Customization: Customize your character with the enhanced attachment system and customization engine. This gives players more flexibility than ever before when creating their characters.

Character portability: An Xbox 360 exclusive, character data portability makes it possible to save characters created in Quest Mode via Memory Unit, and play with those characters against other people's customized characters in VS Mode on other Xbox 360 systems.

Does that controller adapter mean I can use my PS2 arcade stick on a 360??

FYI, that adapter supposedly has horrible lag. It's also $80 or $90 bucks. That's already two reasons not to get one!

That adapter would solve my biggest woe, I don't feel comfortable getting a huge stick for my Xbox since most of my 2D fighting library is on PS3.. which has some better Hori sticks released for it.

Edit: Above post shattered that dream.

Is the Hori stick for Xbox any good then? 60$ is a good price.

To clarify, I checked up on it and supposedly the problem is on any 3rd party PCBs. So Hori Real Arcade Pros, etc. would suffer from this.

First-party PS1 and PS2 dual shock controllers supposedly work fine, so theoretically, if you had a custom-built joystick with a PS1 or PS2 dual shock PCB, then the XFPS360 + PS2 Joystick combo would be OK.

The thing is still expensive as hell though.

Is this actually comfortable for fighting games? Looks very weird for the game type. I can understand arcade games like pac man.

It's definitely a bit unorthodox for the genre (and geared more towards classic gaming), but I included it as another potential option. Who knows. There are people who've said that they not only like the 360 d-pad, but are great with it in games like DOA and VF. Some of those are even on unshaved pads which leads me to believe that some people can play on anything... like a shoe.

nice thread....I asume VF5 Arena is what the game is called in JP/EU??

can't wait until tuesday:D
got the Hori stick ready to go.

I just got the stick and after a few days I would say its worth it

Good-
-solid build
-looks
-buttons are responsive
-headset support
-just feels right using a stick again for a fighter(haven't touched a stick since arcade days)

Bad-
-the actual stick its self is way to low to the base so you cant put it in between your fingers(I am used to the long skiney american style stick)
-a little overpriced for 60$(should be 40$)
-stick makes a clicking sound when moving, wich may or maynot bother you

overall though I can't complain, I haven't used a stick in 7-8 years so its really nice to be able to use one again. I have gone back and played SF2T,MKU,and DOA4 with the stick it and now I dunno if I could go back to using the 360 dpad. Plus with the shit ton of fighters coming out next year I think it will get a ton of use:D

Any idea if the sensitivity adjustments can alleviate whatever lag that might be present?
I'd imagine some PC usb controllers and joysticks* could work as well. The only reason I'd consider something like this is to save on expenses and reduce clutter. I'd really like to get a high quality joystick and driving wheel to use with PS2/3 and 360 games if possible. Have to do some looking around.

Thanks. I've been looking for those photos, but I couldn't remember the name of the stick. Saw some hi-res pics of that stick in a few different custom designs some months ago and they just looked like quality items. Iirc, they also had a dual stick set up.

I'll be recording some videos of VF5 on 360 later today. 60 fps of course :)
Though of course, I'll suck while playing, but I'm sure you are used to it now :p

Hey, compared to that Jeux France lot you guys are gods with a gamepad.

Any word if this is going to have the better Training mode that VF4 Evolution had, or is it just the Dojo with Command and Free Training that the PS3 version has?

That Mad Catz stick was solely made for Xbox Live Arcade games by the way, so I don't think it's a viable option for Virtua Fighter 5 and other beat 'em ups.

Is it really that hard for some to use the regular 360 controller? I had absolutely no problems with it. Great thread. Had a ton of fun with the demo so this is a must buy.

Heh. Another controller question for the pot -

Anyone tried the Hori Ex Turbo?

I'm kinda of a D-Pad player (yeah, I know I know) so this is looking like an appealing option, but I've never really heard anyone talk about it before, so I'm wondering if that means it's not a significant improvement...

Anyone got it?

Dpad's supposed to be better, analog everything (triggers included) worse. That's not personal experience, just what I remember hearing here on GAF.

There's a new command training time attack mode, but that's all as far as I can see. Online works reasonably well so far. There's almost none of the slowdown and frame skipping that I got with DOA4. I have trouble with throw escapes and tech rolling, and it feels a bit 'off' somehow, but it's still a good laugh.

Online play impressions and snippets from this UK review http://www.pro-g.co.uk/xbox360/virtua_fighter_5/review-1.html

SEGA also confirmed that the 360 game would be based on the latest arcade version update, Version C, and feature vibration support, improved quest and DOJO modes. Incontrovertible evidence then that the 360 version would be the one to get? Read on.

