Yep, that's one the cute things about this series. Only Luffy's brain -- rarely his strength -- goes Super Saiyan during his epic battles, even against foes that should SERIOUSLY destroy him (Crocodile and even Eneru, although Luffy's powers directly counteracted Eneru's).

When he's uncertain that his friends are in immediate danger, he's a bit of a pussy -- see the Smoker fight and the initial CP9 fights. Aokiji: well, Aokiji's still a significant notch above Luffy in both brains AND ability, and he's not necessarily evil (yet).

Luffy's power for all intents and purposes never really "increases" as the series goes on, unlike basically every other shounen series like this, where the object is to "power up." He simply gets more and more creative and intelligent about how he uses the power he has.

He is getting stronger; the series is just subtle about it. Remember when mihawk showed up? I don't think luffy could've beaten him no matter how much he wants to help his friends. The dude took on zoro with a pocket knife. :lol

Technically, if Luffy learns better use of his abilities, he gets stronger. Whatever creative ideas he had used in his previous fights, he will definitedlu use again in his future fights if it is appropiate.

Translation has been out for a day or two already. You just need to look on a particular One Piece forum for it. (no not KF)

Not much to translate though, it's just the continuation of the big Enie Lobby free for all battle. Spamdam is teasing Franky and Robin but then gets a really bad report of the situation over the "phone" and start realizing the seriousness of the situation and becomes dead scared. Good stuff

Aokiji: well, Aokiji's still a significant notch above Luffy in both brains AND ability, and he's not necessarily evil (yet).
Nah I dont think Aokiji is gonna become evil at any point in the series. At least I hope not, it's kinda refreshing to see a "good guy villain" as well as a powerful non corrupted government official

Just anyone watch other "other" fansubs?

The ones that are on episode 244, which by the way rocks. The water 7 arc is by far the best arc so far :)

The mp4 version is so much better it's not even funny, especially at full screen. It's sharper, the color is richer, there's much less loss, and the file size is the same. The only negative is that it uses a little more processing power. Even still, on my comp it's only the difference between using 7-15% of the CPU for the avi and using 20-25% for the mp4.

So I'm happy.

i say nay to .mp4. i value accessibility over super hq. i can see this as a big screw over to the fans who still want to watch but can't upgrade their computers to do so and i'm anticipating they'll have to revert back to dual relases. and if anything, they should've used the new codec to make file sizes smaller to save bandwidth and shorten retrieval times.

Is there any word on how well XBMC handles mp4? I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. If I can't play OP through XBMC anymore, I guess I'll have to setup a VLC stream... pain in the ass.

Smoker was just the sort of situation where fighting didn't make much sense, though. He couldn't get to the "this is how to beat him" stage because of Dragon screwing everything up.

Isn't Smoker another one of those "he's not really evil but he's a villain" characters?

Pretty much; he's sort of like the replacement for Coby in terms of giving the Straw Hat's a sort of implication to their adventuring, and showing off the double-faced nature of the Marines (Smoker in particular is struggling with that concept). As fun as that is though, the hilight of any marine catch-up arc would have to be Zoro finally hunkering down to figure out the doppleganger issue, instead of just getting the hell out of dodge.

Ch. 387 spoilers

So is Luffy going to get Fire powers like his brother ACE!? That would allow him to take on Kiji on level ground, though I dunno how they'd explain it since akumi no mi powers aren't hereditary.

Still, this is like one the biggest events in the manga in quite some time since it's going to completely change Luffy's abilities and fighting style. Can't wait to see next weeks (assuming they don't ignore Luffy)

Yeah, basically he learned how to vulcanize himself (vulcanizing rubber, of course, makes it stronger). Its all about what Croc said, and what Lucci said to an extent...the whole "making full use of your devil fruit" kind of thing. Luffy finally gets it, and what's more, its COMPLETELY PLAUSIBLE.

Chapter 388 is out :O

Gear power! Blueno down, it was predictable. And Jet Pistol, Jet Bazooka... really awesome
:)

387:

i'm more worried about how he doesn't consider his crew to be strong. maybe it was a just a mistranslation. or maybe it's luffy's simple mind that only considers those that are even or greater than him to be strong and everybody else weak. and then i got to thinking back to drum island where luffy and zoro were gonna duke it out..
interesting times...

manga.

Enies Lobby = weak. So much for a world government super prison fortress.

When I first saw those devil fruits I thought they'll end up with the straw hats. Guess not. :(

Luffy's new power is cool but how did he level up to CP9's level even before the super saiyan stuff? He was avoiding blueno's soru and breaking his tekkai. Just hours before that at the mansion he was helpless. I guess it's a just a manga but the burden is now on the other crew members. Either something has to happen or they'll just magically power up. I was hoping they'd power up with the devil fruits spandam had but they're gone now.

The other crew members don't need devil fruits. They're strong enough as it is, and I'd like it to stay that way. As for Luffy, remember that he catches on to new techniques REALLY quick, he just needs to get the idea for them (see his windmill attack after seeing the pinwheel on Gen's hat at Arlong Park). I believe his new attacks are fueled by some manipulation of force and air, which is what some of the CP9 attacks are based off of.

As I understand it, Luffy's figured out how to "vulcanize" his rubber body (maybe by heating himself up metabolically or something) -- which naturally increases rubber's tensile strength massively, allowing him to "snap" harder (hence the high-speed "jet" attacks) and to take WAY more damage.

I still to this day say that Wind Waker was heavily influenced by One Piece. :D
oh hell yeah, that's for sure.

anyway..... hole-eeeee fuckeeeen sheeeet is Ace cool. That steam powered boat fueled by his own fire ability is just awesome. Please tell me there more of Ace and his "skateboarding" boat to come.

He's in a few more filler episodes, then you won't see him again for another 40 or so episodes. Apart from his mini cover story, he hasn't shown up since in the manga.

So yeh, you won't be seeing a lot of Ace in the near future. ;_;

I'm watching ep. 135 now, how much more filler am I going to have to sit through =(

Still a great series though.

Still 8 episodes to go, and no, it doesn't get any better. I'd just go straight to ep 144, which is the beginning of the Jaya arc (manga canon).

Yeah, I agree. In fact, the filler gets far worse than what you've seen so far. Just skip ahead to 144.

A good theory but he'd lose flexibility. If you look at the frames shortly before it looks like
he's coiling his muscles into springs, which would have added strength and still retain flexibility

The latest manga RAW has come out and with it
the Nico Robin flashback has started OMG OMG

Unfortunely no chapter next week. :(

Manga 390:

Awesome!

FInally the showdown begins! Can't wait to see who get paired up with who. That last page gave me goosebumps. Sanji is such a fucking badass! This is what comics are all about.

Well, I hope so too. But you can't really blame them for being a little slow as of late, especially considering that one of their staff members' grandparents were murdered recently.

okay, I finished the Arabasta arc a few eps ago and finished the old Goat Guy (built a pirate ship on top of a mountain) ep.... how many more filler eps are there to go till a new arc begins? starting to get bored now :(

Well, if you want to skip the filler then skip to 144

Am I the only one having trouble playing the 167 .mp4 file? Its constantly freezing on me. If its working fine for you what codec are you using?
