I just finished reading 344. OMG you guys weren't kidding about Water 7. :D

One Piece is on a whole new level!

Ok. Now I'm starting to worry less that One Piece, the treasure, is just a message from Gold Roger about friendship and nakama and the spirit of adventure and blah blah blah. The man could read the glyphs! He KNEW about at least the weapon told about in the skypiea glyph. Could One Piece has something to do with the true history? It can't be a weapon, as Roger himself would've used it. It also can't be some kind of savior that starts some new era because, again, why would he just leave it some where in the grand line?

I should take a breath because this might go on for another 5 years at least. :lol Hajime no Ippo crossed 70 volumes. OP sold over 100 million copies of manga so if Oda wanted to, he has the fan base and support to keep doing One Piece for a long time...

And just some other stuff I feel like blabbering about…

- Franky, He’s cool but he lost all that mystery and ‘badass coolness’ when he turned into some clown. That was unexpected. I also feel uneasy about those popeye arms. =\ He still rocks. :p

- Robin. Finally we know what that bitch is about. Actually, the fact that she doesn’t care about those weapons means that all she wants is to know about is history, but I still don’t like her. She’s hot though. :o

- I have a feeling Usopp will return to the crew when they save him from franky. That just sucks. It reminds me of Karou in kenshin ~spoilers~ turning out NOT to be dead. There was too much of a big deal made about usopp and the going merry for everything to go back smoothly.

That said, I think the set up to usopp’s departure was one of the most dramatic things I’ve read. The humiliation by the frankies and then indirectly by his own crew when they kicked ass once again while he was on the side line; the Going Merry dying and luffy leaving it. Everything just came together. Oda proved he’s a master story teller.

Whew. That was a huge post. Time to read more chapters now. :p

Ah, finally caught up with the manga now – all the way to chapter 354. :D

I think 355 and 356 are out but not by the ‘quality’ group. I’ll check them out later tonight.

- I’m convinced usopp will return now. I just hope he grows some balls this time.

- Luchi = coolest One Piece badass EVER.

- Franky = new crew member!? I thought it’d be pauli but with the flashbacks I don’t know. He hates luffy right now and I can’t see how someone like him will ‘lower’ himself to being under luffy’s command. If the flashbacks go back to his childhood though we might see those pirate parents or whoever they are; they might shed some light on whatever reason will be for him joining.

Whatever happens, the straw hats definitely will get a new crew member. They’re in the right place and the right time. Besides, luffy decided and nothing can stop him lol.

- About that power thing. Yeah, I really don’t see what the hell Oda is gonna do. I’m kinda worried actually. Luffy can’t just get angrier and stronger and beat everybody. The CP9 are just way too powerful. They owned him pretty good. Never mind the blue pheasant. Makes me wonder how luffy and his crew will reach the ‘next level’ because it looks impossible now. Franky also got owned. >_>

*sigh*

Now I’m waiting a whole week for 18 pages and hunting down raws for any piece of info. Dammit.

About the only thing you can do now Chrono is either sit and wait, or pick up yet another manga series and do the same thing. There are lots of series to recommend. :D

manga.

Any of you guys saw this color image of Franky!? It was on the arlong park forums so you probably have but it needs to be posted!
<--- if anime only fans want to check this out, it's not that big of a spoiler. Just a cool manga character in color.

I thought he was blond but the blue hair = awesome. I really want him to join the crew now! He doesn't seem to be stronger than luffy too and with the flashbacks it's making more sense that he will be the next straw hat pirate. I wish I could have a franky avatar. >_<;

And if usopp were to return I want him to be a SNIPER. That's a S-N-I-P-E-R with an actual GUN; s sniping rifle or pistol. Franky knows weapons so he could make him or buy him good ones. Please please Oda make that happen.

Seriously now, I actually did NOT check out raws or text translations for 355/356. I saw the text and read a little then stopped. That's it. I'm going to read One Piece like sane people do. I'll go through each chapter's pages without having seen them or read any major revelations from summaries.

I did it with One Piece, and now I'll do it with Naruto and Gantz.

Now if only those guys do a double release for 355/356...

About the only thing you can do now Chrono is either sit and wait, or pick up yet another manga series and do the same thing. There are lots of series to recommend. :D

I'm not touching Bleach! :D

I have Ippo volumes 34+ and will start reading them soon. For all the other big manga I'm waiting for official volume releases since they were licensed. I’m talking about Beck, 20th Century Boys, and Hunter X Hunter. Checked out your manga recommendations on your blog and got Blame! but deleted it because of the OVA coming soon, and I'm not really interested in Yakitate or other cooking stuff. :p

Yep. Arlong Park's guide has ending 9 at episode 133.

Btw anybody know where I can d/l Endings/Openings? I can get the mp3s but I want the videos.

