Oh and I'm calling for a football thread gaffers meetup in South Africa.
The odds makers already have me set at 7 on the over-under for the number of times I'll have the shit kicked out of me by opposing fans for being too obnoxious.

You'll probably want to bet over.

We'll just pretend we don't know you. Besides, it's not like violent crime is a problem in South Africa...

rar! My Gaudy Misfits are back with a new GAF themed kit. I even picked NRC to show there are no hard feelings (this has nothing at all to do with the fact 80% of my players in this fantasy league suffered crippling injuries last season).

I didn't realize that the Arsenal-PSG and Arsenal-Inter matches are on back-to-back days (28th and 29th). I guess we'll see a lot of squad rotation for those.

A couple pics from training, too:

good to see the squad again.

Alright lads I joined in this league of death.
Lets see how it goes but I better beat MrPing and Hadareud.
competitive spirit, that's what I like. it won't help you, but it's admirable

not completely, I'm staying with my parents who have dial up (which annoys the **** out of me every time I'm there) so I'll be able to check in every now and then. Of course I won't be home much but I suppose I'll see what's going on almost every morning.

I will also take some pictures of the Arsenal Salzburg game if I get the chance, I got a new fancy camera phone today and I intend to use it.

edit: by the way, it's Austria's semi final tonight. Anyone watching?

yeah, just started the irc channel. I'm the admin tonight, so I'll boot you all if Austria doesn't win.

on the substitutions:
Rules said:
Automatic substitutions

If your goalkeeper plays no part in the Gameweek, then the computer will substitute him for your replacement goalkeeper, if he played in the Gameweek.

If any of your outfield players play no part in the Gameweek, then the computer will try to substitute the inactive player for one of your replacements. This is done by replacing him with your highest priority substitute who actually played in the Gameweek and doesn't break the formation rules.

Automatic substitutions are applied at the end of the Gameweek, when all matches have been played.

You can change your substitution priorities at the bottom of the My Team page. Any changes you make to your substitution priorities will become active at the next deadline.

as I understand it, you only get points for your first 11 - unless somebody doesn't start and is automatically substituted.

Also, you get double points for your captain. If your captain doesn't play he will still be substituted but you won't get double points for the replacement.

OR WHAT?!?!?!

:D

How do subs work anyway? Do they only get points if u put them on?

I played this league last year and its miles better than Yahoo, very fair.
Subs will only come in if a player in that position didnt play.
So say a forward didnt play and you didnt have a forward sub so a defender or midfielder will come in but up to a certain amount. You can't have 5 defenders so you could lose out if you are not careful with your subs.
Double points for captain, you can change it every week for free. 1 free sub every week, after that 4 point penalty and 1 wild card a season where you can change whoole team for free.

Edit: Beaten to it.

Thats quite good actually. Guess I'll make my captain my biggest goal scorer.

ps prepare for a season of doom as I kick your ass every week.
or not

Not always best option, defenders will get 2 points for playing, 4 for clean sheet and 3 for man of the match so Terry is good choice and you should get 18 points if he plays well.
Fabregas is good option for captain or ronaldo as they score and assist for lots of points.

Portsmouth defenders were good choices last year along with Terry, Carvalho and Rio.

James was best keeper last year, worth looking at again.

Most of the subs will be bottom of the barrel stuff with 1 never playing a game all season.
Reading were the best bet last year, lots of cheap scoring players.

well, luckily I already had James in my squad, unfortunately I changed Primus and Campbell for Distin because I had to many Portsmouth players in my squad already. So now I got James, Distin and Tayler - should have had James, Primus and Campbell by the sounds of it. I knew they were gonna make good points but hesitated.

curses

I do have Van Persie too, and Hleb. I'm sure he's gonna make good points, he's playing a lot of games and gives quite a few assists.

I'd pick Gilberto over Hleb as he is the penalty taker and always scores like Ronaldo for Man Utd.

Edit: for crap spelling, dont drink and type

Drinking and typing is the only way to go, well, I don't know any other way anyway.

This fantasy football stuff is so difficult, because you can think about your selections as much as you want to - something is definitely not going your way, and some player you thought would do shit will all of a sudden be the man that gets everyone else all their points.

It's enjoyable, but it can be quite frustrating too.

