You're going to have to skip about twenty episodes, then.

Basically,
the thing happens with the sand ocean people, then the ep 99 with the fake rebels (keeping in mind that I'm watching HK subs with totally fubared names), and Ace leaves. Then it's a long stretch of Vivi's origin, flashbacks to hot the oasis town was founded and failed, and then the setup of putting Crocodile's plans into action, and you see how really irritating Baroque Works' other characters are voiced

Between 99 and about episode 115 or so, the only really good parts are
Luffy going nuts and fighting Zoro for a bit, then stumbling upon some ruins underground, and then when Sanji owns some huge crocodiles later on when the crew gets trapped in a cage by Crocodile

Then once
the actual rebellion starts
, there's a series of cool fights that kind of show that all the characters are stepping up to the next level.

I actually remember the crocodile/Sanji thing. Awhile ago I managed to get an HK sub of that episode off of Kazaa or something like that. I know it'll take awhile to get going and I honestly don't mind plot exposition that much. Its just all this useless meandering around in the desert that can get mind-numbing

Exactly, but the one thing I will give them is that you can share the crew's sense of being tired and like "man, will this ever end? are we there yet?", but not in a bad way... so when you finally get the payoff episodes, it's great.

If anyone of 4Kids is reading this: I want 6 episode DVDs. That's right. One Piece is a huge series. That's 6. OK? One less and I'll blow up your offices. Ok I'm kidding.

or am I?
Don't count on it. I was looking at One Piece DVDs today, and the Japanese ones only have 3 or 4 per disc. I would not expect a notoriously shitty company like 4Kids to possibly outdo that.

I damn near bought a DVD with all the opening and ending sequences though. Just for the novelty of it. But $25 for 20 minutes of video is a bit steep, wouldn't you say? I'm not sure the novelty outweighs the price.

This site seems cool for anime box sets, though I don't know how reliable.

-edited-
Didn't realize it was bootleg, whatever.

If you guys have seen the fansubbed versions, the most-likely engrish subs on those should do you just fine. Good value, especially compared to $25 for 4 episodes (come on, it's 4kids), and I don't know about you but I'd prefer engrish to outright bastardized.

Not sure if I'll try to get into the anime, but I may end up getting the shonen jump manga volumes. Sure they're only coming out about once a month (or two), but honestly thats probably about as fast as I'd buy them anyway, and it will be a lasting and enjoyable thing. Meanwhile I'll watch bastardized versions on 4kids just for mental imagery sakes.

If I get too anxious about getting more One Piece I'm sure Naruto will do good to satisfy any more cravings for quality stuff, and thats about all the room I have left for anime/manga between my other interests in life.

Don't underestimate the power of bootleg fansubs. I had to sit through an couple entire arcs with shitty hong kong subs (this is before K-F was anywhere close to where they are now). It grated on me like all hell!

Bootlegs aren't exactly something you wanna get unless you know Japanese because those things have more mangled English than you can shake a stick at.

It only bugged me for about two episodes. I was like , "wtf, Roof... Namy, Sunkist, and Crook Bu?"

Then I heard my boss speak some engrish, and the subbing didn't seem so bad.

Not to mention the discs are so poorly made you're lucky if they don't explode upon contact with air.

They sure do have nice looking case designs though.

One Piece 100 to be released tonight! On IRC, only, though. Supposedly also a bonus release coming along with it, but K-F hasn't said what it is.

Oh yeah, anyone else have details on the One Piece: Round the Land game? It seems like some weird action/fighting/platform/mini-game hybrid with each character representing one of the major story arcs up through Skypiea, plus some new villain at the end of the game. It looks really weird, but I can't make heads or tails of what is actually supposed to be going on. Or if its any good for that matter (of course it isn't out yet).

I had a feeling K-F would do something special for the release of 100. It is something of a landmark. Maybe it's movie 3, since that supposedly takes places somewhere around episode 95 (not sure how that's exactly possible).

And I don't know, Belfast. I saw a commercial for that game during Naruto last week and thought it looked pretty decent, but I have no idea how it is actually supposed to be. I don't think it is out till the end of July.

Yeah, how can it take place in the middle of an arc? Well, I guess it could be between Drum Island and Arabasta, but it still sounds silly. Hopefully its something of that sort, though.

Movie 3 is screwy; it has Chopper, but not Vivi or Robin. Since the arrival of Robin marks the departure of Vivi, there's NO POINT in the OP timeline where you can have Chopper but NOT Vivi or Robin.

...Well it's also screwy because it's not very good but then again most movies based off TV shows aren't :(

I got a cute little Sanji toy out of one of those capsule machines in Shibuya today. I was so excited I got the character I wanted. :)

And yay for episode 100!

