Official Virtua Fighter 5 Battle Arena Version C Thread

I wouldn't worry too much. The file size for the item pack is 108 kb. It looks more like a simple key unlock. Which is pretty lame. Tsk tsk Sega.

Unlocked Angel Wings for Eileen anyway. Now if only I could get Candy's red armor(or just her tiny black bikini). Shame we'll probably never see a Fighting Vipers 3.

Figures. Nothing to worry about here, then...

I just bought this (mostly due to this thread). I'm trying to do a simple PP down K with Shun and the game is not accepting it. I guess my timing is probbaly off, though I don't know. My input reads as 3P 4P 4down 2K. What's am I doing wrong?

I was just about to call you a twat. Then I realized you meant you bought the game, not the DLC :D

VF.com says you need 6 drinks in you for that string to work. Dunno if the in-game command lists show drink requirements, as I haven't played Shun.

It's a single pack with three items per character, so you don't have to pay once for every character. But still a fucking ripoff considering it's already on the disc.

So who wants to take the bullet and see what's really in it? If Version C is anything to go by, it's probably all neon coloured crap... which I'm hoping for. It better not be the silver bobcut for Aoi I couldn't find in the PS3 version...

Edit: vf.com says:

Vanessa
1. gas mask
2. Purple rose tatoo
3. flipped pink(!!!) hair

Shun Di:
No Eyebrows/Pigtail
White sage hat
Tied green bun

Goh:
Chainsaw
Cross shaped scar
long orange ponytail

Sarah:
Black Wings
Chandeleir necklace
Orange pigtails

Pai:
Chandeleir necklace
Pink Silk gloves
Long blue hair

Eileen
Goth bracelt
Pink Knit cap
Long blue pigtails

Aoi:
Golden crown
Noh mask
Pink side pigtails

Akira:
Kabuki make up,
short spear,
layered blue hair.

Jeffry:
heater shield,
white bandanna,
wavy blue hair

Jacky:
Orange Ponytail.
Red Scarf.
Gold Ring Necklace.

Uh oh. I don't have any of those Eileen items and I'm at 94% item completion.
Either it's really high end stuff or Sega purposely locked stuff up just to charge for it. I'm betting on the former because Sega couldn't possibly do something that stupid....hmm.

Wait, Goh has a chainsaw? I hope you can't use that in battle...

Many characters can equip weapons(Lau, Eileen, Kage, etc) but they can't use them.
I could get behind a Soul Calibur game with VF characters though.

I don't think time will ever run out in time attack. It only ends if you get stuck for a LONG time on a move. I failed once a couple minutes in with Jeffry, then went back and didn't take as long on one move and finished in 12 minutes.

Just got VF5 and the Hori Fighting Stick. I played a little this afternoon and all was fine. However, when I tried playing just now, the arcade stick guide button just flashed repeatedly but nothing else happened (none of the controls or buttons did anything). I unplugged it several times and tried it in both USB ports on the front of the 360 but with the same result.

Did I get a defective stick, or am I just really stupid and missing a simple way to make it work again? Is this a known issue?

Thanks a lot.

I'm starting out with Kage. I'm quite laughable but at least I have progressed from merely pushing the punch button repeatedly to putting together some basic combos and such. This really is an extrodinarily complex fighter. Some moves are quite difficult to pull off with the controller to say the least though, even with a modded dpad.

I'm not planning on going online for some time. Sure, I can do well enough against higher dan opponents in the dojo (I hit the wall around 7th and 8th dan) but I won't offer much of a challenge for a human opponent so there wouldn't be a point.

You're seeing battling against people the wrong way. It's not always about winning. If you want to base eveything on winning then I wouldn't be surprised if you trade your games a lot or don't play again after completion.

Go and play online. THe whole point would be to increase your fighting experience level by squaring against human opponents. You would also learn a lot faster too as you would be able to see what things would work and what wouldn't work with respect to a battle. You'll also learn how to mix and match your attacks and switch your playing style appropriately. All this would make you a better player.

Btw, this happened to my stick as well. I sent an email to Hori's customer support yesterday. Hopefully I hear back from them soon, as it's been 30 days since I bought the stick, and thus can't return/exchange it.

Interesting. Please post again when you hear back from them.

Just in case you haven't checked yet, look at the connector in the cable. It can get loose too, and if it's just loose enough, you'll get flaky power problems.

Please tell me that Pai has a spear.

I played online. I won some, I lost some. I lost more than I won. I had fun. I see your point. Your point is valid. Good point.

