what the hell is this that I'm hearing from other sites about this thing being playable on PSN this week?

Are they mistranslating something? They probably just mean this video will be on PSN this week. Playable is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too good to be true. I'd imagine they'll save that for some kind of Christmas gift.

Playable MGS4 demo pre-installed on holiday PS3's? Make it happen Sony/Konami. :D

this right here is how rumors get started.

Just noticed the little sun icon behind "Fine" for the weather.

I'm guessing these things affect gameplay somehow? Is this known already and I missed it somewhere? Not just things like muddy footprints after it rains like in MGS3, but I'm wondering if the wind direction and speed would make guards able to smell you more quickly and more easily after being in the trash bin, or if that would somehow affect shooting accuracy. Maybe the heat and humidity increases fatigue and slows him down? Strictly guesswork, maybe I'm thinking too hard. :)

The praise:- B-E-A-U-tiful!
- Gorgeous
- Pretty to look at, etc...
- Best explosions I've ever seen in game
- Great use of motion blur (second only to MotorStorm IMO)
- Voice acting was great
- Tone and mood of the world felt amazing (this is why I will buy this game)
- This game has style
- Some of that gameplay looked unreal ... the dumpster's smell will follow you around and attract enemy attention later in the level? Clinging smells = next gen :P ... but seriously, that's awesome! Same goes for the statue scene, the pat downs, and the SIXAXIS robot.
- When he was being attacked from behind and did his dive, roll, and shoot towards his feet thing...that was sick
- Guns look and SOUND soooo cool
- Story is sure to be fully fleshed out
- The concept of this (stealth in the battlefield) game is fairly unique and interesting
- The way they executed that "being able to ally with anyone" concept is one of the coolest things I've seen in a shooter to date.

The rant* (I'll buy the game but I've got some very harsh but fair criticisms):
- Why is a war game so silly? Looking at porno mags and farting/mooing robots? Stars/Z's above knocked out NPC's heads? It REALLY ruins the intensity/immersion of the game for me. I just cringe every time I see that crap.
- That barrel rolling sequence was ridiculous! :lol Did he pull that out of his skin tight back pocket? And how did he roll a can fast enough to flatten the two enemy soldiers? C'mon! This also kills the immersion.
- The AI seems piss poor. They can't hear his ultra-loud sniper rifle? They can't tell when their buddy right next to them get's knocked out?
- Just like in MGS3, the camouflage doesn't even come close to making you invisible...but NPCs still can't seem to see you. Why is this? How are you supposed to know if you'll be spotted or not if the camo doesn't even come close to actually camouflaging you?
- Why is the gun in the FPS view so high up, so dead centered, and so stationary? :lol
- Why the **** did those two guys fall of the roof? (11:45 mark)

* I realize that some of the points in my rant may still be addressed as the game is not out for at least six more months.

That was great. First time Ive been impressed by MGS gameplay and the graphics are amazing.

Other than some stiff animations I think everything in that demo was amazing.

'Cuz it's Metal Gear. :D It wouldn't be MGS without nudie pics, awkward humping motions, and farting/puking/pissing/shitting. And cardboard boxes.

Where's all that 'Environement that's constantly changing' that Kojima's been pimping around? I would've been excited to see this which would be the definition of being in a 'warzone'. Also, they still have those stiff and robotic animations from the previous gen.

Color me unimpressed. Looks fun, but showcasing a 15 minutes demo that should be the definition of next-gen gaming and relying on nostalgia and little tweaks here and there isn't groundbreaking gaming.

The AI not hearing the shot was probably staged for the demo.

The camouflage doesn't make you completely invisible because it's like gameplay balance. Kojima said something about making it so that you could always recognize and see your character on screen.

The roof was bad animation, they should have ragdolled a bit more or something. Probably staged for the demo ;)

For people complaining about AI, I think they must have dumbed it down for the demo. It's MGS4's first unveiling, I doubt they wanted to spend 15 minutes being spotted and running around to hide or spend 10 minutes killing a bunch of soldiers. They wanted to show all the new gameplay features.

Anyway, IGN's preview is up

July 24, 2007 - You're going to buy Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. You might have passed up Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation, poo-poo'd Metal Gear Solid 2's wonky storyline and cringed at eating serpents in Metal Gear Solid 3, but you're going to buy Metal Gear Solid 4.

Oh yes, it will be mine, my precccciousssss :D

Perhaps they're thinking about the sign ups for the online MGO beta?

Yeah, you are invisible like, if someone were to walk by they can't see you at all, but you can see yourself so you know what you are doing.

Also, they probably didn't think twice about the sniper shot, because it is a FREAKING WARZONE! People are getting shot all the freaking time in the middle of war, they were probably too pre-occupied with battle.

(1) If you've played any of the previous Metal Gears, you know that immersion is not always top for Kojima. Mags are always littered across venues in the game, and if you've actually played MGS1 and completed it, then you must know Psycho Mantis. What Kojima is aiming for is not immersion, but engrossment. The humor, melodrama and crazy antics are part of the series. MGS simply doesn't take itself *that* seriously..

(2) AI issues to be sorted, but I won't be suprised if it's a little weak.

(3) Camo issues.. is probably related to the difficulty level ala MGS3. Again, it's really not about being that realistic. MGS is a construct of a world on its own with its own rules and such that forms its gameplay.

(4) It's not an FPS game.

(5) Falling off the roof is dramatic. You really don't know Kojima if you're suprised at any of these in the game. The graphics and setting might be realistic, as well as the heavy general setting of the storyline (PMCs) but the man has his idiosyncracies. We all know that.

But aren't you completely invisible to the enemy? If so, how do you know if you've used your camo correctly? If you don't look camouflaged to your own to real life eyes, how do you know if you're camouflaged to the NPC's?

- Why is the gun in the FPS view so high up, so dead centered, and so stationary? :lol To resemble a penis. Pretty obvious
- Why the **** did those two guys fall of the roof? (11:45 mark)Hm... because they were shot? Hard to stand still when dead

I agree with you about the AI. It's either Kojima is really good because it's his game or the AI is just stupid. He was never caught once even when he was in the dark corner of the wall the solider kept walking forward not looking around his environment. I'm sure the game will hard as hell, but those AI need to be more alert. I don't mind the comedic relief in the game, it lightens things up a bit because it is a stealth game.

lol since the games graphics look good, people are going to be complaining about realism in gameplay haha. its a game, doesnt have to be realistic

Yeah I've only played about 3 or 4 hours of the entire MGS series to date so I'm an outsider complaining about something I know nothing about.

Oh yes, it will be mine, my precccciousssss :D

Early this morning at Konami's Metal Gear 20th anniversary party, Hideo Kojima gave the world its first look at MGS4 gameplay, and the world is still stunned. In a 15-minute presentation, Kojima showed just a sampling of the gadgets and techniques Snake has at his disposal for his latest -- and supposedly final -- mission as earth's greatest soldier.

YEAH Baby:D :D

Guys, there's a lot of mirrors to take the gameplay video, but which one is better?

I was downloading the one from gamersyde but I noticed that the video has 26 minutes >_>, I think that chat between Suda Goichi, Hideo and Mikami is included.

I can take the one from the Konami website (70mb) but I don't know if it has subtitles, from the gamevideos (160mb), or the gametrailers one? I'm looking for the best quality, also.
