Official Worldwide Nintendo Wii Launch Thread

I was shopping in the Sofmap in Kyoto near the station yesterday and I came apon a small display for the Nintendo Wii. They had a controller spinning on a small table for show. I took some pix with my phone.

I finally pre-ordered the Wii.

I was initially waiting to see what Toys R Us were doing with their 'get a free game included' deal (this is Australia btw). But I walked into Games Wizards today and seen boxes all over the place saying pre-ordering was critical, stocks will be limited. So I quized the Games Wizards chick (straight after 2 people before me put in their pre-order for the Wii) about what they will do in regards to matching the Toys R Us deal. She said pretty much what everyone else has been saying. No one really knows what TRU are going to do with that 'free game' idea. She's even heard rumours it could be a GameCube game. And that once they know what the deal really is, they'll try and match it. So I gave in and pre-ordered.

Wii console.
Zelda.
Monkey Ball.

Why did I pick Games Wizards who 'may' match the deal of TRU, as opposed to TRU themselves? I trust Games Wizards. I like their staff, I like how they seem to know their stuff about games. And I feel more comfortable pre-ordering game stuff in an actual game store.

I also asked if they'd taken many pre-orders. She said their store had taken the most pre-orders so far in their chain (this is Games Wizards in Broadway shopping centre, Sydney). They had taken a total of 69 pre-orders so far. Wow.

Nintendo is doing stuff right, and it is annoying me. I might not be able to just wal into a store and get one like I hoped.

Well, I'll buy:

1) Wii (don't know if Wii PAL or Wii NTSC)
2) Twilight Princess
3) Additional Remote + Nunchuk
4) Classic Controller
5) SD Card 512 MB
6) 5000 Wii Points
7) Component Cable + RGB Cable + S-Video cable

Is there a downloadable version? I don't want to download google video's program...
I've been searching for the source file but with no luck. All I know is that the movie is made by Dan Flynn.

(EDIT) Ok, I've found out that this video was made for a IGN forum (?) contest. So anyone with full access to the message boards should find it with a simple search for "A Wii Adventure".

Oh shiiiit.. I saw those boxes and assumed they were just hustling for preorders, I was going to ask Aussie GAF if they knew anything about the state of store allocations. My plan so far had just been to rock up to a Myer or JB Hifi and grab one off the shelf on launch day, I might have to reconsider..

GW Broadway rocks btw, I really like that place. EB Broadway not so much.

Dear Nintendo,

Please do the following:

1) Since you're being dumb about component cables and only selling them online, sell them online WELL BEFORE launch. I remember buying the USB dongle online for Mario Kart(before it's release), and I had to wait a couple of days after I had the game to get a strong connection at home.

Seriously, the initial demand will be high because the launch adopters are the hardcore gamers, and tech people. We're going to want to play the game on our nicer than average TVs with the best resolution possible. Later on, you have a point -- many gamers won't have component and it won't be as popular an option... however, it will be during the first month.

2) Fix Nintendo Wi-Fi. I assume you're doing something different since it's not launching at the same time as the system. And since that's pretty rediculous, I'm taking it for granted that you're doing something SIGNIFICANT. 1 friend code per system, not game. Let me see who all is online so I'm not waiting like a fool for a game or game room that no one is connected to. How come when a player is connected, we cannot continue to wait for more people to fill the room? And how come when I do get lucky and have several people connected, often it will time out and everyone goes away, and I get stuck with 1 on 1?

Also, use WiiConnect24 to patch WiiSports to be online when the system is up. Since everyone (USA) will own that game, that is the perfect way to introduce your network. From the sounds of it, cheating may become prevalent in games like Bowling if you didn't fix it (quick wrist movements instead of long motions) but even if you cannot come up with an easy way to catagorize who plays in what style, I want the option. I want to kick me some boxing ass online.

Oh, and give more options for Mii's on a continual basis. It's smart not to overwhelm casual people with too many varieties, but people who want to download more can handle it and will want the feature.

yeah, i'm particularly nervous about NWFC - the friend code system 'per game' was absolutely ridiculous and i really really hope it's being fixed this time around.

the lack of gaming lobbies in (some?) games was just unbelievable (mario kart comes to mind - hopes of a good online MK system were pretty quickly destroyed when it came out. when you can't even see who out of your friend list is online, or choose to play particular friends, you know something's wrong)

despite supprting online, nintendo are far from convincing me that they have it all worked out.

yeah

Am I the only one who wasn't really bothered by the friend code system? :lol There were only like 3 or 4 WiFi games, and they were pretty spaced out.

Anyway, I went to my local Target yesterday and they, too were selling lots of Wii accessories. It's exciting to see everything come to fruition.

Those white Wii boxes really look nice in person. Especially the Zelda one.

Nintendo's silence tells me that there wont be a special for either Zelda. And that makes me a sad panda. :(

Yeah, it's far too late now.

Link to the Past on Virtual Console would have been more than enough though.

A Wii Adventure (short animated movie set in the Wind Waker world) :D
:lol :lol :lol That was amazing. If they cut that down a bit it could make a brilliant commercial. Somthing like that would really catch people's attention.

Here is another video you can watch. Its a Wii advert that someone made.
