Official Virtua Fighter 5 Battle Arena Version C Thread

Yeah I'll just have to working on it. It's such a deep and complex game; and there's so many scrubs online that it's easy to become over confident and then get hammered by people who can actually play.

Here are the videos from the "Seiki no Taikeitsu 2007nen: Kenshirou Ari-na" tournament so far:

Its a pity that I didn't win but I enjoyed watching all those fights.

You can guard low punches standing. They're "special" lows.

There's a thread all about low punch on vf.com that might be interesting. This post by Chanchai is a good read if you don't want to go through the whole thread.

That was a good read. I strongly advise anyone who experienced "low puncher" issues to read that thread, comprehend then practise.

I'm watching the girls fight again... I still can't believe the match was that good. It reminds me of the girls that was playing VF5 when I was in Japan:

Yeah. They smacked it.

Not a single El Blaze in that tournament. ;_;

I have a few questions about how the arcade set-up works. How exactly do you purchase items and train for you character? Do you get money from matches against other players? Also, how do you get ahold of all the replays from your matches?

Hmmm...

Basing on the arcades in Japan @ You need to purchase a VF card from a seperate terminal which cost around 250yen. You take your new card and insert it into the VF arcade: select your character then play as normal. You'll earn cash and items based on any new item battle that you come across. You can improve your rank by appropriately beating graded characters which will increase your Ranking Meter. When your game is over, you need to go over to the VF Terminal to customise your character; this works the same way as Customisation mode on the console game.

To collect replays... It's something involving your PC but perhaps Reno can elaborate further. But what I do know is that if you're not set up on VF NET with SEGA then you would not be able to attain these replays.

Err, I meant the entire match, not the replay. Like how you're posting your tournament vids.

As Jide and MicVlaD mentioned (thanks guys), I am using a capture card to capture the replay footages - this is the safest way. SEGA uses the same method but done via their VFNET system. Reno can explain this part further if needed.

If you're thinking "on-the-fly" capturing then you need a Double Signal Pass system/unit. This device would accept a signal from your system, then send one direct signal to the TV and another signal to your capture device whether it's a TIVO or PC. This I've done before and you can find the Double Signal Pass system in any good electrical store.

For the arcades, most "VERSUS" cabinets comes with a TV-OUTPUT so you can feed the output signal to your video capturing device. While this is great to use, if you're not properly organised then it could become messy under event situations as you cannot control everything (the play could go straight to the GAME OVER screen and not show any of the character outros or even intros, etc).

I hope this information is insightful for you? Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

was your tournament played on a ps3?

It's best to go and join #vfhome on EFnet (irc) and ask if people wanna play. Most of the good VFDC players are online there.

I'm considering buying the item packs but I don't want to pay for an unlock key until I see pics of all the items. Anywhere I can get this?

Item pack one is decent. 2 and 3 are a hair color pallette swap and a light plate. Item pack 2 is a pink light plate 3 is a blue one. Not sure where to get picks.

It's amazing how far SEGA has gone with the Virtua Fighter series.

Latest and probably last movies from me for a while. Work's been busy and my premium account expires on the 17th, so I probably won't renew it until I have the time to play seriously again. Judging from these videos, I probably should stop playing cuz my play is getting worse whenever I take a break from the game (I had a 2 week vacation in Canada where I didn't play any games...)

Lion (Me) vs Aoi (Moriguma, aka Anaguma with a new name)
Just a note on this vid, Moriguma actually let me win this match since he had to go. I only saved the replay because I like his character intro and character costume lol.

Lion (Me) vs Sarah (Oremotaiga aka I'm also a tiger!)
This Sarah's PR comment says (I wanna fight more weaker opponents!) Bastard. :(

Game updated!

VF5 Update Available

Subtle Changes Improves the Perfect Fighting Game

LONDON (16th January, 2008) – SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced it has released a new downloadable patch for Virtua Fighter™ 5, the critically acclaimed arcade fighting game now available for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. The patch will include a number of gameplay additions and enhancements including:

Some characters will now be able to select costume-specific pants in alternate costumes, for example equipping Costume A pants in Costume B.

Replays of online battles can now be saved.

One additional item per character (appear as "Downloaded item" in Costume settings/Item edit dialog).

Gamer pictures will now be shown in online battles.

After winning the World Tournament Final, it's now more likely that rivals you have not defeated will be playing in arcades.

When someone joins an online match, you can now see their connection quality.

Various fixes for minor bugs, including a texture bug.

Easier sorting of rankings.

Rematches in Online VS. Player Matches now possible even when the players haven't added their opponent to their friend list

The Xbox 360™ version of Virtua Fighter™ 5 is based on the latest arcade version update and features both analog stick and D-pad control, as well as vibration support. The game also includes an improved Quest mode featuring more CPU rivals, items, and emblems for character customisation. The DOJO mode has added features including leaderboards, training move settings, improved throw escape training, and the option to change your opponent's position and recovery type. These all work to create a more refined DOJO mode where players can improve their fighting strategy.

That's pretty awesome right there, and very unexpected!