Episode 100 was great. The guys were HILARIOUS, and Vivi's story was very nicely done. I really like these kinds of episodes. Vivi is a really good character, even if she is very bland and normal compared to the rest of the team. I'll be sad to see her go.

New manga chapter released.

Looks like there actually may end up being more than one candidate for the next crew member. Two chapters ago they introduced Kaku, last chapter it was Paulie, and now Rob Ricci, who seems to be a ventriloquist who talks through the bird on his shoulder, Hattori. Other notable stuff: Luffy invite Mr. Iceburg to join the crew, but he declines. There is a group of people called "ship dismantlers" who steal ships and break them down to sell the parts. Apparently, while the subordinates are fairly weak, their boss is rumored to be very strong. I'm sensing a new villain soon...... Also, Usopp gets kidnapped by the Frankie Family and Kaku says that the Going Merry *cannot* be repaired. Does this mean they'll have to get a new boat???? I admit I wouldn't be surprised. With so many crew members already it has to be getting crowded.

One Piece 101 will be out tonight. That's 5 days after 100 I think. :)

::looks at Shouta::... in those scary underground drug-infested networks. So stay away kids! for your sake!

*bump*

Episode 101 is out!

and guess what? a new translator is joining the team. He's a student in japan. I really hope this guy as an extra translator and not filling in some one else's shoes for leaving. If that's true, we can definitely expect faster releases since I think (though not sure..) translation is the hardest part of fansubbing.

Alright! This is the way to celebrate a (mostly) successful climb of Mt. Fuji. With new One Piece!

By the way, Mt. Fuji is a hell of a lot harder to climb than it looks. But near the top it starts to look like friggin' Mars. So very, very cool.

101 was just so-so. Saved by lots of Ace. Luffy and Ace sure do have an interesting dynamic, don't they?

No more Ace?! Aww, man. But he was so cool! Oh well, he will very obviously be back.

It looks like the anime will finally rejoin the manga regarding the story of Arabasta. The arc with Ace was really weird and all the filling episodes killed the humour you get in the manga.

Ace owns big time though.
I also expected the departure moment, when Ace talks about the Pirate Summit. I want to know more about that "higher level" of piracy.

Yeah, hopefully a new translator will mean faster releases!

Although I admit, I'm impressed that they've squeezed out 3 episodes in about a week and a half. I'd still like to see them come faster, but it could be a lot worse. At least after this episode we'll get back to the actual storyline.

Still about 30 episodes until I need to start worrying... thank god. After that massive mame DL, snagging anime is low on my list of priorities anyway. :)

Man, the dem Pirate (yarrrr!) guys are on a roll lately.

Edit: Man, if you guys don`t get the joke in this edit, I don`t know what you WILL get ;p
-Shouta

It was a good episode for filler, at least.

Gave more insight into the feelings of some of the crew members even if nothing really got accomplished.

Movie 3 comes next week, so I don't know if K-F is planning a regular release for next week, as well.

I got kind of bored with the story at around episode 100, and then got interested again at 115.

Except for Sanji raping those huge crocs.

Sanji > Zoro

Yeah, that episode was still filler, but that was really well done and a great episode all around.

Luffy was HILARIOUS, and it's nice to see Chopper get some face time, which has been somewhat lacking since they reached Arabasta.

Besides, there's something cool about an episode where the Straw Hat Pirates are the ONLY characters in the episode (unless you want to count Ero-Rakuda separately).

All around, a very nice episode that made me feel happy, which is all I can really ask for, filler or no. But now it's time to get down to business already. Time to get the real story rolling. :)

Good filler episode. With all of the big actions going on for the past 100 episodes, it's good to sometime just stop and reflect upon things.

Yeah, and double thumbs up for actually covering Zoro. I mean, from here on, the guy only shows up for fights and his moral calamity whenever the sword-girl appears. Even Oda seems to be slacking on resolving that situation.

I also thought it was cool in general to show how dedicated he was to Luffy (and simultaneously rethinking his position). We often see how Sanji and Nami are dedicated, but Zoro is usually too busy polar-bear diving, weight lifting, or hibernating to appear.

Luffy hallucinating about Crocodile was priceless.

In any case, now that the storyline picks up again, I hope everybody is ready. When it comes to taking down Baroque Works, once the action gets started, it takes a long time to stop!

Believe me, I'm ready. I mean considering the last major "fight" was against Wapol it would be nice to get into some action again (even though we still have a little while before getting into the actual fights).

Did some quick retroactive editing. Being in Japan gimps the editing time. However, like I said in Metatron`s edit. If you guys don`t get the joke, I don`t know what joke you will get ;p.