So, what do you guys think the chances are for the promoted clubs in the Premier League this year? I'm a Sunderland fan myself, and I honestly think we are a couple of decent signings away from being safe, hopefully something will come of the Leighton Baines and Craig Gordon rumours.

I think Sunderland are a good bet myself, Birmingham not so sure, West Brom could be OK too.
Thing is there aren't many crap teams now with them all being bought by rich blokes.

That said ill go Birmingham, Fulham and West Brom for the drop.

I'm still confused about whether I can keep changing my team (and I mean entirely, not just switching round the first 11 from my 15) up until the deadline if I join now a lot. had's saying about how he should have chosen other Portsmouth players like he can't change it now...is that the case?

'cos I'll be waiting for Alves to sign for Chelsea before joining if so.

Would you like to put some money on West Brom going down? I'm confident they won't. Ok, so:

If West Brom get relegated from the Premiership next season, I owe you £300

If West Brom don't get relegated from the Premiership next season, you owe me £200

See what a good deal I've made it for you?

Ouch I think I've touched a nerve.
I'll take you up on the bet but how about €200 for you and €300 for me if things play out.

Prays for Philips injury.....

I think you can.
Transfers

After selecting your squad you can still deal in the transfer market. Unlimited squad transfers can be made, 1 transfer can be made between each gameweek deadline without charge. Each additional transfer made in the same gameweek will deduct 4 points from your total at the next deadline. Free transfers are not carried over from week to week.

All transfers before the start of the season are made at no cost. For teams entering after the start of the season, no points will be deducted before their first deadline.

You can play 1 transfer wild card a season. All transfers made in the Gameweek your wild card is played will be without points deduction. You play your wild card when confirming transfers.

Any transfers you make will become active at the next deadline.

Absolutely. Deal is done. No backing down.

you can make as many changes as you want before the start of the season

clearly this is an attempt to get me to bet with you. you know I can't resist a good bet. well, any bet.

Even though I know that West Brom aren't in the Premiership I am very tempted to take the bet. But I shall desist this once.

If history should have taught you one thing it is that you should not listen to what I say

Do you want to pay now or wait until the end of the season? I mean, I suppose technically they could still get relegated from the Premiership if there's a match fixing scandal or something and a few clubs are relegated so a few clubs come up.

Joorabchian's statement added: "It's time for these inconsistencies to be brought to an end.

"We see no alternative but to bring the true circumstances to the attention of a higher authority to aid a rapid conclusion to this issue."

what a shady ****. West Ham are not in the best of situations though.

haha, oh man. If Joorabchian comes out with the truth West Ham could be screwed. The whole thing is getting to be a joke now, will be interesting to see what happens with Tevez if he is forced to stay at West Ham.

I'm a Galaxy fan too. Of all the damn sports where we aren't mortal enemies it's freakin' futbol. :lol

P.S. The Mission Viejo Vigilantes were >>>>>>>> than the Grays Harbor Gulls

I haven't been to Grays Harbor in years, never watched a game of theirs either.

AAA Tacoma is where its at.

Don't ask me why, but I really fancy Liverpool for a cup win this season. I don't know what cup, it's more based on their squad and team...I can just see them being really effective in knock out competitions.

I also think that, like Arsenal last year, they're going to get the most points out of the matches between the top 4, but lose more points to weaker sides.

Liverpool tend to do really well in cup competitions every year, I'd be interested to see the odds on them for the knock-out competitions this season since they have strengthen the squad so considerably. Man Utd have to be almost a certainty for the Premier League though

I dunno, Mourinho seems to be strongly indicating reverting to the 4-3-3 formation, which would mean less Shevchenko, and he's no longer described Ballack as one of the untouchables...so I think Chelsea are my slight favourites right now. Depends on signings still of course.

bloody hell. My internet crashed around 10 minutes before the match last night and only came back on this morning.

seems I haven't missed too much :(

Hey guys, Im back from my holiday in turkey!

I'm behind on all the news. All I know is that Richardson signed for sunderland and liverpool beat breman in the friendly. What did I miss?

nothing that special. Arsenal signed Eto'o for 23 million last week and Real bought C. Ronaldo for 22 million.

I'm sure you heard about those two though.
