Time for some Gerrard adoration. In a tight game sometimes your big player can really save you.

if you squint at that picture, he looks a bit like a swastika.
didn't he once wear number 88 in a Merseyside derby as well?

Coincidence? I think not.

You really think so?
I was thinking he probably did something crap with the actual kick. :D

It was important we won today, now I think about it. 'Cos we have a European game mid-week, our fixture with Villa has been postponed, whereas most other teams have a game. Then we have Arsenal next weekend, and hopeful as I am that we can get something out of the game I know in reality we probably won't, so if we'd lost today we could find ourselves 9 points behind other teams around our level. And although it shouldn't make a difference, we'll still all have to play each team twice, that psychologically could be a blow.

Like, look at Villa. Lost today, no game mid-week, then at the weekend away to Newcastle. That's a game they could easily lose. Then a team like Sunderland, already have 3 points, away to Birmingham in mid-week and Wigan next Saturday...they could have 9 points and Villa are sitting there on 0. And the rest of the season you just feel like you're playing catch up.

absolutely. In the end of the day it's what cost Arsenal a shot at a serious title challenge last year. Being 9 points behind after a couple of weeks is not only incredibly difficult to make up, you also lose believe and confidence, which are vital for a title challenge.

Same with the fight for a UEFA cup spot and the relegation battle - you may never recover from a bad start.

What I am trying to say is: Villa are going down. Sorry Wes

Unless they're still adding points, I think I'm 4th in the fantasy league today. Doesn't really mean anything until the end of the weekend, I still have 5 players to play tomorrow (and someone only had 1 guy playing today), but it's onyl the bastards who made Gerrard the captain and therefore got 20 points from him alone who are ahead of me right now.

One player set to be key to Arsenal's hopes of success next season is midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

The 20-year-old Spaniard feels Emirates Stadium is the right place for him to be now, having once again rejected the overtures from Real Madrid this summer.

Fabregas was quoted in the Spanish media as admitting he spoke to Real's president Ramon Calderon and sport director Predrag Mijatovic about their interest, but decided to remain at Arsenal.

However, Wenger insisted: "I did not allow Fabregas to talk to anybody. He denies he did.

"If you can get the statement he has done that and that Real Madrid, more than ever, has done that, then we will sue Real Madrid.

"His agent might have spoken to Real Madrid.

"But Real Madrid are not entitled to do it without our permission.

"You expect other clubs to behave in a fair way when you have players under contract."
excellent

Finally, it appears we have grown a pair. I feel like if a player is under contract, it shouldn't even be a question wether or not they remain with their current club.

Oh WTF, it's worse than I thought. This is next Sunday:

Man City - Man Utd 13:30 - 15:20

Blackburn - Arsenal 15:00 - 16:50

Liverpool - Chelsea 16:00 - 17:50

Obviously I want to watch the Blackburn match most. And to do so I have to miss the last quarter of the Manchester derby, and the entire first half of the Liverpool match.

it's not like we've not done it before with Cole. It's not a good situation to be in though, because you might piss an integral part of the team off. But with clubs like Real who think they can do whatever they please it is necessary I'm afraid. *hides from BatiGoool*

Shame about the scheduling of the games. Liverpool and Chelsea are boring anyway though.

Wow. Who fucked up on that one?

I really hate madrid, and this is one of many reasons (the love in kaka is another). Milan, Arsenal, Chelsea and Feyenord should start an antimadrid club together. Real Madrid - the team with no respect at all.

Fucking shitty cunts those bastards at Liverpool I can't believe they did this to me. they signed with fucking Setanta so I can't watch extended highlights on Football First now I'll have to watch paltry highlights on MOTD.

If my computer didn't fuck the live stream GAH!!!

Pissed off right now.

I may be that bastard, sounds like something I'd do.

OMG I'm at the top :O

some screens from todays bayern match:

It was a really great match. And you know what? Rostock didnt have one single chance during the match.

The Toulouse - Liverpool game on Wednesday is on at 3.30pm for some reason. I can only think it's because Setanta have the rights to both their and Arsenal's qualifiers, so want to show them at different times.

Anyway, bad news if you're a Liverpool fan and can't see it that time, good news for me as there are a lot of matches that night at pretty much the same time, so now I can watch both Liverpool and...probably Portsmouth - Man Utd.

I didn't see Petrov touch the ball earlier, I thought Gerrard had flicked it round him and was then held back. So no, it wasn't a free kick.

quite clear now that it was no freekick. of course there was no way to see that flick on the shitty internet stream.

Really quite pisses me off, because stuff like that can change a season for a team.

I wanted another one, I know how much you like Hansen, especially when he says Arsenal have no chance of challenging United and Chelsea.

Did you notice Matthew Taylor was left out of the starting line up? He wasn't injured, because he came on late on. He was the player I mentioned a while ago who I wanted to put in my team, but wouldn't risk it because I wasn't sure he'd play in midfield with a new arrival. And I was right about the new arrival in midfield, Muntari played there...but I never considered they wouldn't even play Taylor at left back.

And I still don't think they wouldn't normally. Which suggests to me that rumour of Spurs signing him as they lack a left winger is true.

EDIT: Fucking hell, Portsmouth do have a difficult start to the season. They could find themselves waaaay behind.

What shitty stream did you use better than my shitty stream that doesn't show video at all.

and if you say TVants I think I'll scream.

could well be, it's interesting to say at the least. He's in my team on the bench btw

edit: that was an excellent header. he can really jump
edit: incredible goal by Derbyshire

I mean, he was kind of just in the right place at the right time. I don't mean to burst your bubble. I just think the passer had much more to do with that goal than Bianchi haha.

It was great being able to watch competitive games again, finally. But that Gerrard goal was really a groin shot. Ouch. At least I'm not a West Ham fan, they were livid on the call-in show.

:lol @ Reading getting Man U and Chelsea to start the year...didn't they play three of the big four over a four week period last season? Someone must hate them. :lol

Man Utd fans used to tell me that when Shearer was at the height of his ability. 112 in 138 matches for Blackburn, find me another striker who even came close. It's basically 4 goals every 5 games, unbelievable.

Yet apparently, Cantona was the better player because "all Shearer can do is score". A terrible affliction for a striker.

lol, but you know what I'm saying right? All I'm doing is giving credit where credit is due. Whoever was playing on the right for Man City carried the ball up and burst past West Ham's left back and made a beautiful cross to the far post. All Bianchi had to do was tap it in. Granted, he was doing the right thing and was where he needed to be but besides that, that goal was the winger's doing.

Glad about Newcastle getting a victory. Still got another season or two till everything rights itself though.

It was Elano, and he did great, but being in the right place at the right time is harder than people think, or they'd all be doing it. I'm probably biased, being that sort of a striker. I'm fast enough but nothing special, I don't have any particular trickery on the ball, I can spend 90% of a game doing nothing...but dammit I can put the ball in the back of the net!

Mama, I never figured you for an actual player. I always figured you were just some guy who lived on these forums and had never touched a ball in his life lol. I guess your post count is deceiving :D

Oh I'm nothing special, but I'm not bad. Haven't played in ages to be honest, I'm too lazy to join a team and train, I refuse to get up on cold, wet Sunday morning for matches, and it becomes harder and harder to get a bunch of mates together just for a kick around, what with jobs and relationships....but hell, as long as I can still watch it, it's not so bad.

My fantasy team didn't do as bad as I thought it would do. I forgot I had Osman and he got me good points, Anelka scored, and Nolan got an assist with 4 of my best players still playing tomorrow.
