I wonder how long it will take for Enel (why didn't k-f use Eneru?) to appear, I know this arc is pretty long, so I expect a epic like Arabasta :)

I don't think it's set in stone just yet, this IS Oda we're dealing with here afterall. But, I would think this almost closes the door on shipwright debate.

158 rocked.

Luffy actually acting like a captain (well...sometimes, anyway). Plenty of comedy. God coolness. And a polka dot Pegasus. Sweet.

Water7 is awesome :)

ch379 spoiler

Luffy vs Lucci
Zorro vs Kaku
Sanji vs Jabura
Robin vs Blueno
Franky vs Kumadori
Chopper vs Fukurou
SogeKing/Usop vs Spandam
Nami vs Khalifa

so far Water 7 > Arabasta > Skypia :)
Im pretty sure Franky will be against Spandam but the rest seems very likely. As for the arc then Water 7 > Arabasta >>> Skypia (well to be fair I watched it with those crappy subs)

Yup Yup. Really loving the Water 7 Arc. Anime is almost caught up with it too.

Water 7 > Arlong > Alabasta > Skypia > Pre Arlong

Dont read unless you read the manga

Up until the CP9 arc, Ive been wondering what was so special about Shanks and the rest of his crew. I mean, compared to luffy's crew they seemed pretty normal. But after seeing the CP9 in action it showed me that normal humans can do some pretty super human things. I wonder if any of shanks crew had any training like the CP9 or even Black Beard who didnt look strong at all.

Well, screw it. I guess that I'll just start reading the manga. Is it OK to ask where I can pick it up online, or is that verboten?

Just started watching this show thanks to the positive things I've heard around the net. I have the first 20 episodes of the K-F fansub.

Is there anything I need to know, getting started? I found a guide telling me where the movies and specials fit in, so I can view things in the right order, which is the only noob-type thing I knew to look up.

Anything else you guys can think of offhand?

EDIT - Is K-F skipping episodes? A glance at their site implies that they might be...

1. Movies and specials are filler. Considering the sheer number of arcs and episodes you have yet to watch, skipping filler would be a good thing.
2. They haven't skipped anything; they're just pretty far behind right now at ep 160 (japanese broadcast raw is up to 240+)
3. After around 40 eps the show begins its trend of filler arc / manga arc / repeat. So there are numbered eps you can skip too. Like anything with Apis.
4. If you somehow exhaust the supply, there is another group doing a not so bad job with the Davyback arc (~200s) and a third group doing a great job with the Water7 arc (~230s)

Thanks for the advice. I'm not really in any kind of hurry or timetable to get through it, so I don't really see myself skipping the arcs that are considered filler, but its good to know that I can, if I do decide that I want to :)

KF released some OVA from '98 today.

for the last few weeks I've been watching the fansub versions for the first time. I'm all the way up to 120. I can't believe they cut out such good stuff for the dub! Oh, and DAMN! Usopp got his ass kicked in 114-115! Good thing he's got a quick wit or he'd be done for.

See, we don't make this stuff up. :D

That OVA was really weird. Like watching an alternate universe One Piece. It actually pre-dates the anime and was basically the pilot for the series. It wasn't even done by Toei but rather Production I.G. and was funded completely by Shounen Jump. Which explains why all the voice actors were different.

Very cool, though. I thank our not-to-be-named distributors greatly for bringing us something that I didn't even know existed.

Now if they'll just get friggin' 161 out.

I'd just like to say that the new episodes of the water 7 arc are great. I really like the serious tone they set for the current sequence. and they haven't left out the comic bits either though they're not so prevalent at the current time... even though i've read it, it's worth watching

up to 243, btw

I think it'll come back to Water 7 before all is said and done. I mean, if they're going to get a new ship or something, its going to have to be built there and so on. There has to be resolution with Iceburg, as well. It'll all come back around to Water 7, I guarantee.

Great... I can't wait to see the Pirate Conference Arc... but the best thing about the Enies Lobby sub arc is that... everyone in the Mugiwara crew will surely have bounties afterwards... cool!

So I just started watching this series.

Just about to watch ep 24 (Don Krieg's ship just got cut in half etc.) and I'm really starting to get into it. At first I wasn't all that interested and thought I'd stop watching it but then it got to the Captain Kuro eps (dude with the cat claws). What an awesome villain. Not to mention there are some genuinely funny moments where I chuckle (a rare thing when I watch most animes). It's getting progressively better with each ep. Now I'm hooked.

Does it keep this level of awesomeness up further down the track?

You have no idea. You're about to dive into some fucking awesome arcs. Arlong and Arabasta have stunning payoffs that should hook you forever if there's any justice.

Oh yeah, and that Michael Jackson hypnotist was pretty damn funny

edit: how many eps are currently "out there"?

also, since I like this series what other similar types of animes would i like? Naruto perhaps?

243 episodes

And yeah Naruto would be a wise choice if you like One Piece

Ch. 385 is out.

Kaku & Calipha have both eaten a Devil's Fruit. Meanwhile, Blueno has quite literally rearranged Luffy's face! :P

btw...
Bon-Clay is back!!!!! well in the cover story at least. ;)

just saw arlong get his ass kicked. wasn't he meant to be harder than don krieg? luffy seemed to have an easier time beating arlong then he did krieg.

Luffy's power is directly proportional to how much he wants to help his shipmates / how emotional he gets :P

I'd say that's about right. He also was a lot more clever about how he fought Arlong (at least after he got freed from the stone that he kind of stupidly stuck himself into) than with how he fought Krieg.

Luffy's power for all intents and purposes never really "increases" as the series goes on, unlike basically every other shounen series like this, where the object is to "power up." He simply gets more and more creative and intelligent about how he uses the power he has.
