Overlooked Wii gems

Lost_in_Shadow_box_art.png

If anyone has played this, how do you feel about it?

It's a decent platformer but it won't blow you away or anything. It's actually a really long game, and late in the game you unlock a new ability that lets you enter the 3rd dimension via these gates that you had been running past for the entire game, which basically opens up an entire new world of puzzles and gameplay mechanics for what had up to that point been a fairly standard 2D platformer.

Any great light gun games anyone can recommend? They seem to be overlooked. I was going through a Wii light gun phase right before the Wii U came out. I have Ghost Squad and Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns.

The two Nerf N-Strike games actually aren't bad. Especially the second one, subtitled Elite, which is more like a traditional lightgun shooter on a rail. (The first has a few traditional sections, but a lot of minigame-ish lightgun sections, too.) In fact, I like the gun shells that come with these games better than Nyko's.

Dead Space: Extraction is very good. Good graphics for the Wii, great atmosphere, fun.

House of the Dead: Overkill is awesome as long as you accept that the gratuitous profanity is a spoof of '70s grindhouse movies. I had a lot of fun with it. It has pretty good graphics and a great soundtrack, too.

I have both of these as well as NMH on the PS3 and they are significantly better in both graphics as well as controller (Move vs Wiimote is not even close). House of the Dead in 3D with a couple Sharpshooters is couch co op bliss. Better than an arcade.

Just an FYI for those either unaware or curious!

eh, I had much better experiences with both titles on the wii.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories

It's a game celebrated by many, but I would say it's "overlooked" 'cause a lot of Silent Hill fans poop on it. That shouldn't discourage anyone from playing it, though. It's brilliant.

Best game in the series after 3 and 1. I said it.

The increased percision of the Move, 3D, and HD graphics don't even make it a contest!

actually the move factually has less precision than the wiimote, the move actually is using something more equivalent to what nintendo used in skyward sword, whilst the wiimote has actual IR, actually meant for pointing and shooting.

That's what I was thinking. I had both games on the Wii and enjoyed them a heck of a lot. Controls were perfect.
Then got Dead Space as a freebie on PS3 and bought the Extended Cut of HOTD Overkill on PS3 as well and found that the controls really lack preciseness no matter if I use the official gun peripheral or just the move itself. Drift is also a huge problem with Move.
Really disappointing. Probably has to do with how big that ball is and how the motion sensors try to compensate for it. It just doesn't work how it should.

Haven't seen anyone mention Rabbids go Home yet. Such a quirky and fun little game. I personally think it's the best Rabbids game but that could have to do with the fact that it's not a mini game collection.

Already mentioned but worth repeating:

Silent Hill-Shattered Memories (masterpiece)
Little King's Story (kinda like Pikmen)
Endless Ocean 2 (it's a much more complete game than the first one)
ExciteTruck (one of the most addicitve racers ever, just a thrill)

Before I forget, for anyone that has a region free Wii and is somewhat of a fan of the Earth Defence Force games, or to be honest awesome games in general, hunt down a copy of Zangeki no Reginleiv!

One of my favourite games of the past generation and actually one of my favourite games ever. So incredibly awesome that I just bought a second copy of it just in case anything ever happens to my first one! :D

The Wii as a whole was a very under rated system. I'm going through this thread and copying down a bunch of games. Most of them I meant to check out but never got around to it. Some of them I own but have never played.

Love threads like this!

I've got a huge Wii collection and think it does have a number of overlooked/under-appreciated greats sadly.

My mind instantly went to My Life as a King, I had unnaturally amounts of fun with it. :D

GAF loves Excitebots thankfully but it is still grossly overlooked. :( Soooooooooooooo good.

I thought Day of Crisis was great too lol.

Heartbreaking that this was never localized. Maybe I'll mod my wii to get around region-locking someday.

I think the common criticism isn't that Wii had no games, just that no one bought them. At least if it's anyone with some sense!
This is even less sensical.

Wii has a tie ratio of 9 games per console. On average, everyone bought lots of games.

