Yeah, can't wait for the next coach. I hope it's Art Shell for comedy's sake.

HOLY SHIT WHAT!???!!?!?!?

ARRINGTON EMMONS AND PETITGOUT RELEASED!?!?!?!?

I understand Emmons but ARRINGTON and PETITGOUT!?!?!?

SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HEY ASSHOLE GIANTS, OUR SEASON WENT INTO THE SHITTER AFTER PETITGOUT WENT DOWN.

****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Slow down, Wellington!:lol

You know why the Giants couldn't pass well without Petitgout? Bob Whitfield. He sucks, and thankfully now, he's retired.

Arrington obviously wasn't healthy enough to keep. Oh well, not a big loss.

I know one thing, Jerry Reese is making an impact so far.

lol its true. marty is gone in san diego. probably a good move since he was leaving next year anyways. what were they going to do? have him pick an entirely new staff only to leave next year? cameron and phillips leaving left them no choice.

I still can't believe they waited to can him. It seems backwards to me. I thought at the end of the year, they might fire him and promote Cameron, since it seemed pretty clear he was going to get a job somewhere else. I wasn't so sure about Phillips.

I think the only people who didn't know Cam Cameron was going to be head coach next year was Chargers management.

My bets are on Singletary. My dark horse out of nowhere pick is Mike Martz...

Couldn't pass well with Luke? What basis do you have for this? What I do know is that Eli was constantly dancing around in the backfield because of Whitfield.

Look, all will be well if one of these two things happen:

1) We sign Lance Briggs (Likely franchised by Bears)

2) We draft either Lawrence Timmons, Patrick Willis, or Paul Posluszny.

The Giants haven't had an impact player at LB since Jessie Armstead's decline in 2000. Antonio Pierce is at the cusp and has been a Pro Bowl reserve for two straight years. I thought we would have had it with the Pierce/Arrington combo, but no go. Emmons I am glad to see leave, he was burned twice badly in the second half of the season, both against the Eagles. Once on an end around I think by Reggie Brown, and the other by BW on a TD run to the outside. The he rawks in Madden, I am glad to see that scrub go.

Whatever the case may be, I am somewhat glad that the LB corps is getting re-done. That is what Giants football is all about. Hopefully we go to a more man to man scheme with our D-Backs, that is what Cory Webster, Sam Madison, and RW are all better at. Enough with this ****ing zone bullcrap.

Hrm we have a $7.4 Mil cap savings next year due to Tiki and Bob retiring, along with the cuts of LaVar, Emmons, Morton, and Luke. Of course, this was the smart move because we're all getting a big bump in cap space for the 07-08 season so it won't bother us much.

Dream situation:
Code:
                        Demps Wilson
  Webster Madison

                Short Pierce Posluszny
     Osi Robbins Cofield Strahan

That's what I read, too.

Should be around $20M in CAP...

I'm surpised no one has mentioned yesterday's TMQ article. Easterbrook rounds up the worst NFL predictions from preseason, midseason, and right before the superbowl. I enjoyed the whole thing although I am having trouble deciding what the absolute worst prediction is. Easterbrook thinks this guy gets it:
Bob Oates, Los Angeles Times. Oates predicted Cincinnati, Denver, Detroit, Miami, Pittsburgh and Washington would reach the postseason -- all missed -- while Chicago would not make the playoffs. He said the Lions had a realistic chance of advancing to the Super Bowl. And the Indianapolis Colts? They will "flame out" because Peyton Manning "isn't a natural quarterback."

Though for sheer volume of wrongness, this guy gets my vote:
Adam Schein of Fox Sports predicted a Super Bowl of Panthers over Bengals; neither reached the playoffs. Culpepper, Schein foresaw, "will be in the MVP mix." For the Jets, "it's a rebuilding season." Schein predicted, "The Redskins are loaded with talent on defense -- Gregg Williams' unit will once again frustrate the opposition;" the Redskins finished 31st on defense. San Diego? "I haven't seen enough to put San Diego in the playoffs." Tampa? "Jon Gruden's Buccaneers will be a big factor in the playoff race." New Orleans? "This team will fall short."

