Ch. 331 is out! Its a pretty crazy chapter...some shit's going to go down.

Basically, some stuff happens with Iceberg having "something" that Corgi wants. Then the focus shifts back to the Going Merry where Usopp finally comes around after getting the crap beat out of him by the Frankies. Luffy basically breaks the news to him, that the Going Merry cannot be repaired, and Usopp doesn't believe him. Usopp says he can fix it (as he always has) and gets mad that Luffy would take the shipwrights' word over his. He's also pretty bummed about losing the money to Frankie and Nami is, as usual, pissed about this. Luffy and Usopp get in a shouting match which Sanji is forced to break up. This all kind of builds up to Usopp saying that if Luffy doesn't need any weak crew members anymore (since the Merry is considered nakama), the Usopp is going to leave, too, because he's obviously not as strong as the others. At the end of the chapter, Usopp is walking away from the GM, then turns around and challenges Luffy to a duel for possession of the Merry.

Needless to say, Oda has thrown another curveball at us. :) But its a pretty sad one, too. :(

They're saying that they MIGHT release episode 103 tomorrow. No promises though. At least that's what the IRC room says.

Ch. 332 is out
God damn, not much of a summary for this one. Its basically Usopp unloading the shitstorm on Luffy. I honestly can't tell whether or not Luffy was holding back, because Usopp did some Grade-A fighting and he honestly seemed caught off guard by the sharpshooter's strength. First he tricks Luffy by coughing up blood (still pretty beat up after the Franky incident) and then exploding a flash dial in his face. Then, while he's blinded, he shoots a rotten egg at Luffy followed by a Tabasco Star into Luffy's mouth which explodes and sends him flying onto a bunch of caltrops. Then Usopp throws some shurikens at him and finishes off the chapter by unleashing an absolutely HUGE kaenboshi on him. It would seem that Usopp's speed and cunning may really have thrown Luffy off. In a rather saddening touch, there's a close-up of the Going Merry "crying" (in reality its probably just the water which got splashed onto the head after the kaenboshi shook things up), but its obviously trying to symbolize that the Merry itself doesn't want the two crew members fighting.

And yeah, 103 needs to come out....like soon.

Now they are saying that it will be out tomorrow (which I believe means Saturday, since the message was set just a couple hours ago).

I would also like to add that it has now been exactly FIVE WEEKS since the release of episode 102.

what the hell? Why didn't Usopp fight like that against Franky?

He says during the fight that he knows Luffy's strengths and weaknesses therefore he had time to plan out a strategy to fight Luffy with. I do think that sooner or later that Luffy will get the upper hand.

the only knowledge that he used against Luffy seemed to be his sympathy(lame) and the fact that Luffy opens his wide mouth a lot. that's it.

ugh. Usopp is such a child.
I hope this act ends up with Luffy becoming a better captain - leading the pirates and standing his ground even through this time of change

He also used the knowledge that Luffy's weakness is against sharp objects. Also, Usopp is fighting for the Merry here, he was only fighting the Frankies to get the money back....at that time, he didn't know the Merry was in danger.

The complaints have more to do with the community than K-F in particular. Obviously, other series get multiple groups subbing them, or subbing them on a weekly basis or so. K-F is the only one (for various reasons, discussed before....so yes, I'm aware of them), so when you don't have any other options, things can get frustrating if there's a long time to wait between releases. Its a double-edged sword, really. We get OP, but we have to wait a long time for it.

Hopefully when the gap between the K-F subs and the TV airings becomes around 26 episodes (if it ever happens :P ) other groups might pick it up.

edit

They just confirmed 103 will be out tonight... this is from their site:

Well after a long stretch of filler and no releases, it is at last time to pump up for episode 103. We actually would have been ready sooner but there was one line in particular from Mr. Bon Clay we just COULD NOT get. Spent 3 whole days trying to figure out what that flipping ballerina was saying! We're still not sure what he said, nor even sure what LANGUAGE it is, but hey, you won't notice anyway ^_^. And no, don't offer to help, even if you are French, it will only delay the episode more.

I do appreciate K-F's hard work but I'm sure the fans would not mind ONE line that we won't even notice if it means getting the episode early and more time for K-F to devote for later episodes. :)

As I've said before, I wouldn't mind it, either, but there are going to be those idiots anal enough about little discrepancies like that to bitch endlessly about it.

Are these chapters you're getting scanlations, or do you read japanese? I've never seen either type available, but I was curious either way.

Argh! I'm still banned from Rizon. I guess I'll jump on the mad grab for the torrent when it comes available or... I might try Kaizoku's DC++ hub.

I think there's a group of japanese people who scan the weekly Jump magazine and puts it online (newsgroup?)
then some people translate 'em. and others edit the text into the scans.

The Chinese scanlations that I read are produced this way.

I'm sure there are english ones out there that are produced like this as well.

Arlong Park usually posts up the scanned raws every Friday or so. Then they usually get a summary of what happened up as soon as they can (usually from CaptainPanda). That, combined with the chatter in the comments from people who can read Japanese, you can usually figure out pretty well what's happened. A couple days following a raw release, somebody puts out a script for it, then the true scanlations are done whenever they get around to it.