The criticism of the Wii having no games was somewhat true in that it has none of the big support. It was like a Cinema that got plenty of arthouse stuff, but only one distributor's blockbusters.

The increased percision of the Move, 3D, and HD graphics don't even make it a contest!
There's no increased precision for the pointer in move, it's actually worse. Better for waggle than a standard Remote, but not pointer.
And Overkill in particular really benefited from the SD crappiness as a reference to the exploitation films.

This is one of my favorite Wii games (Top 5 probably) that doesn't seem to get mentioned a whole lot. Much better than Assault Horizon at least.

Kororinpa: I never played one of these rolling ball games, but I loved this. Have yet to play the sequel.

FlingSmash: auto-scrolling ball slinging game. I quite enjoyed it, but it only clicked when I started going for Platinum medals. The controls work quite well once you get used to them, but ocassionaly they will misjudge one of your swings.

Ivy the Kiwi: auto-scrolling chicken slinging game. Again, the game didn't really click until I played the time trial mode and got the gold medals.

ExciteTruck: the first time I tried it I couldn't get used to the controls, but I picked it up again like a year or two later and played the crap out of it. Still have bots in the backlog.

Castlevania Adventure Rebirth: great classic style CV.

Wario Ware DIY Showcase: if you don't care about creating games, the included micro games are pretty good and you can download more. I boot it up and play the Gamer mix every once in a while.

MotoHeroz: I'm the only one that ever mentions this game, one of my favorite WiiWare titles. It's from the makers of Trials, but with a more platformy focus which is right up my alley.

Fluidity: great puzzle platformer with a non-linear approach. Only annoying thing is having to waggle to jump on ice mode, but other than that it's ace.

Snowpack Park: not the best game ever, but if you like simulation games like Animal Crossing or Skip games, this might be up your alley. Plus who doesn't like penguins?

Blaster Master Overdrive: never played the previous games much, so can't compare, but I quite liked this one. Overhead cave sections weren't my favorite (especially cause you got to take them very slowly or you're going to be overwhelmed), but I didn't hate them either. Just wish there were less of them.

Neutral: LostWinds (decent games, but they don't stand out in any way)
Didn't like: Zack & Wiki (too much trial & error in long levels is not a good thing, waggle can get annoying at times), Dewey's Adventure (controls drove me crazy),

If anyone has played this, how do you feel about it?

It's a good platformer with some light puzzle aspects, but it goes on for way, way too long. It's really slow paced so it got pretty tedious after a while. And if you're a completionist like me, you need to backtrack a lot after you beat the game to collect all the memories.

I remember a few years ago at some Japanese video game show (maybe TGS?) that some really cool looking games got announced. One game was in space and you controlled an astronaut and some other really neat looking games. Too bad they never came out for the console

I believe that was released and was made by the same guys behiind endless ocean, but it was only released in smaller 3rd world countries, probably as a test I guess
Sexy Poker.

That's on the wiiware? I should check for....reasons

How was Battalion Wars and Red Steel 2? Tempted to pick them up, since both can be gotten for pretty cheap these days.
I remember digging Red Steel 2 a ton during the first area but putting it aside in the middle of the second and never feeling the need to go back to it. Make of that what you will

Just got ExciteBots because of this thread (already had Sin & Punishment 2) but everything else seems SO expensive on Amazon :(

I really want those Kororinpa marble games now, they look awesome.

Really? I find a large amount of these games are way cheap on amazon, especially if u go used, rhythm heaven fever for instance and sky crawlers, I know for a fact that fragile dreams is like 20 new

Also got Rhythm Heaven Feaver, forgot to mention that.

But stuff like A Boy and His Blob, Deadly Creatures, and Endless Ocean 2 are super expensive :(

Ahh yeah I think I do remember EO2 being expensive, and its like a huge price hike compared to the 1st game that's still relatively cheap, deadly creatures I managed to get from a friend, had no idea it was expensive though

Not the best game ever, but a really fun little spin-off that came out early in the Wii's life cycle. Definitely worth a shot for any fans of Dragon Quest.

I loved this game. Incredibly fun and addictive but some of those secret boss fights really made my arm sore.