Especially being able to save online matches finally like DOA4, as well as seeing the opponent's connection, and the various costume and Dojo adjustments...

Looks like I picked the perfect time to pick up this game - which is really lag-free like everyone had been saying - good stuff Sega!

And as the 360 version gets updated... it becomes old in one swift move :lol Good job Sega, I love you guys!

What I mean to say is that Version D is now going on location test starting this weekend. Here's the info translated from VF.net

VF5 Version D location test information (1/16)
From 1/17 (Thurs) until 1/12 (Wed), the following arcades will be holding a VF5 Version D location test

Ikebukuro Gigo
Club Sega Akihabara
Club Sega Shinjuku West Exit
(ed. note - wtf happened to Kansai? I guess it's cuz Sega's based in Tokyo, but still...)

After the location test is finished, Club Sega Shinjuku West Exit will still have Version D (the others won't have it after the test)

Version D Main changes
- Single play "Knockout Trial" will now be "Knockout Trial 2"
- Open Battle Tournaments - tournaments that don't require entry supervision will start
- Costume E will be added to the costume lists
- In Score Attack, the CPU opponent's attack patterns and appearances will change (I presume to resemble Knockout Trial.)

That's it!

After winning the World Tournament Final, it's now more likely that rivals you have not defeated will be playing in arcades.
Does this mean that the last couple of people I need to complete an arcade, and only show up in tournaments, will show up in arcades, too? If that's the case, then great. :D

Hopefully, the version D updates will become available to the X360 version through a patch as well...

Post by LA Akira about Version D

I'll write up some more info on version D tomorrow morning after I complete knockout trial. I'm 1 team away from completing it and i'm hoping by doing so, i'm gonna get cosutme E. So far i've only got one item for shun from version D and thats "shinogai meiku" or "god of death makeup". You can now save matches against the CPU and every 4th and 10th stage an AI character shows up that is based on a real player. For example, I played a few versus matches early in the day and then throughout the day I saw random people fighting against my AI character wearing my clothes and items in the 1 player mode. It did seem to imitate some certain setups and timings I was doing when I played in versus mode as well.

Also, the window of opportunity for Goh's 33P from MC 6K is BS:lol
http://youtube.com/watch?v=SNllJ_35yBM

:(

Yeah, I know... I was seriously pissed that I didn't get the 33P after that knee cuz I hit-checked it just fine. :(

more info from LA Akira about Version D and how to get Costume E

Once you beat all groups under special it also unlocks costume E for the character you played through the game with. Beating all areas up until bermuda gives you a new semi rare item which was "shinigami meiku" or "god of death makeup".

And here's LA Akira fighting Brad's Costume E.... a pirate costume!? :D

Rah. So this is Version D. It looks very interesting and I'm glad they put the CPU imitation back. I remember they first done this for Virtua Fighter 2 on the Sega Saturn and it improved the game so much. But they didn't do it so well for Virtua Fighter 4 on the Playstation 2 but, then again, it was kinda a different implementation.

Btw, the new introduction for Version D looks awesome! I like the way Jacky and Goh were just brawling even though it was a little off-style:

That intro is awesome! Did I just spot Eileen dressed as Candy/Honey from Fighting Vipers?

No, definitely not. She is wearing the kind of clothes that a few Japanese girls wear these days. I think it's the pig tails and mini-skirt legs that made you think of Candy from Fighting Vipers.

Just got the game and I already have the Hori stick I am not having the best time with the button layout though. What are some of your layouts?

I most say, I am impressed by Virtua Fighters 5 net code. I have DSL Lite form Bellsouth, and I played a game online for the first time. no lag. Very smooth, just like paying offline. I am impressed. Also, Virtua Tennis runs as smooth as butter too. I wonder why they didn't add online for both the PS3 versions, is it becuase the Japanese coder would need help with the net code? I am sure MS helped AM2 with the net code for live.

Finally got all the achievements!

Now to play quest mode with someone other than Jacky:lol
congrats.. I'm getting near there...I'm warrior or something, I figured out an easy way to beat the dumb AI in the game... just press PPP over and over again, and if they start getting combos just crouch P:lol

Holy moley, you get like a million dollars for all characters once you complete quest mode. You have to start a new character and hold lb and you get the monies. Now to buy all that crap...

I've beaten about half the opponents in quest mode, I'm working my way through Sega North right now and just have the easiest ones left to beat after that. It's a bit time consuming though, all these AI fights become a little boring.

Is there a way to gauge how many of the opponents in a certain arcade you have beaten? Also I assume the star beside their name means I have already beaten them.

I got a new copy of VF5(PS3) for something like $14, and have barely played it... I should have known better considering how little I played VF4... but... $14!

I hate the cryptic training system... is there some other way I should be learning how to play this game again so I might actually get some enjoyment out of it?

Play with a friend.

I think I'm just gonna buy this and force myself to adapt to the shitty-ass 360 d-pad. Those videos were inspiring.

I've just started playing with Jackie for the first time since VF22 and man is he amazing!

Plus, Pai's Costume E is incredible!