Ah, just finished 103. Thank god for new One Piece. I actually just felt really, really happy during the end credits of this episode. It was like meeting an old friend I hadn't seen in a long time. :)

Anyway, it's nice to see real plot again.

Yeah, seriously. When you read the manga its amazing how much filler there actually is in the anime. In the manga they set out for Yuba in one chapter and are there practically the next. :P

I don't know if this is serious.. but in the irc channel they're saying 104 will be out when FB's site hits 10 thousand hits.. FB is an editor on the fansubing team.

It would not hurt to hit refresh several times on her site so please help. Here's the link:

Looks like they may have been serious. They are now saying that 104 MIGHT be out tomorrow (Wednesday).

Yay One Piece!

Don't kill the messenger:

Supposedly there's an "advance showing" of One Piece on Fox Box this Saturday. How badly is it butchered? Well, at least if it's the first episode, I won't have to see Sanji's candy cane...

This won't be in the first episode but I bet they won't show Shanks' torn arm. He’ll just scare off the sea king with his look and Luffy will cry for the trauma he caused him. I can't wait to see Hawkeyes' fight against Zorro. They better still have their swords. =\

I saw the first 10 episodes yesterday.
Some of my impressions.

The ugly:
Animation & overall design is awful, I hate the 70s style.

The bad:
Flashback mania.
No fan service

The good:
They somehow manage to mix stupid, funny, ugly and drama in a good way.
Even if I hate the 70s style it provides some interesting & amusing characters.
It has been entertaining right from the first episode.

I did not like the overall design at first too but now I LOVE it. I can't imagine One Piece any other way and feel ASHAMED that I did not embrace the style when I first watched it. Ok maybe not ashamed but you get the idea. Trust me. When the show gets whacky and the adventure kicks off you'll contemplate learning japanese just for One Piece.

The raw for episode 200 is out... :(

Yeah, at first I was like "ew, WTF is this?!" But the art really grows on you, and really it is damn near perfect for the show. I went from thinking the visuals sucked to thinking the show looked terrific. It's weird, but as the show gets more fantastical, the style fits it better and better.

And there is a little bit of fanservice later, but it doesn't really come in until Nami loosens up a bit and even when it does work its way into the show, it's minimal at best.

I dunno, I liked the look of it from the beginning. Its highly unique and I can't really see the "70s" style except for the fact that the I do remember the first few episodes I saw being somewhat washed-out/grainy. I don't know if that was because of poor work done on the early episodes or just the way the video had been captured. However, I'll admit that Oda does use some interesting conventions that do give the art a slightly older feel. Personally, I *love* it, though, because just about every other god damn anime out ther right now utilizes the same, computer-drawn/colored, manufactured look. Not to mention the extremely generic character designs. One Piece *is* inspired somewhat by an earlier time (earlier Toriyama stuff, for instance), but I still don't know if I'd call it "70s" style. Disagreements aside, like others have said, I'm sure you'll get used to it soon enough and you couldn't imagine the series without its unique artstyle.

Also....flashbacks? They're really not that often. They sometimes flash back for a few seconds or something, but you might be talking about the episode where Luffy flashes back to his "origin." Those events took place *first* in the manga, but they decided to run with Alvida first for some reason in the anime.

Oh well.

At least you seem to like it otherwise, and it gets better. It goes in a different direction from what the early characters like Coby and Alvida would make you think it does (i.e. a decidedly unannoying direction ;)).

OP is a perfect example of not judging a book by its cover. The message is clear: you need to dig deeper or beyond first impressions of various things.

The first time I saw anything One Piece was in Shonen Jump. I'm a sucker for anything with pirates, so I think I cut it a little more slack than most, but even if I didn't, I'd still think it was great from the get-go.

Looks like they're back on the ball. Maybe the rumors that they had a bunch of episodes virtually ready to go was true.

Yeah, I think I was already pretty into the idea of it before I started watching/reading it. It was something I had always heard of, but never had access to, so I was already pretty hyped to get into it from the beginning.

Is it just me or is the video quality of 104 well below the usual standard? It looked pretty bad at times, which I've never seen from the One Piece subs before.

Be thankful you've never seen the HK subs then...

I have......... I downloaded all the HK subs I can get since KF was too slow.... Blah, I am pretty sure I can understand what happen more when watching the raw, the HK sub just confused the hell out of me.

They got Luffy just so wrong, it's almost unbearable to watch. I think any sort of enjoyment of the dub for me, hung on how well they did the VO of the Straw Hat crew & Luffy is absolutely horrid, like a mix between Krillin & a smurf. Zoro doesn't sound too bad, but then again, he sounds like so many other badly dubbed characters.

Seriously... do these dub companies just shuffle back & forth between voice talent, recycling the same group of people over & over again. I'm a little worried that 4kids will redo the music track, notice the slight change in the OP theme at the end.

Tokyo Mew Mew is beating out both shows by double the % of votes. :(

I playing One Piece all day at work, in protest.

I also note the lack of Sanji in that preview... that would've earned OP a 100% vote imo.
