It did in VF4. Can't comment on VF5 yet. Wolf's size and weight means the timing for his tech roll will be slightly different from lighter characters. Try executing it a little sooner.
 
I'm new to the VF series and I was really impressed with the demo, fantastic visuals and a seemingly endless set of moves.

When looking at the command list though it was hard to work out how to do the moves, I was confused as to what everything referred to.

Didn't have any problem connecting to a quick match (ranked), though.. will try again. As for the "no lag"... umm, OK. It's about what I expected, but I don't call that no lag.

ya I have had a ton of problems connecting through quick matches too. Its seems as if you don't press A really fast to accept it wont connect for some reason, so I generally just do create game and will have a game with in a minute or two

I was able to be Dural twice out of six times. Do you unlock her when you beat arcade mode with everyone, or is it the Down Up Right A+Left thing again?
 
Yo im gonna be on in an hour or so, im an so-so player if anyone wants to get some games on. Need some friend requests as only 2 people on my list have the game (damn guitar hero).

I think the online is pretty good, but I definitely feel the delay. I'm a woeful 6-9 right now I went 2 or 3-1 and then hit the skids huge.

I blame part of it on the lag (not much... maybe one or two matches it made a difference), but more of it is the controller. The D-pad is bad enough, but I tend to sit the controller on my leg and use it like a joystick as best I can... thumb on D-pad, fingers on buttons. I think frequently I wind up accidentally pressing a trigger, which seems to nullify whatever it is I'm trying to do (either that or the lag really is bad).

Once again, anyone have any advice on a good 3rd party controller? The Hori stick, as far as I know, is simply not available in Canada.

I'm finally becoming somewhat better at this (I can finally consistently do an Offensive Move and tech roll) and I'm improving online. A lot of fun when playing against other technical characters (Wolf, Aoi, ...) too. Kind of hit my peak though for the moment, so I need to spend more time in the Dojo.

A nice compilation of combos by character.

Not necessarily a ton of stuff you won't find on vf.com (although there are some), but collected together a little more nicely, particularly if you're looking for something to print.

In case it's not obvious, the two columns under each character going across for closed and open stances, respectively (the first being when one character's front shows and the others back shows; the second when both fronts or both backs show).

It's all Ver. B stuff, like most of what's on vf.com, so if something completely doesn't work it may be a Ver. C change... and there are probably also better combos in some cases.
 
I suck so much at this game. I can handle most of the kyu ranked fighters in Quest mode...sorta, but as soon as it hits somewhere around 4th dan they get too good for my fighting level. I don't even know how to do a tech roll or do the quick evade movements to get a side throw.

I have put a ton of time into this game over the last week and still cant compete with people online :(
learning curve is pretty high once you get past anyone above level 4

Christ I spent the entire weekend playing this game, just glued to the TV like a sloth.

It's almost too good...I just can't suck myself away.

Now I know how World Of Warcraft players must feel. I know I need to stop, but I just...can't help myself.

What an amazing game.
 
10th Dan in Quest with Vanessa. Really like the game thus far, although I was having a hard time from 6th Dan to 10th Dan. Been losing some tournaments too :/ My win ratio dropped from 95% to 84%, ouch. Especially having a hard time with people who seem to block almost everything or 'offensive move' all around me. But I probably gotta do more OMs myself. Also fought vs an enforcer and a master, but lost two times :(.

Anyway, time to fire up Aoi in Dojo mode. Vanessa is a good girl but I feel like she's lacking something.

WTF happened to my Lion. :( He was like B tier in version B, now he gets dropped to C tier :(

At least Wolf is still A tier!
 
So is the 360 version any different from the PS3 version what was released earlier this year, apart form online play??

How is Wolf online? I heard people say it was a lot harder for a grapple heavy character online due to some changes, is this true?

Also, does this have the best netcode of any online fighter to date?

Oh god. Did you get that from 1UP? Nobody counts frames.(Apart from people who do frame data guides, that is done via using a completely different tool).
Anyway the frame counter shows you what you're inputting at a frame that's all. It was in VF4 too
 
Beat the Beginers tourny then went online, so good!

getting used as a punch bag alot but still so much fun, need to work on my moves list tho.
 
I'm a bit more experienced than the average player, but -- man. The lag was really screwing me up, when I played online, last night.

I would say that Dead or Alive 4 has better net code. I've only played both DOA4 and VF5 online, so, I can only speak in regard to both of those games.
 
PLEASE HELP: trying to get the sega arena coast achievement. You have to beat all the rivals. I've put in over 200 matches, pretty much all at this arena and it seems like i've beaten everyone. I keep entering and exiting the arena to see if someone I've not beat shows up but for the last 10 minutes nobody has appeared without a star next to their name. Do certain foes only show up during tournaments maybe? If so, how can I access the Sega Coast tourney quickly?
 
GAH! joined someones game and as it was the other way round my control settings were al arsed up, just fixed it by making 2up controls the same as 1up.

For the HORI stick it should be Green for G, Red for P and Blue for K yeah?

To see if you've completed the rival list for a certain arcade, check the status menu and use the d-pad to move left/right to scan through the arcade lists.

Hes exactly the same online as he is offline. :)
 
To find quick games, just host a game and you start a match in less than 20 seconds.

I'm fifth dan with Lion in Quest mode, but online I"m getting my A$$ royally kicked 1W-10L.
You people are pretty good online. More practice for me lolz.

Edit: Oh and there's basically no lag in this game. Awesomeness.
 
Gah after 40 straight wins (offline) at 2nd dan I was playing some random 4th dan and he beat me, first loss :(

Seems like my cheap high kicks wont be tolerated anymore :lol
 
Is there enough substance/depth offline? I usually get bored of most fighters within a few days as I've completed the Arcade modes really quickly.

Thanks to the Quest mode, there's a lot of stuff to do, it's just a matter of you being good enough to do it.
 
oh yeah, it seems like the default difficult has gone down from the PS3 version (?)

i got to 10th Dan on the PS3 version, but took a number of defeats

yet, i've made it to Gladiator level on X360 losing 5 games on the way.

And i SUCK at VF5.
 
So I've given up on the Tourney achivements for now. I spent an hour fighting high ranked foes hoping one I've not fought would show up but no luck. I tried the time command attack goal for Jacky and I can't do his side slide shuffle. Which is great CAUSE THEY DON'T TELL YOU HOW TO DO IT. A slide shuffle is back gpk a side slide is...something that's not listed.

I would say so. The VF series has always had extremely good AI, and this one isn't the exception. It's just a matter of making your way to those tiers.

And dcharlie, you need to make room on your friends list for the Segster!

With you being new to the series, I can safely say that not only will you not regret it, the experience may be slightly transcendental for you.

This game is going to fuck your perceptions of the fighting genre forever.
