated guys on the bench than that's good enough for me, considering the equivalent last year was Chris Sutton.

Harewood is a decent squad player, the last thing most premiership defences would want to see coming off the bench after 75 minutes is giant forward who's as strong as he is dumb, he's not slow either...sure is dumb though.

Plus he has quality arguments with NRC every time a pass goes astray (which is 10 or 11 times a game where Harewood and NRC are concerned)

Ailton is a strange animal

I remember him when I still used to watch German football when he played for Werder Bremen. Sometimes really good, mostly not so much. Baptista is a legitimate (if slightly better) successor.

His body is also oddly shaped, and he is not really your typical Brazilian player.

Jesus, Bayern is nuts. Luca Toni was injured in a test game and he will probably not play in the next couple of games, maybe he will even miss the first league game.

Podolski is injured too as is Schlaudraff, which means that Bayern has no strikers left, so they are going to let Ribery play as a striker.

:lol

not a big loss there. But a whole season with just 4 strikers is a bit on the risky side I'd say.

edit: good luck to the Arsenal player btw. Temperatures in Austria are between 35 and 40 degrees C during their stay. I can't imagine doing any sort of workout in that weather, apart from lifting a cold beer.
edit again: after watching an interview with Toure I now have a mancrush on him too

Wenger delays appointing Dein replacement

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, will delay appointing a new director of football at the Emirates Stadium until the start of the Premiership season.

Wenger is keen to replace David Dein, who resigned as vice-chairman in April, but not at the risk of disrupting his team's preparations for the new campaign.

"I wanted to do it before the end of the season when I started buying and selling," he said. "But then I thought that now is the worst time because I have no time to tell someone how I want to do things. I did not want to unsettle the team before the end of the transfer market. So at the moment I work with Ken Friar and it is working well for us."

Gilles Grimandi, the former Arsenal player who now works for the club as a scout, is considered the front-runner for the new post, with Reading's Nicky Hammond also in consideration. In the meantime, long-serving Arsenal director Ken Friar has been working with Wenger. The pair have enjoyed a productive summer in the transfer market, signing Lukasz Fabianski, Eduardo Da Silva, Havard Nordtveit and Bacary Sagna, as Arsenal prepare for a future without Thierry Henry.

The 30-year-old striker's departure for Barcelona has left many questioning the ability of the club to mount a meaningful challenge in the Premieship this season, but Koule Toure, the Arsenal defender, believes his team can be stronger than ever.

"We have all progressed mentally," he said. "We know what was wrong last season and have worked on it. We are focused and we know we can do something. We've played together for a long time. Each player has a big role and we're confident.

"We've all progressed together and we know we're going to make it. Titi [Henry] was our captain. When you miss someone very important from your family you are always sad but that is part of the job. We have to forget about it and think about what will happen and who takes his place.

"To be the champions you need to concentrate for all the games. We can only get better. When you are young you learn from your mistakes - next season we will be better than last season, you will see a different team," Toure said.

I wonder if the Grimandi thing is going to happen. Wenger said that he wanted an Englishman and I don't think his opinion has changed. I remember an interview with Wenger last summer (funnily it was in German and his German was really good) where he mentioned that he is working around 14 - 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How the **** can he manage to do the director of football job on top of that? It's only temporary but even half a year is a long time.

Wouldn't it be easier for you to start identifying which Arsenal players you don't have a mancrush on? It's a shorter list, if my math is correct.

Sounds like it'll only be a few more weeks of double-duty for him. I think he can sort it out.

:lol

it's true:

Aliadiere

oh, he's gone

There is a pretty interesting friendly today, Werder Bremen - Liverpool.

Werder won't stand a chance as they are missing their playmaker (Diego) and are plagued by injuries. They even lost against FC Basel in their last friendly.

But maybe we get to see their new signing (Carlos Alberto) and some of Liverpools new players too.

Mama Smurf said:
Wasn't he on trial at Portsmouth?

Yep. He scored for them as well. I'm guessing that Man City probably swooped for him and offered a better deal rather than him being turned down by Portsmouth.

Tevez has flown to Manchester for a medical but West Ham has just them you're not allowed to test him.

Oh Snap!

Pretty much. Their schedule is messed up for the remainder of the season because of his arrival. They backloaded most of it to get the most out of him.

They're a great team to watch, but I can't root for a team named after a Mexican team. If that doesn't bother you then go ahead. As a Cuban I always enjoy watching their star rookie Maykel Galindo.

HT report from Bremen - Liverpool:

Voronin scores after 4 minutes for Liverpool

Bremen equalizes 2 minutes later, Liverpool defense was okay, it was a deflected shot

Riise scores a free kick around 13 minutes into the game, what a hammer that was, Wiese punches it away with his fists but the shot was too hard

Random notes:

Carlos Alberto pisses Steven Gerrard off with his playing style and the two of them have a short outburst (Gerrard kicks Alberto while he's down and Alberto throws the ball at him).

Pennant dances around Bremens defenders and makes a really good impression, the only thing that's missing is the final cross or pass into the box.

Carlos Alberto dances around the whole defense and tricks the goalkeeper near the end of the first half but misses just by a couple of centimeters.

Benitez will substitute all 11 players in the second half, which means that we will see Torres and Benayoun.

The best friendly I've seen so far in the last couple of weeks.