I know a place, but you have to register an account first & it's also in German. Plus the videos are in real media format. But they do have most of the OP/ED vids, all the way up to the current episodes. :P

Thanks for the links. :D

It looks like the One Piece team LOVES spoiling everything. If you thought Nico Robin was bad, wait until they introduce Water Seven characters in the last OP. Not just that but ~ MANGA SPOILERS ~
they show the blue pheasant using his devil fruit power against the straw hats too.

*shakes head*

Well they managed to at least keep
Franky
under wraps, and I don't seem to recall
Franky house exploding at any point in the manga
. But the shots of
Kaku jumping from dock 1 & the Lucci/Paulie fighting, was kick arse.

Probably my favorite OP in the series so far.

133 tomorrow night. :(

I really wish they just stop telling us to expect episodes a day or two before the release date. Just update the irc channel/site a few hours before the episode is out, or at least when you know it's ready. -__-

eh, just watched 132 and 133. Most boring episodes ever. -__-

<3 the new ED though.

Just 10 more episodes of filler...

I think you'd hate these filler much more if you've read the manga.

Also, don't forget they have to work on these episodes for hours so it must be more painful to them. :lol

:lol

That is definitely true.

Anyway, I just enjoy the characters. They're all strong personalities, and even when they're not doing anything particularly interesting, they're still usually enjoyable to watch. I'd rather have real plot going on, but I don't mind One Piece fillers too much unless they're REALLY bad (i.e. episodes 99 and 101).

I just wish there weren't SOOOOOOOOO many of them. :(

Chapter 355 should be out in about 5 or so minutes.

Finally. I'm starting to hate naruto and gantz because they're scantlated fast while One Piece suffers. OP deserves better. :(

[Edit]

Sweet chapter.
I'm loving the flashbacks. More story please! Though I wouldn't mind if it was split in two halves, where the other covers Franky and how he died/turned to a cyborg because i really want to know how they get out of the pinch they're in now. Aqua Laguna? I'd be disappointed if that's their way out. Sooner or later the straw hats must deal with CP9.

Note: If anyone would like justification for why this episode is so bad, please consult One Piece 054, 10:02. ;)

Did anybody check that out? All my OP episodes are on blank CD-R's some where, I can't find episode 54. :(

Since I skipped 132/133, dunno what the comparison is, but 54 is
from the filler arc with the giant marine ship and dragon. Basically one big yawner. The time-value has Luffy eating madly at the table while the little girl looks on and Sanji lectures both of them. I imagine the site reference is to the line at that moment:

"Well I made it, ya' know."

So probably just a funny disparaging comment against their own KF productions. *shrug*

hmm I liked the dragon arc. I don't mind fillers if they're good (like 131 -- the chopper episode).

What I don't get is why the hell they can’t just STOP the anime for a few months instead. You'd think with all those fans who watched 220+ OP episodes, they wouldn’t have to worry about people forgetting OP. >_>;

Because in Japan, when you stop something like that, it's over. As far as I know, the country doesn't have the super dragged-out, repeat filled seasons of American TV. People forget about finished shows and watch something else.

One Piece, filler or not, is a TV show with such a respectable ratings draw for its audience that it can keep airing as long as new episodes are made, and act as a lead-in for other, more risky shows if need be. Based on how Naruto and Prince of Tennis sometimes trade up for a timeslot, I imagine Naruto may have received a boost early on (as PoT is another long runner).

134 tonight.

After that we'll have 9 more episodes to go.

It's out now.

Confirmed from irc channel: 134 scores only ONE Apis!

"Amidst the darkness...

There was no hope...

The filler surrounded us, with no end in sight.

Could nothing save us from this cruel fate of terrible filler?

I didn't like last week's chapter, but this one is really good. It's a prime example of why One Piece is so popular.

Great chapter, I've really enjoyed
Tom's flashback so far. It seems like Franky's ambition is to build a dream ship, like Roger's ship the Oro Jackson, that could sail to the ends of the Grand line & back. If you go back to ch.229 Franky briefly mentions something about a dream & how that stolen 200 million belli will finally help realize that dream.

So obviously Franky planned to build this dream ship all along, I guess as a sort of tribute to Tom. Also Franky's death is finally revealed, poor guy tried to stop Spandam from taking Tom to Eneas Lobby to be executed, but unfortunately the Puffing the Tom was in the way of that, though it was a pretty fuckin' ballsy thing to do.

Anyways, I hope Franky joins, though it's looking more & more likely that Franky will build & perhaps Pauly will join as the crews shipwright.

Yeah that was a good episode. So the next one is Zorro filler right? That should be good!

And no scantlations for 356/357 make me sad. :(

Naruto and Gantz both get translated within 2-3 days. Why not One Piece which is better than both! *weeps*

Um, I guess that episode was tolerable, not a lot better than the last episode. But as filler goes, it was ok. I'd give it, 2/5 Apises.

Damn! Jaya feels so.... far away. :(

They really, really need to. Its gotten to the point where I don't anticipate a new subbed episode. I've had 32 and 33 on my HD for awhile now and just got around to watching them last night.