And then there's this one:
Nick Saban: "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach."

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=easterbrook/070213

i hope the bears dont let briggs walk, pay the man his money

either that or franchise his ass, so at least we can get some draft pics if worse comes to worse

LT is going to be the defensive ROY next season.. book that. The guy is a baller and will be seen as one of FSU's all-time best LBs in the pros. I hope Buster gets a chance despite his height as he can really lay the wood. He's fast and agile to boot.

Dre Bly' looking for a trade...I'd take him back, his man-man cover skills are very good compared to others.

He's been discussed as a possibility for the Giants...

But, since there's been a LT here before, you probably know him, maybe Timmons can be called LTim. :)

Interesting you feel Cofield should still there, he did get pushed around alot last year. I'd see if I could get a middle rusher like they did BITD with Keith Washington. And why is Prettyboy Demps still there? Weren't at those horrendously blown tackles and his want to shy away from messing his hair enough to convince you to bring in some competition?

Giants are about 20 million under the cap soooo maybe a new CB in there....
I'm more of a fan of Willis for LB but I defiantly would not complain with Posluszny

cofield was a beast out there for most of the season and only till the end did he start to get pushed around from lack of depth and not used to playing a 16 game season

hell yeah dre was the man, id like to have him back. but i think the defense has more pressing needs. d-line #1, then LB, then secondary imo

Prettyboy was not consistent in open field tackling and coverage, but he progressed as the season wore on.

He'll have another shot since there is a new coordinator.

As for Cofield, what are you talking about? He was solid. He hit the rookie wall because he was forced to play every down because of injuries, but he's still a positive heading into the future.

I think so, too.

LAKE BUENA VISTA -Georgia Tech receiver Calvin Johnson stood just a fly pattern away from the practice field the Bucs call home for training camp at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

"I could definitely see myself fitting in down here," Johnson said. "I'd love it."

The Bucs aren't the only team that would love Johnson.

The 6-foot-4, 234-pound junior is projected as a top five pick. But first, he is prepping for the league's scouting combine in Indianapolis next week.

Tuesday, speed and conditioning coach Tom Shaw put Johnson and several dozen college players through a workout.

Johnson was clocked at 4.33 in the 40, recorded an 11-foot standing broad jump and had a vertical leap of 43 inches.

What i wouldnt give to get him on the eagles. He is gonna be an awesome player.

Too bad he is gonna most likely waste away on the bucs

while i would like calvin johnson too, there are no sure-things in the nfl. ask mike williams or the other gajillion players who had great combine/college numbers but floundered in the NFL. there is no way to know for sure until they get out on the field.

The Lions are the black hole of the NFL. Seriously who actually done really good on a consistant basis on that team? Roy Williams... Thats about it. Everyone else turns into a bust

Freddy Robbins is our penetration DT. He did a marvelous job last year. Then, as Lefty and Striker mentioned, Cofield did a great job up until the last few games of the year. The DTs, which we all thought were going to be a weakspot, turned out to be a strength.

With Spagnuolo, and of course an increase in focus on the LBs, I expect us to go back to the 2 space eating DTs. Probably the reason Willy Jo wasn't cut.

As for Demps, he played much better towards the end of the year (a year after a serious knee injury), let's just hope he stops with that stupid dive tackle bullcrap.

Eh, I guess I'm not a big Cofield guy. Though you've said why, I'm tired of seeing Fat Jo in the DT rotation.

Also, can the Giants actually draft a tall young CB who doesn't wind up being Curtis DeLoatch please?

screw drafting, lets just get samuel

Well, going away from the cover 2 will help our first three corners on the depth chart, like I said yesterday. All three are much more comfortable with bump and run style play, especially Webster.

Our top three corners had a pathetic five ints on the year. Dockery, Wilson, and Demps all had 2.