I like the 101 filler ep, expect for one thing, Luffy has never seen Crocodile before. Other than that, I liked it. I just hope Luffy vs Crocodile is as good animated as it is in the manga.

Some people complained about that on Arlong Park, too.

I don't see it as a plot hole. If you're hallucinating, you're going to see whatever your mind wants you to see and if your mind tells you that Crocodile looks like a cactus, you can't do anything about it. It doesn't matter that Luffy doesn't know what Crocodile looks like, it only matters what he THINKS Crocodile looks like, and THAT is what he was seeing.

LOL, whoops, forgot all about that little rule Shouta. :)

Japan does strange things to the mind, you know.

Grrrrrr!!! Where's my damn One Piece?! K-F is being so slow right now. Its been a week and a half and still no Movie 3 or new episode. Figures that they slow down *right* when they get out of the filler. :| I was hanging out in their channel for awhile a couple days ago and I heard that they're hung up on the next episode because they are DEBATING whether Ms. Merrychristmas is ONE WORD or TWO. Why? Well, because if they don't get it right, the retarded collective of anime uberfandom will come down on their asses for getting a single word wrong. Seriously, now, the difference is between Merrychristmas or Merry Christmas. That is ONE space and ONE capital letter causing such a big delay. If that isn't anal, I don't know what is, but there is no wrath like that of a fanboy scorned. :P

I still can't freaking understand why K-F is the ONLY group doing One Piece. It's one of the biggest anime out there and shows like Samurai 7, champloo, and chrno crusade are being subbed by SEVERAL GROUPS. Why the hell sub champloo episode 3 while everybody is at 6? do they really think their subs are THAT much better? comprisons showed there's not much difference between the translation and the quality in most cases is the same. WTF?

K-F should offer other groups to join them. Each group can work on 5 episode batches so when K-F finishes 103-107 the other group takes 108-112 and so on. There are so many One Piece fans and yet out of those only a select few are fansubbers. it's really sad. :(

I really wish they would get into gear. They promised the movie and didn't deliver, and the delay is only further pushing back new episodes. They were going at such a good pace too.

By the way, there's something called "Going Merry Round the Grand Line: Luffy vs. Moumu" starting on Saturday 7/17 and running through 8/31 in Odaiba. I don't know what it is since I can't read kanji and the majority of the Japanese language is still a mystery to me, but the map on the poster I saw seemed to indicate that it might involve the real Going Merry. I shall hopefully investigate in greater detail on Monday or at some other point next week.

meta's post gave me an idea: if I learn japanese I'll be able to watch all the anime I want with no reliance on fansubbers... and of course I would have learned a whole new langauge. How cool is that? so I go to cdJapan and search for One Piece DVDs... just out of curiousty. guess what? It's 41 dollars for a 3 episode DVD WTF!?

-Probably 'cause it was thought to be licensed (and it is now) - most groups don't want the "man" on their ass

-It's too damn long -No one really knows how long the show will be 300eps? 400eps? 500eps?!

-I don't think it's that popular, at least, not as popular as Naruto. So you don't have the constant stream of new groups picking it up ~ I hear some of them are really horrible.

Dude Samurai Champloo is licensed and yet two BIG groups are subbing it. I'm talking about those.

-It's too damn long -No one really knows how long the show will be 300eps? 400eps? 500eps?!

Who said they have to finish it? If a group picks up One Piece now, do they have to translate eisodes 1-102? no. They're fansubbers, they're doing it out of love for anime and for the fans. And that also means they don't have to finish it. There are no contracts here. Just a bunch of anime fans doing something voluntarily. When they get bored they can stop. When they have finals they can stop. Whenever they want they can quit.

-I don't think it's that popular, at least, not as popular as Naruto. So you don't have the constant stream of new groups picking it up ~ I hear some of them are really horrible.

Yeah it's not as popular as naruto. But neither is Samurai 7. Hell it's not even CLOSE to naruto and look how many freaking groups are doing it. Is it because it's a short series? then why not do only 26 episodes of One Piece?

That's cheaper than the DVDs' street prices here in Japan. I've checked it out. They're about $45 each. DVDs in general run between $40-50 here in Japan. A bargain/budget price is something like $25-30, and as of yet, I've found no places with budget priced One Piece DVDs.

CDs are in the $30 range here too. At least, those are "normal" prices, but it is possible to find deals sometimes.

Where are you talking about? If you're talking about the US, then you might be right. If you are talking about Japan, then you are WAY off. I'd say the order of popularity in Japan right now, based off of personal observation, goes: 1) Full Metal Alchemist 2) One Piece 3) Naruto 4) Dragonball Z (DBZ is still everywhere).

Of course, if you take the entire Gundam universe as a single entity, then Gundam VASTLY overshadows anything and everything else out there. By a mile.