I just got back from seeing the 6th One Piece movie and I'll give some thoughts.

I love love love the OP manga, but from my experiences the movies have not been so hot. I only made it about 1/3rd through movie 1 before giving up, I watched movie 2 and thought it was kinda bad, same with movie 3 except it was worse. Skipped movie 4/5 since I figured it would be like 2/3 but decided to watch movie 6 because the art style was bizarre and I was curious.

Now my main problems with the earlier One Piece movies and manga/TV show movies in general is that they usually feel like a 3-part filler that could have aired on TV. Usually they have crappy stories, terrible villians, and by the book fights.

But One Piece #6 actually feels like a feature-length film!

The best part about it was that the story was good! It tricks you into thinking it's a happy filler from the trailer since the story starts with them going to a resort island and getting involved in a competition (for the first 30-40mins I kept thinking this was a complete rip off of the foxy arc and was like 'why?'), but the movie does turn around and by the end it's one of the darkest stories in OP. The characters are written great and are totally in character throughout. There are a lot of entertaining dialogues between the characters that match up with quality of the manga.

Another thing is the animation which seems like it was done by a brand new team trying to do a artsy college film type thing. The character designs are bizarre and look kinda like french animation or shorts that you see at film festivals. Very little detail on them and sometimes people are missing eyes/noses/mouths. The character's don't even look the same from scene to scene. But in return for the wierd designs you get a ton of motion. Everyone is always moving and the motion is fluid and really pleasing to the eye. There's a lot of nice camera angles and artistic frame setups throughout the film which really make it a neat watch. The only down point is there is a 3d fish in the movie which looks awful and does not match the 2d AT ALL. Otherwise the 3d CG stuff usually worked.

Going with the changes to animation is a huge change in music. While like all the OP animation stuff has tons of nice music, there is almost no music in this film. It's wierd because you'll expect music but it'll be silent and just the sound effects. Definitely seems like a new team working on it.

So in the end I'd say it's by FAR the best One Piece film (having not seen #4/5), and not only that but I'll say it's better than the manga Foxy arc (even with the Kiji fight). It's still not quite at the level of 'real' anime films like the Bebop movie or any of Kon Satoshi's works, but it's not too far behind. A little tightening up of the script/direction, adding a few more battles, and putting the blood of the manga into it and it really could've stood as it's own film regardless of being One Piece. But as it is, it's a great watch for One Piece fans.

btw, can anyone list movies 1-5? I'm not sure which ones I've seen now as I thought the new one was #5 but just found out it's really #6.

One Piece Movie 1 (Doesn't seem to have a title)
One Piece: Movie 2 - Clockwork Island Adventure
One Piece: Movie 3 - Chopper's Kingdom of Strange Animals
One Piece: Movie 4 - The Dead End Adventure
One Piece: Movie 5 - The Cursed Holy Sword

One Piece 135 is out!

Starring the Fullmetal Alchemist, Edward Elric!

And
Johnny and Yosaku!

One Piece 135 scores ONE APIS

The raw of Chapter 358 is out!

The Tom flashback ends mid-chapter, with CP9 taking Franky away to Eneas Lobby to speak with their boss, drumroll............ Spandam! Gosh, who didn't see that coming from a mile away. Anyways chapter concludes with Chopper saving Iceburg & Pauly from the burning Galley-la headquarters.

Urgh! Why am I getting this terrible Oda-like feeling, that Tom may still be alive?

Chopper fucking rocks! He looks so bad-ass in that one panel! Anyway, why do I get the feeling that this arc may not end in Water 7, but in Eneas Lobby? Either that or it will segue directly into it. I liked the flashback, but I'm also glad things are finally back on track. There's just so much yet to do and see in this arc to meander along a flashback for 3-4 chapters.

manga

a few points
1. how could franky repair himself? perhaps that whole "ship spirit" thing helped. remember, Oda doesn't put useless facts into his stories.

2. I really like Spandam's second design. it's a good transition from fool -> sadistic-looking enemy.

3. Belfast - all signs point that way. Franky was probably at that station with the money. So..

Yeah, I was wondering what he might have done with the money at Enies Lobby. It wasn't until later that we found out that was the next stop on the Sea Train, so its likelly where Franky went. There's speculation that Tom is still alive. Was he trying to bribe or buy Tom's freedom? Was he trying to save himself from a similar fate? I definitely think that money that he spent ties directly into something in his life. I don't think its something retarded like "oh, he wants to build Pluton" or whatever. He used it for something he honestly felt was benevolent and worthy. Or maybe he just spent it on soda and whores!

Anybody read the Romance Dawn manga special? I'm not sure if it was even by Oda or a fan.

Luffy gets his hat from his grandpa, who happens to be a pirate and encourages luffy to discover the sea. Then he eats the gomu-gomu fruit that his grandpa shows him. Shanks isn't anywhere the entire chapter.