Donte Stallworth on his future:

"There's New England, obviously being able to play in an organization like that, similar to the Eagles, who have definitely won a lot of games in the past. San Francisco, young and upcoming team, has a good young quarterback [Alex Smith], and Norv Turner is still the offensive coordinator there, that helps... And Miami, the GM there was a guy who drafted me in New Orleans, Randy Mueller, and we've always had a real good relationship."

IDK. I surely don't want to over pay Stallworth. It think he is still pretty much a #2 WR who can do well in the right situation. Honestly I rather have someone more consistent and reliable. Stallworth pretty much disappeared after the first few games with the Iggles.

Stallworth needed donovan do to well, cause he can gun it out there ant let donte get it. Jeff Garcia's definiton of gunning it is throwing a 30 yard pass, so it doesnt really play up to his strengths

Donte is too injury prone to really pay that much for. I doubt if NE would really entertain the thought of going after him.

If he can stay somewhat healthy, the combo of Bryant, Stallworth, Davis, and Gore in SF would be... :-o

Did somebody call?

He could be Lil Timmy. :lol Calvin Johnson is the real deal and will shine in the pros, but to me, Gaines Adams fills a more pressing need. I suppose Joey Galloway isn't getting any younger though.

I like what this man preaches. But do the Giants have enough cash to pursue Briggs, Turner, AND Samuel? I'm a big Michael Turner guy mostly due to Brendon (<-- lolz) Jacobs' showing last year. I doubt the man had more than 15 carries in a game the whole year.

One thing I liked is in the past Giants would use Deloatch as their big guy CB since he was 6'4 and put him in situations where he wouldn't get killed, usually against tall 3rd-4th WRs. Yeah, it was more because DeLoatch sucked but I liked the gimmick. If I'm mistaken isn't Frankie Walker still a Giant?

From what I read, Giants are going more for a CB this year then a LBer. And we don't need Turner, Jacobs is going to be a beast. We just need a change of pace back somewhere in the draft and we will be fine.

Walker is still a Giant I think, but he may get the cut soon

Ravens | J. Lewis to be released
Thu, 15 Feb 2007 08:52:02 -0800

Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, reports the Baltimore Ravens are expected to release RB Jamal Lewis before he is due a $5 million roster bonus in March. If the Ravens cut Lewis, they are expected to save $3.3 million in salary cap room.

Lewis showed he had some life in him at the end of last season. I wouldn't mind seeing him split time with Caddy.

Except against the Bears, all our loses last year were by 10 points or less. We are defiantly improving and I think with the addition of Joe Thomas, our offense will have a huge boost.

Kitna can still get it done, but all he needs is a decent oline.

There's been strong rumblings that the Giants will go with a Jacobs/James Sims combo, unless a good name becomes available (Not Lewis). I'd rather we draft a guy and go wth Sims and Jacobs and have the rookie as the third back. I kinda hope we don't get Turner because I think he's more a product of the system.

I really want them to go hard after Samuel, second place being Nate Clements so that we have the ability to say goodbye to Sam Madison at the end of the season. I don't think we'll be able to afford both Samuel and Briggs, and if it came down to it, I'd rather get Briggs because of the fact that our new DC was an LB coach.

Regardless, with or without Tiki, we HAVE to go defense, the offense will be fine. We scored 22.2 ppg against the toughest schedule in the entire NFL. Our defense allowed 22.6 ppg (24th in the league). The only area of the defense that we don't need any help at is defensive line. The secondary is still horrendous (I really miss the two Will's, hell, even Jason Sehorn) and the LB corps is slo as shit and inexperienced as shit. We really should have kept Griesen.

Timmons is fast and hits like a truck. His ability to get into the backfield and register TFL is incredible. I'm so bummed he's leaving early. :(

I read an article where the FO said they want to slowly move Madison to #3 CB, so they want to get a CB who could replace him. Thats why I think were going to hit CB heavily this FA. We can use the draft for LBers, this year there is a good bunch out there.

But yeah we need Defense, especially DT, OLB, and DB

If that was the case then Charles Rogers would have been picked up as a FA a week after we released him. Yet with so many teams with such dire needs at WR, not one of them even bothered working out Chaz.