Anyone know how well this game sold? Hopefully enough to support an online community for the next few years. I scanned through the NDP thread but it was impossible to see anything through all the sony fans bitter tears.

The NPD thread made no mention of VF5. I was on VF.com earlier today and someone said it sold roughly 54,000. To be fair, his source was his friend who works at gamestop :p

Still, it sounds about right...unfortunately. Shooterbox am here to stay :(

ANYWAY, I switched from Wolf to Goh and i'm enjoying the game so much more. I still lose about 90% of my player matches, but I usually put up a damn good fight instead of getting rammed in my rectal canal. Anybody have Goh strats to offer up? I'm making a lot of progress, but I get destroyed by Brad, Lion, and Akira no matter who is using them.

October 30 - Nov 3

... ???

So got this yesterday, trained a bit in dojo and quest and immediatly got online. Only to get thouroughly owned though. Then got some training on MicVlaD's goh and started to win first matches. When i moved up to ranked play I lost my first 12 matches, got very frustrated but started to play better and more realistic, now i am at a stunning 3 wins - 13 losses :lol

Btw, thank you!!! Yeah, my connector was apart maybe a couple of centimeters, and I never noticed.

And Nature Roy, I never did hear back from hori (i click on their contact us support email link (supportus@hori.ne.jp). But anyways, check your connector on the cable, thats probably it.

While I've been playing VF games since the Saturn days, I'm not very good :).

I'd like to add some NeoGAFers to my Friends list for a friendly match or two.

Gamertag is BdoUK.

It's an online beat 'em up, so there'll be a community for years to come by default. Dead or Alive 4 and even Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection are pretty crowded (relatively speaking), so you have nothing to worry about.

Good to hear this! I'm glad.

Just for you, I took the liberty to find some really good Goh videos so you can analyse and improve your skills:

A couple pages back Reno and myself posted some Goh strats so just search this thread. dont get rammed in the rectal canal dude.

Simpleton question - I use Shun Di, and do okay in quest mode and okay in player matches. I ran into someone using Vanessa last night who beat me solidly a couple of times by basically spamming ppp combos. Whenever I stopped blocking for a fraction of a second to try to do anything, I'd get nailed. What's the best way to deal with this?

Yeah, spent a few hours puzzling over my DOA4 stick back when I got it until I noticed that stupid extra connector.

Yep, that was the problem. Thanks for the advice guys.

Too bad the awesome training mode that was in vf4evo is not in this game. I forgot everything and being able to practice all those different blocking and dodging stuff was awesome.

Are there any good ressources online with tons of ressources that show good strats? Youtube is kind of a mess. I'm a Lei player

I dont know if its just the hours I play but the competition online has issues. It seems like everyone I fight is either a kyu, who I beat the shit out of without trying, or a 9th dan who beats me down. I rarely fight people close to my own rank, 2nd dan.

I've seen plenty of people in between 1st - 4th Dan, so I guess it depends on what time you're playing it online.

http://joaomgcd.planetaclix.pt/gamesleaderboards/Virtua Fighter 5.xml I won :lol

Seriously, Quest mode on normal is just so much easier than it was in VF4/EVO. Kyu and Dan opponents can be beaten by just PPPK-ing (or your character's equivalent) all the way. I did get owned by 9th dan Shun (yeah I know) and a 10th dan Brad in the north arcade. The AI of this game is definitely weird. I once lost a match to a crazy hyper Lau player, but when I rematched him, he hardly moved at all, and I had 2 flawless games.
In total, I have about 1150 wins and 8 losses.

Also, when you completely finish Quest, you get a "cheat" that gets you the maximum amount of money for the next character you start. Pretty cool bonus.

And anyone worried about not getting all the items/emblems: don't. You'll get everything eventually. I won all the item/emblem tournaments pretty early in the game, but I think they'll show up again later in the game should you lose a tourney.
There are also a ton of item battles where you win money (the silver ones, the gold and coloured ones are items), so you'll easily be able to buy everything in the shop without doing additional tournaments.
The last 2 items I got with my Lion was purple hair and a blue light armband. His back item was a keyboard heh. It looks pretty stupid compared to the cool items everyone else has, but I'm still using it.

Does X-Acrade sell any type of converters that make Xbox compatible sticks work with Xbox 360? I'm not sure I want to buy another arcade stick just for 360, I don't see what else I'd use it with besides this until Soul Calibur IV comes out.
