Pachter: 'High PS3 price is killing Sony'

The real question is why journalist are they still calling him, he either has been totaly wrong or stating the obviuos..

Because regardless of what we think of his analysis, he is a paid analyst with a title. And a Journalist needs to quote a pro.

Read your own post again. Seriously, read it and understand what you're asking. Why would anyone keep talking if they are constantly repeating themselves? Who would do that besides attention whores who have fallen in love with the idea that they're a voice in the media.

Why do certain gaf posters repeat the same talking points over and over on this forum day in and day out (not aimed at you)? Because they are human.

So you are saying the PS3 is in third place because it has no games?

This and the price. If it were cheaper like the Wii which has no games either, it would most likely be selling more for the blu-ray alone.

If you want to complain at anybody complain at the site for going to the usual sources instead of different sources.

This is an excellent point. What I mean to say is:

This.

Why shouldn't we be pointing out this guy's hot air?

IT'S HIS JOB. There is no further explanation needed. I don't know what you do for a living, but I doubt you bail on your job requirements because you feel you've done it too many times.

It sounds like your equating Pachter's very serious analysis with random internet fucktards, and I agree with this position.

How would it have sub-par ports when the system the games are being ported from/to use DVD as well?

Lower memory pool (or at least harder to use) and CELL for starters. The reason cross platform games look better on the 360 have nothing to do with Blu-ray.

I don't see how it's possible that it's in his job description to come up with bullshit predictions and horribly obvious news like this. He even initiates these articles by sometimes sending different websites mails.

i will rephrase...

how journalist ask this guy, when he has such a shitty record... is he the only one out there?!?!

Yes , he is the only one willing to spend time marketing himself

But Pachter, this is what you said TWO DAYS AGO, talking about the 360 and PS3:

Im as big a 'BRING THE PRICE DOWN' fanboy as anybody else.

But has anyone seen the market? And how everyone is shaking in their boots because of Sony posting it's first annual loss in 14 years?

When there's articles like this:

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601080&sid=aFtygUfIy_JY&refer=asia

You expect Sony to follow the usual industry 'sell at a loss'. Yup, it would give them a fighting chance and increase profits in a few years.

But the way the economy is going, they can't take that risk.

They should have done it during better times.

The industry is bloated as it stands any way.

Microsoft and Nintendo create a perfect ying yang in the video game market. Once the XBox 360 houses a stronger catalogue of Japanese games, Sony's Playstation will be relegated to nothing more than a redundant horse in this race.

The problem is not the absolute price so much as it is the duration that 360 is allowed to stand at each price threshold unopposed.

I don't know how many of you are from the streets, like me, but what FoxHimself did by pointing out Pachter's shtick is called a BURN.

From the streets yo. From the streets.

But Pachter, this is what you said TWO DAYS AGO, talking about the 360 and PS3:

This is my last post in the thread because this is basically a troll thread imo but those two views aren't necessarily conflicting although it's an opinion I certainly don't share myself. There is (really was) a widespread belief that while the PS3 is suffering now but once it drops in price it will accelerate past the 360. Like I said I don't agree but that's where the view point comes from that the PS3 can be falling behind now but pull ahead in the future especially when you take into account other markets outside of the US.

I'm not saying the man can't be critcized especially for factual errors or inconsistency but master of the obvious isn't a great critique imo.

In addition when your profession at least in parts involves making predictions you are going to be wrong sometimes.

But if you want to keep your job you better be right more times than wrong

he has been all wrong since 2006 , besides the obvious of course

Agreed. I'm also bailing so you kids can get all your "He get's paid for this???" and "Welcome to obvious town, population Pachter" noise out of the way. Enjoy.

And btw what's the non obvious answer to why Sony is in third place?

Maybe it's things like this

Kaz Hirai said:
"We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?

Seriously! Well made machines that provide free online have NO PLACE in any market.

Neither do machines who have Blu-Ray. Where's that fucking gimmick going, right?

Pachter just shot himself in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about video game industry analysis (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in predicting the rising and setting of the sun where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in a gaming industry prediction, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Wedbush Morgan board members, after hearing about this, are not going to want to buy Pachter's analyses for any price, nor will they pay attention to anything he says anymore. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Pachter has alienated an entire company with this move.

Pachter, publicly apologize and tell us PS3 is at the perfect price point or you can kiss your job goodbye.
:lol

Good, I'm glad everyone is on the same page.

The big problem for Sony is the yen kicking the dollar and especially the euro's posterior has ate away whatever cost savings they've gotten.

I don't expect a price drop from them for quite a while.

Oh hey that sounds like the Wii.

Dyno said:

Empirical evidence, but I don't know a single person who has a BRD player besides a couple guys who own PS3s — and they don't even watch BRD movies. Gimmick indeed.

Despite NintendosBooger's obvious bias (thanks to his name) I think he just spoke the truth that no one else was willing to say.

Fixed for accuracy.

The majority of 3rd party games run better on 360, and the 360 is cheaper. So there is a redundancy that exists with the PS3 on the market.

The PS3 becomes less redundant when it has more exclusive games, like KZ2, LBP, Resistance 2, etc. etc. etc.

Obviously it's software that makes the PS3 what it is. This is why I agree with Stringer's assertion that the focus for Sony should be on software at this point.

I firmly believe I speak for everyone when I say we could've used another murder-suicide thread before seeing another I-wonder-how-Pachter-keeps-his-job deals.

The intention wasn't to be funny; rather, it was to show that anyone who knows how fucking clueless Pachter is would rather see further evidence that some people are fucking whacked out than another anecdote proving Pachter is a complete tool!

Blu-ray has become mainstream and Xbox Live is struggling to keep alive.

It's backwards day right?