I can list a number of players in the past few years who we've gotten and they've been sweet. We've got 3 TE's that could start on 20 teams in the league.

Players that are good:
Roy Williams
Kevin Jones
Dan Campbell (Overshadowed in Dallas cuz of Witten)
Casey Fitzsimmons
Dominic Raiola (Probowl Center on any other team)
Corey Schlesinger
Mike Furrey (How many other NFL teams had 2 WRs with 100 catches each? And how many had Kitna throwing to them? :lol)
Ernie Sims
Boss Bailey
Cory Redding
Shaun Rogers
Dre Bly
Daniel Bullocks

We've got some talent. Nowhere near a superbowl level but we could challenge for a playoff bid in the paltry NFC if one or two things break our way in the offseason.

Plus, Bly wants to be traded and that's a good thing. His playstyle doesn't fit with the Tampa 2. You need strong DBacks that like to hit when you're running the Tampa 2, and Bly is more of a cover guy. A GREAT cover guy, don't get me wrong, but he's not gonna square up to Deangelo Williams in the hole.

lets analyze that list

Players that are good:
Roy Williams(agreed)
Kevin Jones(i said consistant. he did good his rookie year, then put up the big squadoosh the next two years)
Dan Campbell (Overshadowed in Dallas cuz of Witten)(oh yeah. his 300 yard season makes him AWESOME)
Casey Fitzsimmons(71 yards FTW!)
Dominic Raiola (Probowl Center on any other team)(just cause he is the highest paid non pro-bowl center doesnt make him one on another team. but ill give you this one just for the sake of argument)
Corey Schlesinger(i refuse to call him a FB a good player unless he is putting up some kind of numbers or hitting the pro-bowl)
Mike Furrey (How many other NFL teams had 2 WRs with 100 catches each? And how many had Kitna throwing to them? )(Ill give you this one also, even if its going against my consistency rule)
Ernie Sims(Did ok, but lets see what he does next year)
Boss Bailey(always injured)
Cory Redding(overlooked him. good DT)
Shaun Rogers(Injured/Steroids hamper him)
Dre Bly(Good cover, but didnt play like he did when he was a ram
Daniel Bullocks(no)

Ok, so 5 good players on the lions outta 53.

Wow, seemed like he was just getting healthy too.

Mock drafts are stupid as hell, but I'm hoping the bengals manage to get alan branch, lawrence timmons, or amobi okoye instead of leon hall, like mel "****ing moron" kiper has them picking. Not that I'm really opposed to the bengals getting a good CB, but it's honestly not the worst part of the defense, which is saying a lot considering how horrible the bengals' defense is.

Wellington,

I read on FOX Sports that Ahman Green is "intrigued" by the Giants and their RB situation.

A Jacobs/Green combo wouldn't be too shabby.

Let him be intrigued, I don't think our boy Reese will be too interested. He cut Luke, Carlos, LaVar, and Chad because of their injury history. Ahman Green had one monster year, and since then hasn't completed a full season. It would be cool if he came cheap, but I would not be too thrilled.

I am glad to see such an influx of Giants fans of late. :-o

*Meh*.. We don't need anymore Jints fans here!

Striker, see the light my friend. The 49ers train is leaving soon for Superbowl 42 and i'm offering you a the first seat on the bandwagon. FMT, Methodman, and myself invite you to come fight the good fight!

i could see the 9ers breaking the bank on stallworth, since you guys have the cap room to do it.

Adding him to the team might just give you guys a pretty nice offense!*

*till he misses 5 games with a hamstring

we already have a pretty nice offense assuming alex continues to progress. people seem to forget that vernon davis missed more than half the season with that broken leg. he started to actually hang onto the ball late in the year and was causing problems in the secondary. and i don't give a crap what anyone says the dude has yet to be brought down by the first guy. he is a beast in the open field. once alex, VD, frank the tank and our receivers are all in tune.... ayyyyyyyyeeeee!

Oh, i dont forget that, considering when it happened :)

By the way i dont wanna play you in madden if you guys get Donte :lol He can burn anyone 1 on 1 in madden, its crazy