Our primary concern was lag. Thankfully developer SEGA-AM2 has done a great job here. We set up ranked and player matches on XBL across a variety of stages and experienced zero lag. That's right - zero lag. This may differ depending on your connection and who you're playing, but early indications are extremely positive. No slowdown and no delay from button presses. However, it appears that the game won't punish you for disconnecting mid-battle, which is disappointing. This is something that Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting on XBL suffered from when it was first released. Thankfully a patch sorted that. Hopefully SEGA will sort this out too. There's also headset support, with a slight delay in the vocals, but we can live with that.

Quest mode, which sees SEGA dumping the traditional laughable storylines seen in beat-'em-ups for playing the part of someone playing the game in the dog-eat-dog world of arcades, makes a return from VF4 EVO. In it, you play gradually improving AI controlled players with weird names and even weirder slogans to earn cash spent customising your character. It's compelling only for a few hours, and is just like any other beat-'em-up quest mode, except dressed in different clothes. In fact, the whole single-player side of VF5 smacks of box-ticking.

The two new characters are Eileen, a young girl who uses monkey kung fu, and El Blaze, a Mexican lucha libre wrestler who instantly brings frat-boy favourite Jack Black's bungling big screen wrestler Nacho Libre to mind.

From a usability point of view, they're about as accessible as VF gets. Both characters have a good deal of moves that won't give you RSI, but, again, in true VF fashion, have finger-breaking combinations towards the end of their command lists.

The Xbox 360 pad sucks balls for beat-em-ups of course (you'll want to get yourself a Hori Fighting Stick EX2 Virtua Fighter 5 Edition for Xbox 360), but clearly Virtua Fighter 5 on the 360 is the best version of the game. There are rumours that the developers could release a patch to enable online play on the PS3 version, but until then, owners of Sony's next-gen console will have to make do with their friends and the Quest mode.

Amazing thread.

shame i bought this on ps3 a while back and wont buy it again.
Most of my gaming friends are multi-plat owners. Many of them bought the original release and will be buying this one as well. Some of us were lucky enough to only need 1 copy.

It's encoded at 29.97 fps, but I'll do some 60 fps videos when I get to play some more online games.

Lovely :D
Thanks for the PS3 friendly MP4s. It's always great to be able to dl directly from the system.

LOL, at the review/impressions claiming zero lag... Must be a NeoGAF fighting game fan...
The person that hosts does not experience any lag at all. It is the other person that has to deal with latency issues. But Europe is way ahead of the US when it comes to high-speed internet so I wouldn't be surprised if the reviewers had lag free games when they weren't hosting.

2 HUGE mistakes Sega made with this game:

Quitting a game early does not count as a loss. Japanese devs always forget this, then they patch it in later. Why can't they learn?

No lobby for more than 2 players. DOA4 and Street Fighter both have multiplayer lobbies, where 2 people fight and the rest watch and chat. This is the best format for online fighters, as if there's only a small number of people online in a region, you can all get into the same lobby with low-ping opponents. Why did Sega not learn this from looking at other XBL games?

Had I know about these before buying the game I would not have bought it.

They did this to reduce lag, I assume. Would've been nice if they included it for player matches (for up to 4 players), but overall netcode was more important to AM2.

I wonder if they could patch this in the future, but since we are talking about SEGA...

Awesome thread. I was a pretty hardcore VF player from VF1 - VF3tb on the Dreamcast (and arcade - it came out when I managed an arcade). Never played VF4, but I'm thinking I might jump at this one early next year when my backlog starts to get worked off.

monoRAIL said:

The no loss on disconnect is a tad annoying. But the no lobby thing isn't a big deal at all. After the first month everybody playing is usually doing ranked games, and a lobby doesn't make sense for ranked matches anyway.

man I can't belive they left out the lobby :(
its sounds like lazyness on AM2's part, if it was really a lag issue then they could have let you had the option to turn it on or off..I will put up with the lag to have that DOA4 style arcade feel when playing-nothing better than being able to watch who your going to play next and everyone else screaming and chanting when the matches get really close.
still a day 1 buy, but AM2 needs to do its homework on online gaming

No lobby? Holy shit, I'm rebuying this!

I hate the lobby idea. It makes me not play online fighters because when I first join I have to sit and watch people for 5 mins before I can even play the damn game. Plus it introduces lag.
